Glorious view with quick access to the beach!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved our stay here. The house is nicely furnished, comfortable and clean. Tom was responsive and easy to communicate with. We would most certainly stay here again. Beautiful place. And the set up is great for preteen/teenagers. The lower level has Xbox etc and bathroom so we all had our own space to relax. 😉 Hopefully we can return again next summer!

The perfect place for a quiet weekend

  • 5 of 5

The house is not pretentious; it is exactly as advertised and not only met all expectations, but surpassed most of them.

The house is obviously meant as a family retreat, and so don't expect resort-style finishes. It is a solid, well-placed, and comfortable home with all of the amenities one should need for a quiet weekend or quiet week.

The house is a three-story build on the side of a hill overlooking the beach at Otter Rock. Because of the stairs and the beach access, this is not a good fit for people with ambulatory concerns. But other than that, it should be great for all.

It sleeps 6 and has two full bathrooms. It has one deck off of the third floor and another build to the side of the house. The house also has a lot of amenities, including including a oven/stove, dishwasher, microwave, washer, dryer, two TVs with cable (ready for Netflix/Hulu/Amazon) and WiFi. There are even a couple of older game consoles and a small section of games and dvds available.

The upstairs bathroom has a full tub/shower, and the lower bathroom has a jetted tub.

The host obviously takes pride with the property, taking time to keep the property up and decorating it appropriately. The furniture is solid and clean. The carpeting looked brand new. The bedsheets were exceptionally soft, enough that I feel like mentioning it here. I wish I had thought to check the brand. (Nice touch).

The beach below the house is accessible with a short walk and a couple of big steps. The Devils Punch Bowl is about a 12 minute walk, or can be driven. The cabin is between Depoe Bay and Newport, both towns that are worth exploring.

The gravel driveway has been mentioned in other reviews, and while I understand the issue for someone who has not driven on I unpaved roads, the driveway is fine, safe, and should not be concern. But as the owner has stated, it likely is not recommended for a trailer or an RV.

This house was a wonderful Part of our weekend. Thanks for the rental. If we are back in the area, we would definitely stay here again.

fantastic

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Tom for the opportunity to stay here. We loved every part of the experience! this place is so private and quiet it was just wonderful. We watched whales feeding with their young, surfers, a hike to the north side of devils punchbowl to explore it at low tide and the last day a seal swam by the house just a few feet from the shore. We saw bald eagles, some other kind of eagle or hawk and many small birds. The walk to the beach through the forest past a waterfall was too cool and there was hardly anyone on the beach when you get there. This place is the best we have ever stayed in and would love to come back.

Whales from the windows

  • 5 of 5

This house worked great for our family of 5. The off the beaten path location is quiet and there is a trail down to the beach. Amazing beach and ocean views from every level. We spotted whales feeding just off of the coast while sitting in the living room. We took a Whale Watching tour from Depoe Bay and the boat took us to see the same whales we could see from the house as there is apparently a shallow reef where the whales like to feed. The beach in front of the path is quite expansive and beautiful - lots of exploring to be had. I was quite shocked to witness how cool the weather and waters are on the Oregon coast. The house itself is a little dated but perfectly cozy with new carpet and furniture and beach decor. We never met the owner but he made himself available if we needed anything. I would recommend this home!

Peace, privacy, and view!

  • 5 of 5

We spent three nights at Tom's Otter Rock haven. The only thing wrong with our stay was that it wasn't longer. The house is tastefully furnished with everything we needed to feel at home, and is sparkling clean. The view is incredible, and having the living space upstairs made us feel like we were living in an elegant tree house. Bedrooms are downstairs and very comfortable. Going to sleep at night with windows open and the sound of the waves below was heaven. The washer and dryer were a great convenience, as we'd been on the road for over a week when we arrived. We loved the location, too, an easy drive to Newport, Yaquina Bay State Recreation Site (a very worthwhile visit with the lighthouse, tidepools, and a colony of harbor seals), Depoe Bay and Lincoln City. Tom was easy to communicate with and very responsive. Next time we pass that way, his house will be at the top of our list for a longer stay.
