Mammoth Lakes Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

A truly unique location on Mammoth Mountain ! Timber Ridge is the highest location in Mammoth, looking down over Canyon Lodge and the Owens Valley. Ski in and ski out (down) to Chair 8 and Canyon Lodge or to Chair 15 & 24 at Eagle Express where lift tickets are sold and miss the lines at Canyon Lodge. (In the summer these same runs become a world class mountain bike trail). The condo has gorgeous views of the Sherwin Range from the living room and master bedroom. The clubhouse directly across from the condo features 'his and hers' saunas, a large spa and a summertime swimming pool. This small complex is surrounded by the national forest, creating a woodsy, remote atmosphere. Nightlife is down the hill (approximately 2 miles) where there are many excellent restaurants and bars.

Remodeled 'down to the studs' two years ago, the kitchen and bathrooms feature custom cabinetry and stone accents as well as heated travertine floors throughout (except for bedrooms where there is new carpet). Sitting in the living room in front of a roaring fire, the view is of surrounding forest and the Owens Valley below. The kitchen with it's custom cabinetry, new appliances and extensive cookware make it easy to stay in and enjoy a meal at home. The master bedroom invites escape with a flat screen tv, gorgeous view of the Owens Valley from the 4 poster bed and a 3/4 bath featuring a heated floor, custom stone accents and a frameless shower enclosure.

The second bedroom has heated, carpeted floors, mirrored wardrobes and a comfortable extra large chair and ottoman. The double twin trundle bed can be attached to become a king bed. Two large windows make the room light and airy.

The garage is attached with stairway access so there is never a need to unearth your car after a snowstorm. The association owns a snowplow/loader which plows our driveways immediately in the event of a storm.

After a day on the mountain, ski home thru the woods (there are trail markers on Bluejay and Chickadee pointing the way to Timber Ridge). Come home to hot drinks, a crackling fire and beautiful sunset views. Go for a soak and a sauna at the clubhouse across the driveway. Make dinner at home or go to one of the terrific restauants just down the hill.

Area activities include superb cross country skiing (just down Lake Mary Road at the Tamarack Cross Country Ski Center), snowmobiling, dog sledding, sledding and back country snowshoeing. Hot springs soaking is popular year around. Summer fun includes golfing, hiking, fishing, backpacking, mountain biking and horseback riding. We are located directly on the world class mountain bike trail that the winter ski runs become in the summer. There are several outlet shops in town including Ralph Lauren and Bass for the less motivated.

As a result of the mountain being developed the last few years, there are more great restaurants and nightlife all over town and on the mountain. Most of the lifts are high speed and enclosed. There is gondola service to the top and to a mid-mountain lodge where skiers and non-skiers can enjoy excellent food at a beautiful restaurant as well as great service at the less formal cafe.

Our favorites restaurants are Nevados and Tamarack Lodge (I never get tired of walking through the enclosed entry lined to the rafters on either side by firewood.) Tamarack is authentic old style lodge with a huge fireplace, lots of deep sofas and hot drinks. They serve French food and have a good wine list. Nevados is very good California cuisine and equally good drinks. A fun, less expensive restaurant we eat at is Angel's, just down the road. The Stove on Old Mammoth Road is an institution that serves huge breakfasts. Our favorite after ski is the Yodler across from Main Lodge. No amount of will power has kept us from Schaat's Bakery, a mecca of wonderful bread, gorgeous pastries, mountain size sandwiches and soups. There is a Schaat's in Bishop and another on the main road to the condo.

About Diane Valine

My family is crazy about any sport that delivers maximum thrills. We scuba, kayak, kite surf, wind surf, sail and of course, snowboard and ski. We live in Southern California near the beach. There are three of us and lots of relatives, especially in ski season.

