Chateau Rochette Sleeps 8

Bedrooms 4
Property type castle
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

The Chateau is every bit a real castle.

Chateau Rochette stands majestically looking down across a valley once lorded over by this 12th century Baronnie. The chateau was both witness and party to the Hundred Years War, now a sleeping giant of peace and tranquility.

Chateau Rochette has been meticulously restored with an eye towards preserving her original personality and character. Modern comforts and amenities have been subtly woven into her fabric allowing the original Chateau to remain at center stage. Chateau Rochette is the perfect place for couples, families, and friends to come, relax, adventure and just be. We love Chateau Madame and it is our pleasure to share her with like minded travelers.

Chateau Rochette is central to and minutes away from all the remarkable places and adventures we come to the Dordogne and the Perigord Noir for. Exploring the magnificent landscape and medieval surroundings will transport you to a another century. Chateau Rochette is minutes away from such places as Castelnaud, Beynac – the stronghold of Richard the Lion heart, The ancient town of Sarlat, Domme and a seemingly unending list of places and remarkable experiences.

When you arrive you at Chateau Rochette turn up the long grassy drive and traverse the hillside until you are facing the Chateau, its terrace, and french doors leading into the kitchen. A massive wisteria clings to the Chateau. Great fortune if you are there during its bloom!

Entered through the French doors. Overhead are huge hewn beams as in all the rooms. The kitchen is fully equipped including dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator, electric kettle, electric four burner stove. Passing through a stone passage is the refrigerator, clothes washer, dryer, hand basin, and WC.

Dining Room

From the Kitchen pass to the dining room. A huge fireplace, high beamed ceiling and stone walls the color of Champagne greet you. Light pours in from the facing view of the valley on to the warm chestnut floors.

Stair Hall

From the dining room pass to the stair hall. One of our favorite parts of Chateau Rochette, it ascends to the 2nd and 3rd floor.

Living Room

Pass now to the living room whose chestnut floors, huge fireplace and dimensions nearly duplicate that of the dining room. The furniture is decidedly comfortable as is the atmosphere. It is a place to relax with friends and family after a day of adventure or to just read a good book.

1st Floor Bedroom

Pass out of the living room and up five steps to the 1st floor bedroom. Two twin beds face a window view of the valley.

A stone fireplace stands against the high peaked ceiling. This part of the Chateau was built somewhat later and as a result captured the lower portion of one of the towers which interestingly now lives in this sleeping chamber.

1st Floor Crimson Bathroom

Pass through the 1st floor bedroom into the bathroom. Without any question, this ensuite bathroom is by far the most incongruous part of Chateau Rochette. Created lovingly for a teenage daughter during the 1960s - with a sunken tub! - the walls, the floor, and yes, the ceiling, are all very beautiful very crimson red tiles. Dazzling! Photographs don’t do it justice.

Tower Room

Pass again through the 1st floor bedroom and through another door, and you will find a small room with a spiral stairway leading up into the tower and tower bedroom. Certainly a great place to be banished to, it has a single bed and the best view at Chateau Rochette . Through its own door, the tower room shares the crimson bathroom with the 1st floor bedroom.

Master Bedroom 1 - second floor

Opposite the bed and its hangings a massive fireplace is centered. The room is large and nearly duplicates the size of the dining room below. Adjoining it and also large is the master bathroom. With tub, free standing shower, bidet, toilet and sink. A casement window looks out over the distant hills and valley.

Master Bedroom 2 - second floor

A beautifully carved stone fireplace stands adjacent to the bed with its warm red bed hangings. From there you will look out the tall windows across to the hills on the other side of the valley. The bathroom is located in the Watch Tower. The windows, once used by lookouts, were designed for these commanding views.

Included are a tub/shower, toilet, and sink.

3rd Floor

The 3rd floor is currently not part of the rental space.

About Oliver's Travels - France

Your time off is precious. So when you go away, why not make an occasion of it and book somewhere a bit… different?

At Oliver’s Travels we don’t do ordinary. But if you’re looking to rent somewhere quirky, unique and bursting with more character than a bottle of ’59 Lafite Rothschild, we’ve got some stunning luxury villas for you to choose from.

Fancy a romantic weekend for two in a lighthouse, a week away in a converted windmill, or a fortnight relaxing with friends in the grounds of a French chateau?

We’ve got them all here at Oliver’s Travels. Each one of our properties is handpicked by our team to guarantee you a truly memorable luxury villa holiday. By booking direct with the owner from around 40 per person per night, you can experience luxury without burning a hole in your pocket.

Where did it all start?

In 2003, my best mate Ravi and I spent a week at Chateau de Cardou in the Dordogne with a group of our closest friends. It was one of those holidays you never forget. The chateau was stunning, the wine was flowing and the weather was pretty much perfect. Best of all, we had the whole place to ourselves.

As it turns out, that holiday was the start of something pretty special. Before we’d even got back to England, Ravi and I had come up with the basic idea for our first business, Simply Chateau: a website where people could find and book exclusive, luxury villas without having to shell out a fortune.

Why Oliver's Travels - France chose Perigord Noir

Where are we today?

We’ve grown a bit since then. We’ve now got a team of people who love travelling just as much as we do. Between us, we’ve handpicked every one of the properties you’ll find on the site.

Our emphasis is still on quirky, lavish, one-of-a-kind places to stay, but we now offer villas, castles, stately homes, beach huts and cottages, as well as chateaux – not just in France, but across Europe and the Caribbean.

You may have noticed weve changed our name too. Ravi took a bit of persuading, but in the end we agreed on Oliver’s Travels!

What makes this castle unique

Why choose ordinary?

So whether you want to treat the family, get together with friends or spend a romantic weekend somewhere special, why choose ordinary when you can have exceptional?

At Olivers Travels, we guarantee you a holiday to remember at a price you won’t regret.

If you’re looking for a bit of inspiration, why not take a look at our latest recommendations, where you’ll find a list of our own favourite places to stay? Our concierge service can help personalize your trip down to the smallest detail, or if you're raring to go you can just jump in and start browsing.

Happy travelling!
