Enchanting Catskills Mountain Lake House

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

This enchanting Catskill Mountain lake front house is a stones throw from the lake and is a 'home away from home'. Many windows and glass doors allow for an 'inside outside' experience with a comfortable deck overlooking the lake. Take a canoe ride or walk on the iced lake January through early March. Enjoy the peace and quiet of a 50 acre lake.

The house itself is on a small road; there is a neighboring house on one side separated by trees and foliage, with forest and lake on the other three sides. There are two bedrooms and one bath. A spiral staircase leads to the upstairs bedroom with a queensize bed, futon sleep sofa and balcony. One bedroom is downstairs with a queensize bed and you awaken looking at the lake. The living room has cathedral ceiling, glass exposures to the lakeside. There is a fully furnished kitchen. Wood-burning stove, in addition to the heating system, makes it very cozy on chilly days. There is original artwork, rugs, etc. which adds to the charm of our house. All cotton linens, with flannel for cooler weather and down comforters.

Many all season activities are close by, some within minutes, others within a 30 to 45 minute drive. For example, hanggliding, gliding, hiking, rockclimbing, The ski resorts of Hunter, Windham and Belleayre are about an hour north. A smaller ski resort, Holiday Mountain (in Monticello) is 35 to 40 minutes drive.

Come and rejuvenate in a 'retreat' from worldly cares! Roam the country-side or bring books and good food and observe the lake with all it's many moods. Just recline on a sofa and look out. Down the 'hill' (15 minutes) in the small village of Ellenville, you'll find grocery stores and good restaurants. There are also pizza, deli and diners available. We are also so fortunate to have a wonderful theatre, summer stock but with some activites most of the year !

Two hours from New York City. Forty-five minutes from Kingston, New Paltz, Woodstock, Middletown, Monticello.

About Carroll Chisholm

New York City residents who found lakeside property to replenish on weekends during our lives there. And, now, we feel so fortunate to be here full-time and live next door to the rental property.

Carroll Chisholm purchased this house in 1988

Why Carroll Chisholm chose Catskills

My husband and I are originally from the South and having grown up on water, we wanted a property with water !

What makes this house unique

It's such fun to watch for the various wildlife - ducks, canada geese, herons, turkeys, turtles, frogs, deer, fox, raccoons, skunks... Each season brings Bliss ! The Spring is a miracle of growth after the snows&ice of winter, summer is oh so wonderfully warm and sometimes even hot ! , the Fall is spectacular with all manner of color of leaves, etc. and the winter is 'Terrible Beauty' ... the snows and ice come and you watch it all happen and stoke the wood burning stove/ cook favorite foods and curl up being oh so cozy. But ... don't get me started about the year-round beauty !

Guestbook comments from the owner

House looks great. The new paint makes it sparkle. Thanks for all.

The lake vacation I have dreamed about!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time! Carrol was very warm and friendly. Somehow the peace and tranquility of this lake is hard to translate in the photos. There are no motorized vehicles and every now and then you would see a row boat or canoe gliding by, lily pads with spectacular flowers, a beaver that followed us around, comfortable chairs on the small dock, fireflies at night! We went swimming three times, two off of the dock and once at the beach you can kayak to. There are only a few houses round the lake. My daughter loved it!

Secluded, comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Ideal for what we were looking for. Quiet, secluded, comfortable. The owners (next door I believe) left us alone and we appreciated the privacy. We brought all our own food, and the kitchen had all the basics we needed to cook. The lake is gorgeous especially when we pulled the canoes into the water -- water lilies, sandy beach, beaver dams. The fire pit (with plenty of wood and starter) and lawn chairs was a relaxing spot. The house overall was ample room for the two of us. WiFi worked fine, though I personally tried to stay unplugged. Thank you for a lovely getaway.

A comfortable home in serene, natural beauty

  • 5 of 5

It is lovely to look out across a small lake populated with water lilies, geese and beavers, to natural forest on the other side. There is a feeling of spaciousness and calm. The home is well-equipped, with everything one could require. A rowboat was available to go down the lake to admire the architecture of the beaver lodge. There are a few other properties on the lake but they are well-spaced. The cottage is also quite spacious, with lots of windows.

This house/property was perfect for our weekend getaway. It had everything that we needed, and we thoroughly enjoyed the environment. We canoed on the lake, swam in the beach area on the other side of the lake, and enjoyed evening meals on the deck. Our children loved having a little land to get away from us, and they especially enjoyed hanging out on the dock. Carroll was very responsive, helpful, and easy to work with.

Cozy, Comfortable and Serene

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time relaxing and enjoying the amenities of the house and property. There were a lot of extra, simple touches like plenty of board games that made the trip extra easy and fun for the family. Carroll was available as needed (but otherwise doesn't interfere) :)

The location is also great! We did the Ice Caves that are very close and we were blown away!
