Bella Vista, is true to it's name. A mountain retreat with spectacular views of picturesque Caribbean Sea & British Virgin Islands, this home allows for lots of privacy & sliding doors that open onto their own deck and screen room. You can enjoy the breeze as well as the views, which extend from Jost Van Dyke across Tortola & out to Virgin Gorda. From the parking area of this St. John vacation rental, follow the winding steps through beautifully terraced gardens to access the home. From the entry, step in to this quaint islnad home with an Eat-in kitchen, Queen Beds and baths with showers and double vanities.

NOTE: This home is managed by its caretaker Shannon who resides in the caretakers apartment on the lower level, with separate entrance. You will rarely see Shannon, but she is readily available to address your needs.

Luxurious decorating and wonderful art have been combined with beautiful tile floors to create a quaint, yet comfortable interior in this very special island home.

A full kitchen, has a full stove, microwave, and refrigerator and coffee maker. Beach chairs, beach towels, coolers and an umbrella are available.

There are queen beds and private full baths and both the bedrooms and kitchen have ceiling fans, or leave the sliding doors open and enjoy the tropical breezes.

The Bella Vista is wonderful for a secluded honeymoon, and is equally comfortable for a couples or a family.

This St. John rental is five miles (20 minutes) from Cruz Bay on Centerline Road and then one and a half miles on the paved Bordeaux Mountain Road. The last .25 mile to Bella Vista is unpaved (4WD is A MUST), and is an adventurous drive. It is a six minute drive to the North Shore Beaches; three minutes to the Reef Bay Trail; seven minutes to Coral Bay; From the front door, you can hike the Bordeaux Mountain Trail to Lameshur Beach in one hour.

St. John is reached from St. Thomas via a twenty min. ferry ride. St. Thomas is primarily serviced by Delta, American, US Air and United from the states.

Hi! We're Mark and Annie, the owners of Bella Vista. We live in New Jersey most of the year with our Island dog Bella and visit St. John in the winter to escape the cold and the snow. We've owned Bella Vista since 2003 and throughout the years have added our personal touches to make this our "Home away" from home. We're happy to share it with you and we hope you enjoy your stay!

We have rented Bella Vista for a week on 4 separate occasions dating back to 2004. It’s an open, roomy, well-maintained lovely home with rich wood details. It’s comfortably furnished and has a lovely spacious kitchen with a large refrigerator. A gas grill is close by on a porch. The furniture of the main living room is generous in size and there is a large TV with a full selection of programming. As well, there is a very reliable high-speed Wi-Fi internet connection throughout the home.

The bedrooms are each well appointed with custom detailing and very comfortable beds. The linens and towels are all fresh and new and the bathrooms’ clean, modern and spacious.

The biggest and best feature of this fantastic home is its location. Spectacular panoramic views of eastern St. John and the BVI’s will not fail to impress you. The morning and evening skies are something to behold! The position of the home high in the hills allows for wonderful trade winds. These breezes keep the home from overheating and the bugs to a minimum. A multitude of beautiful birds are close at hand and there are frequently hummingbirds dashing about.

I have visited St. John 12 times since 1992 and have stayed at Bella Vista 4 times. It offers a wonderful setting, great comfort and is a fantastic value. I have found the owners to be very fair in their dealings and they have always more than lived up to their commitments. I hope to stay at Bella Vista many more times in the years to come.

Guests are met at the St. John ferry by our Greeter and taken to their rental car, a quick stop at the Food market, then guided up to the property. Our home has ceiling fans in the kitchen and bedroom room, wireless internet access, Full Kitchen with cooking utensils, Blender, Drip Coffee Maker, Toaster, Refrigerator, Linens, Beach Chairs, Coolers and Beach Towels. No Smoking in or near the house please. NOTE: This home is managed by its caretaker Shannon who resides in the caretaker apartment on the lower level, with separate entrance. What can I say. Our trip was nothing less then spectacular. The house was beautifully done, incredibly comfortable and VERY private. The views are absolutely amazing. My 6th trip to St. John and by far my favorite. This is the only way to do St. John.

