St James, situated 35 minutes from Cape Town center, was the first resort to be developed by the British in the early 1900’s. Today St James is celebrated for its balmy climate, warmer Cape waters, whale watching and accessibility along the railway line which extends along the scenic coastal route to Simon’s Town.

Villa St James accommodates up to 16 guests in 8 spacious bedrooms with extra long beds and five bathrooms. Each bedroom, unique in character, has sea or mountain views with variable features of private outdoor or indoor balconies and a rabbit warren of inter-leading doors.

The living and leisure zone on the ground floor features an elegant dining room for 22 guests. The décor blends nautical accents with collectable deco throughout the 2 lounges and billiard room along with influences of Africa and traditional Cape Dutch style. Relaxation comes easily with a substantial music and literary collection, an English pub and a secluded courtyard with trellised grapevines.

Why Villa St James chose Cape Peninsula

We fell in love with the character that emanates from an historical building... there seem to be so many stories in the thick walls, stories that seem to spill out of the sash windows and into the fresh sea air.

There is a calmness that comes with age, there is a wisdom and nurturing that comes with time.. just like a good bottle of wine! In fact, we fell in love sitting in front of the fire, drinking a bottle of wine with good friends.

(Summer living is pretty fun too!)

What makes this villa unique

You can spend hours staring at the ocean in front of the Villa... the moods and activity... from birds, to dolphins to whales in season. We watch the weather change, and the sun rise, we watch kayakers and fishermen, walkers, runners, cyclists, trains and more.

The dining room just begs for people to sit around the table with good food, wine and laughter! Made for socialising with great people.

It's perfect for a family reunion or a group... enough space to do your own thing (or hide!) and enough communal space to be with the people you love and having fun things to do.

'Each morning for three glorious weeks at the Villa St James we woke in the sweet silence of our little guest cottage just off the grapevine trellised patio of the main house and crawled reluctantly out from under our crisp Italian linens and down-filled duvet onto the terra cotta floor. First stop of the day: the house kitchen for coffee and fresh baked pastries from a nearby restaurant, Olympia Café, which the first person up each morning would bring, having biked the short distance into the nearby village of Kalk Bay. For the most part, I was too content to leave the house. More active guests ventured outside the estate to kite surf or hike the nature reserve beyond the back garden, jog or play tennis at the seaside courts a short walk down the road. On the rare occasion when I did leave the house, I would wander down to Kalk Bay for an ice cream or to browse its harbour and antique shops. In short we experienced the perfect marriage of luxurious living and local charm. '