Diane Valine purchased this condo in 1998

Why Diane Valine chose Gold Country / High Sierra

We found and bought our condo by accident. An old friend told us she was no longer able to endure the altitude and wanted to sell after thirty years (she was an original owner). We went to Mammoth and found that her condo was ON the ski runs and had a gorgeous view. At that time, Timber Ridge was relatively unknown to all but the locals. We were thrilled with the feeling of remoteness and being surrounded by the forest. My guys love skiing home for lunch and I like staying home drinking morning coffee looking at the great view. I love cross country skiing at Tamarack Ski Center which is right down Lake Mary Road

What makes this condo unique

Real ski in ski out DOWN to two different lifts

A great view

A totally remodeled unit. New kitchen, new bathrooms, heated floors

Surrounded by forest on three sides

Guestbook comments from the owner

A great location for the serious skier. Easy to get to the back bowls and first tracks.

I just came back from Timber Ridge where I spent a week with my husband and three kids. The condo was spacious and comfortable with all the amenities for a family of five. My kids are happiest where there's a good wi-fi connection, so that was another plus! I loved waking up every morning to a gorgeous sunrise, although the sky was a bit hazy the first two days due to wildfires in the neighboring mountains. The condo is only a few minutes away from the center of the town and the shopping area. There are also plenty of restaurants to choose from if cooking isn't your favorite thing. The evening ambiance at the village is always very relaxing and enjoyable. My family and I usually go to a resort by the beach for our summer vacation, but this time we decided to do things differently. There are all kinds of fun summer activities to do in Mammoth Lakes, and we all had a wonderful time. I can't wait to go back home, back to the mountains!

Pool and Views but Hot and Loud

  • 3 of 5

Overall, we had a good stay in Diane's unit. Owner was friendly, helpful, and available when needed. Layout is great for a family with 2 kids - felt "roomy" and comfortable.

Best parts: Clubhouse with pool and spa steps away from unit (we used this daily!), great views from balcony and master bedroom, comfortable kitchen and living room, easy arrival / departure - no need to check in, just walk in and find keys, and leave keys upon departure, good location - close to Village and lakes. Good/Fair price.

Aspects to consider: No street parking available and garage is tiny (had to fold mirrors on SUV when pulling in) with manual garage door. Unit is below another unit and you could literally hear every step guests above took, including toilet flushings, getting into bed, sliding balcony doors, etc. Unfortunately, the guests went to bed a 1am every night and it was challenging because it kept us and our kids awake :-(. There was construction on adjacent units (balcony replacements) 2 of the days we were there so if you're home during day, you'll hear hammering all day. Unit was very hot - even with all windows open in every room, and even with 65 degree nights outside, unit really needs fans/air conditioning (ideally). Heat combined with upstairs noise made sleeping very, very challenging. To bike ride, you need to park car across Village ($60 for 3 days) so that you can take the shuttles to the slopes/lakes and back. The shuttle stops are not close to unit (at all) so while getting to the stop is downhill, there is no way to get back the steep winding streets to get back to the unit on a bike (therefore the parking at the Village is necessary). This was manageable but added to the cost - and not as flexible as being able to bike out of your unit in and out at leisure.

Favorite activities: Free bike shuttle to Horseshoe Lake (from Village) and the gorgeous (cannot miss!) all downhill ride, Paying shuttle for "Downtown" dirt trail in the woods and the slopes (put bikes on ski lift) and ride through the bike park. Great fishing in "valley" - take shuttle from main lodge to Rainbow Falls/Devils' Postpile - great hiking and fishing in the river. Pool/spa at unit after long physical day felt luxurious. Fun nights and days at village - "life size" chess, Starbucks, ping pong, music festivals, shopping, Chocolate factory, Ben & Jerry's ice cream...great burgers and Mexican food . Lake Mary - wonderful paddle boarding and kayaking.