Wonderful vacation spot

We loved our stay at Bella Vista. Yep, you'll need the four-wheel drive rental; the last quarter mile is pretty bumpy, but the end of the road is a peaceful, lovely spot. The apartment is charmingly decorated with a full kitchen, screened living area, comfy bedroom, and nice bathroom. It's very quiet; we could hardly believe that four people and a dog were above. We rarely heard a sound from upstairs. The place is very solidly built. Everything that we needed for our beach excursions was in a handy closet. Mark and Annie provided a notebook with suggestions for local restaurants, great hikes, and beautiful snorkeling spots. We went to beaches all over the island but mostly stayed on the Coral Bay side which had all the restaurants we needed and much quieter beaches. We found that we were often the only ones on the beach or there were only a handful of other people. It was really perfect for us because we prefer quieter places with lots of nature and off the beaten path. If you did want more activity, Cruz Bay was about 20 minutes away. It just wasn't our style. We would go back in a heart beat and are already dreaming about next year. My favorite restaurant was Miss Lucy's for the food and the view. My husband's was Aqua Bistro for the food. We ate at both restaurants several times. Our favorite snorkeling spot was the north side of Haulover, which is not one of the beaches listed in the book. Nonetheless, within ten feet of the shore you felt like you were in a tropical aquarium and we saw more lavender fans, brain corals, and even rays and turtles there. We also thought the beach next to Yowzi Point was gorgeous, although the snorkeling wasn't as great as promised there. Probably just an off day. Book your trip. You won't regret it.

Remote and beautiful

If you're interested in staying off the beaten track and up in the mountain, stay here. Mark and Annie are absolutely delightful. The studio is lovely with a giant deck looking out over the mountain and water. The road to the house is adventurous but once you get the hang of it, becomes second nature. They provide beach towels and beach chairs which we used daily. Mark and Annie themselves are a wealth of information about both St. John and neighboring islands (ask Annie about visiting Jost!). After talking to them for 5 minutes, we were trying to figure out how to pack up our things and move to St. John.

A Superb Studio!

My experience with the Bella Vista Studio was nothing short of splendid. The booking process was seamless, arrival to the island a breeze, the hosts- Mark & Annie-ensured a pleasant and informative welcome to the island, and the accommodations were just as described. A picture perfect spot, surrounded by sounds of nature, filled with the comforts of home. Newly remodeled, well appointed, with an open air feel - ideal for a single traveler or couple looking for a private getaway. If not tempted by the pristine beaches and great area restaurants- I may not not have ventured beyond the property limits. Centrally located between Cruz & Coral Bay, this property is ideal for those looking for a peaceful and serene escape, with all the necessary amenities. Oh, and if you're lucky, sweet Bella the dog may pop by for a visit or accompany you on a hike just outside your door! Thanks again, Mark & Annie!

Peaceful Retreat with Breathtaking Views

Hi Mark and Annie,

To say that we enjoyed 9 blissful days at Bella Vista would be an understatement. From the moment you met us at the ferry to the day we left, everything was perfect. Your home was lovely with every amenity one could want or need and is exactly as described. The beds were very comfortable and it was a treat to awake each morning and look out over the decks to Coral Bay and the BVI. Also, having access to WIFI was a plus. A 4 wheel drive vehicle is a must but well worth the ride up Bordeaux Mountain to your haven in the sky. We really enjoyed staying on the Coral Bay side of St. John; much quieter than Cruz Bay, but only a 15 minute drive to the ferry and western end of the island. Our favorite beach was Francis Bay and we explored them all. We used the cooler and beach chairs you provided every day, eliminating the need to rent these items. For restaurants, we really enjoyed Aqua Bistro, Shipwreck Landing and Skinny Legs, all in Coral Bay and the Lime Inn in Cruz Bay. We also took the Bad Kitty catamaran to BVI and visited The Baths in Virgin Gorda, snorkeling in the caves, lunch at Cooper Island, then on to Jost Van Dyke and a visit to the Soggy Dollar. A great day trip. You are a delightful couple, very attentive to your guests and seem to have thought of everything to make one's stay so comfortable and relaxing. Thanks so much for the wine, we really enjoyed it. Because of our truly wonderful stay at Bella Vista, we will not be crossing St. John off the "bucket list" anytime soon. Looking forward to seeing you again.
