This enchanting Catskill Mountain lake front house which is a stones throw from the lake is a 'home away from home'. Many windows and glass doors allow for an 'inside outside' experience with a comfortable deck overlooking the lake. Take a canoe ride or walk on the iced lake January through early March. Enjoy the peace and quiet of a 50 acre lake.
The house itself is on a small road; there is a neighboring house on one side separated by trees and foliage, with forest and lake on the other three sides. There are two bedrooms and one bath. A spiral staircase leads to the upstairs bedroom with a queensize bed, skylights, futon sleep sofa and balcony. One bedroom is downstairs with a queensize bed and you awaken looking at the lake. The living room has cathedral ceiling, glass exposures to the lakeside with a fully furnished kitchen. Wood-burning stove, in addition to the heating system, makes it very cozy on chilly days. There is original artwork, rugs, etc. which adds to the charm of our house. All cotton linens, with flannel for cooler weather and down comforters.
Many all season activities are close by, some within minutes, others within a 30 to 45 minute drive. For example, hanggliding, gliding, hiking, rockclimbing, The ski resorts of Hunter, Windham and Belleayre are about an hour north. A smaller ski resort, Holiday Mountain (in Monticello) is 35 to 40 minutes drive.
Come and rejuvenate in a 'retreat' from worldly cares! Roam the country-side or bring books and good food and observe the lake with all it's many moods. Just recline on a sofa and look out. Down the 'hill' (15 minutes) in the small village of Ellenville, you'll find grocery stores and good restaurants. There are also pizza, deli and diners available. We are also so fortunate to have a wonderful theatre, summer stock but with some activites most of the year !

New York City residents who found lakeside property to replenish on weekends during our lives there. And, now, we feel so fortunate to be here full-time and live next door to the rental property.
Carroll Chisholm purchased this house in 1988
My husband and I are originally from the South and having grown up on water, we wanted a property with water !
It's such fun to watch for the various wildlife - ducks, canada geese, herons, turkeys, turtles, frogs, deer, fox, raccoons, skunks... Each season brings Bliss ! The Spring is a miracle of growth after the snows&ice of winter, summer is oh so wonderfully warm and sometimes even hot ! , the Fall is spectacular with all manner of color of leaves, etc. and the winter is 'Terrible Beauty' ... the snows and ice come and you watch it all happen and stoke the wood burning stove/ cook favorite foods and curl up being oh so cozy. But ... don't get me started about the year-round beauty !
This is a very relaxing and beautiful location for a getaway. Carroll did an excellent job of providing tons of information about the surrounding area, as well as providing a very nice and cozy home on the lake. We would definitely consider returning for a future stay.
First off I wanted to thank Carroll for being such a WONDERFUL down to earth person! Secondly we didn't want to leave our stay was to short.
The house was warm and inviting everything you need to enjoy yourself. We walked, fished, row boated and drank in the suns warm rays and we felt rejuvenated with in hours of arriving here.
The blue sky goes on forever and I got lost in the puffy white clouds and light breeze.
Our pup enjoyed romping around the tremendous back yard it was awesome that Carroll let us bring him he is so much apart of our family and he enjoyed himself completely.
We loved the deck over looking the beautiful lake, the Lilies looked like the Water-Lily pond at Monet's home in Giverny what a incredible site!
We grilled ate and drank till we were full then the sounds of evening birds crickets and frogs lulled us to sleep at the end of our day it was so soothing.
We found the beds and pillows to be comfy and cozy although all we needed was a sheet to sleep with it was quite warm a day or two, but there are tons of fans to cool you off during the day and it is quite cool at night very comfortable.
There's much more I could say about this piece of tranquility, as it left quite a impression on us that we will keep close and plan to visit again when we can steal some time away from our hustle and bustle world. Thank you again Carroll !
~ This house is exactly as described. It's comfortable, welcoming, and loaded with 'green' products.
~ Carroll was prompt, friendly, and very accommodating in all of her correspondence.
My husband and I spent our first day kayaking and relaxing on the deck. The pleasant setting, chattering birds, movement of the water, comfy chairs and blue sky created the serene atmosphere that we were seeking. Although rain spoiled our plans for hiking and more kayaking, we were able to drive around a bit and checked out Sam's Point (interesting place!).
Overall, it was exactly what we hoped for and we definitely recommend staying here.
My husband and I stayed here in September 2014 with our two small dogs. We loved it. The house was clean and cozy. We relaxed on the deck, went on hikes, and used the wood-burning stove at night. Would go back again.
This review is long overdue. I stayed at this property for a long weekend last September 2013 with my boyfriend and my dog (Ralfie). The house is exactly as pictured and described. We loved the bedroom in the loft with all the light coming in. It was kind of tricky driving up there at night (we came from the city) with all the winding roads and very limited lights, but once daylight comes around and you start driving around town, you get the hang of all the turns. The house has almost everything you can think of. We didn't use the kitchen here since we were only here for the weekend and the town has some nice restaurants (try Aroma Thyme). This past August we stayed at Carol's other house on the property and we cooked in that one. The best part of this property is the access to the lake and use of the kayaks. We all loved it, including the pup. Carol is very friendly and was responsive with communications leading up to the visit and while up there. If you're as lucky as we were to have gorgeous weather during the fall, you can take some amazing photos with vibrant fall foliage. We loved it so much we came back again this year, and look forward to making this a recurring trip. Thanks Carol!
My wife and I celebrated our one year anniversary here. We sought solitude, a comfortable living space and a spot for our dog to get her ya-yas out. We spent early mornings sitting by the wood stove drinking coffee, reading and watching the sun inject color into the view of the surrounding fall foliage. Carrol and John keep a very warm and welcoming homey place and had taken the time to stash plenty of fire wood and kindling in the front porch making it easy to get a fire going. We really enjoyed ourselves in this little cottage.