Owner's Response: Our condo has a unique location, we are the highest location on the mountain and approximately 1/2 mile from town. We are also located with VERY easy access to the mountain bike trails that are ski trails during the winter. I'm sorry our guests did not know this. Many of our renters are professional mountain bike riders in Mammoth for summer races. They love the easy access to the trails. The balcony construction is complete so any construction noise is finished. Because of the winters, construction has to be done in the summer. There are no further construction improvements scheduled. We regret that our guests experienced loud neighbors. The unit is a VRBO rental so we cannot guarantee solitude. What we hope guests will do in the event of noisy neighbors is to notify the Timber Ridge managers who live directly across the driveway or call us to intervene . We are very serious about this. Our unit is beautiful and peaceful. We are surrounded by the national forest and have wonderful views - we will do whatever it takes to assure our guests have a great time in our unit. We are commited to providing a wonderful experience for each and every guest. We are so sorry this was not the case for this guest.

Beautiful view but the condo was filthy.

  • 1 of 5

The only positive aspects of the property were the views from the condo and pool deck.

Negatives: Floors were not clean, the stove top was dirty as were the pots/pans. I had to scrub everything before I could even settle in. There were cobwebs everywhere and the windows and screens were dirty. There was a gap in the screen door so we had mosquitos and moths flying in. Many of the towels had dirt on them. I was forever killing spiders and sustained 3 spider bites. The blankets were dirty with food/urine stains. It's a good thing I brought my own pillows because the pillow cases in the master bedroom were stained and appeared not to have been washed. My 65 year old husband had to rearrange the woodpile in the garage so we could get the car in.

Overall it was an exhausting and very disappointing experience.

Owner's Response: Dear Mr. & Mrs. Robertson, I was startled to read your review. We currently have 26 reviews, the overwhelming majority are five star reviews so a one star review is a shock. After each guest, the condo is professionally cleaned. We have used the same cleaning crew for more than 15 years and have NEVER had a complaint. The HOA manager went to the condo to replace or repair the screen mentioned in the review but could not find a problem. I asked him to replace it anyway. Recently, I replaced all linen with 800 thread count sheets and white, goose down comforters - all of which are laundered and aired out after each visit. Each summer, we do a major cleaning, sending curtains, blankets, and comforters to be dry cleaned. The carpets and all upholstered furniture are shampooed. All cupboards are emptied and scrubbed. All plates and utensils are run through the dishwasher. The travertine floors are cleaned and the grout line resealed. I can go on a bit but I think the idea is clear. We are very conscientious about our condo. I happily respond to any complaints or suggestions that will improve our unit. We strive to make the unit as comfortable, attractive and complete as our full time home. I am very sorry we did not live up to your expectations. Diane

Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at Timber Ridge over the New Year. We loved the condo and all the amenities. The beds were comfortable. The views from the master and living room were gorgeous! Two bathrooms were a plus. The kitchen had everything we needed. There was plenty of wood to keep the fire going. We also took advantage of the Jacuzzi in the club house (directly across from the condo). I also loved having a garage. It only took a few minutes to get to town and upon return, I didn't have to spend time looking for a parking space. Finally, Diane was helpful to answer any questions I had. We'll definitely be back!

Great condo!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Diane's condo in early Jan 2016 for four nights and had a great time. The place is clean and well maintained and is truly ski-in, ski-out. That term is over-used and seems to have different meanings to different people. We walked a very short distance (flat) to the end of the road to the woods. Then we put on our skis and skiied through the woods to "Bridges" run which leads to Eagle Chair 15. All four of us did this with no problems, including my kids (ages 9 & 11). The path back takes a different route, but was also very easy to find and navigate and we were able to ski up to the condo a couple doors down, very close. We were lucky in that it was snowing the whole time we were there, so I don't know how it would be in lighter snow conditions.

We used the hot tub every night and had it all to ourselves except one night when another couple was there. We did borrow one of their sleds one day to go sledding, which was lots of fun too! Lots of good sledding spots nearby. We cooked dinner there two nights and ate out the other two nights. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to make our breakfasts & dinners. I would recommend this property to friends or family. My kids said they liked this place better than the Village because of its proximity to the slopes and to the woods/snow.

Just north of Mammoth we found people offering dog sled rides. It was just great, silently gliding thru the forest where no one had been but the dogs and their sled I think kids would really love it.

There is also a sledding park where person and sled is hauled up the hill to sled back down. .
