Guestbook comments: Beautiful, cozy & comfortable home away from home!

Thank you! Our group of 12 fit so comfortably in the BEAUTIFUL Tall Spruce House! The kids were delighted to have an instant sledding hill & the adults felt relaxed among the many cozy rooms. The hot tub was a hit as several of us chilled out in it before retreating to our slumber spots! Thank you for such an awesome family vacation!

Perfect place for large groups

  • 5 of 5

Wanted to express our great appreciation for the wonderful accommodations provided by Tall Spruce House during our stay December 31, 2012 - January 5, 2013. All 22 members of our immediate family - arriving from four different states - descended on a Monday and stayed through Saturday. Our large group of children had a ball sledding down the gentle slope in the snow-covered front yard. Cousins got to know one another, our children caught up on all the latest news, and we all shared fun times in this large, spacious house! It is clean and neat. We had all the necessities available to us in the various bedrooms and bathrooms. As family members took turns preparing meals for our large group, we found that we were well supplied with dishes, pots and pans, spices, appliances - everything we needed was at our fingertips.

Lisa is conscientious in providing for her guests. She has suggested interesting things to do in Durango. She met us as we arrived, told us to call her if we needed anything, and even left us some cookies and a tin of gourmet nuts along with a few instructions on the kitchen table. We would highly recommend the Tall Spruce House as a very special place for you and your family to spend quality time.

Fantastic Youth Ski Trip

  • 5 of 5

24 of us stayed here on our Spring Break Youth Group Ski Trip. The house was wonderful and the kids enjoyed having the room and ability to spend time together instead of in hotel rooms where we are always separated. The kitchen was well equipped and we were able to set up enough tables to share our meals together. The living room was big enough for all of us to gather at night so we could have a worship service. We loved the Tall Spruce house and would love to come back and use it again. The slopes at Purgatory were only 15 miles away and very easy to access. Definitely a great stop. Thank you Lisa for always checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed. It was a great trip and one the youth will not forget. Rev. Heather Reed First Christian Church

Comfortable stay outside Durango

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of multiple families with kids staying at the Tall Spruce House over President's Day weekend. The Tall Spruce house was a great size for us, especially with the bunk bedroom upstairs for the kids. The kitchen and dining rooms were fully stocked and sufficient in size. Everything we used was in good working order including the hot-tub.

Lisa was great to work with. She contacted us before, during, and after our reservation to make sure everything was working out. She responded to emails quite quickly.

Overall, we loved our stay there and would recommend it to others!

Great Experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a ski weekend and everyone was excited from the minute we walked in. The house is only about 20 from the mountain and less than 10 minutes from Durango. The layout is great, the rooms are great, and everyone had a fantastic time. Thanks for everything, Lisa!

The house was amazing and really suited the needs of our family.

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice in all aspects. The kitchen was great to cook meals in after a long day skiing and plenty of room for everyone to get together and talk about the day. The pictures of the house on the website was the deciding factor in my decision to rent the house and the pictures were very accurate and I felt like I knew the rooms of the house before we even got there! The owner had provided a note book with instructions and had place cards around the house to give additional information to help us enjoy our stay. She even called me to welcome us and let me know she had replaced a blind on the door. I had informed her that we would be arriving later in the evening and when we arrived the lights were on in the house so we did not have to try and find our way around in the dark. I could go on and on about this property and the owner but to sum it up if you are going to Durango, Colorado and need a house for a large group, (we had 15) then you could not find a better place to stay! We enjoyed some of the best skiing and shopping in and around Durango. We all agreed that the next time we come to Durango we will be staying here again. So don't pass this house up to stay at!

Good stay overall.

  • 4 of 5

We had total of 15 people , 9 adults & 6 kids ages 8-16. The house was plenty big for this group. The house was clean & furnished ok. Not luxurious but comfortable. The house could use some updating & new sheets & blankets for some beds. The dishwasher in kitchen didn't work well at all. We didn't let her know till New Year's Eve. Then no one able to come. The owner did give us a $25 credit back for that. But washing all dishes by hand made that side of house not have hot water for showers in the evening so after we figured that out we had people get showers before dishes. It would have been nice if kids could have played on ping pong table but it's in garage which was really cold! Overall we were satisfied with house . Some didn't like that it was 15-20 mins. to ski area. But it was centrally located between town & ski resort.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review & suggestions, Edye. We strive to keep everything updated at Tall Spruce House, adding to our set of linens monthly and keeping a new backup supply on hand, immediately replacing any that show signs of wear. And thank you for explaining that it was the bedding for the extra beds (roll-aways/futon) that needed some attention. We recently bought new blankets for the extra beds and left the others there to have a few extra, but I will go ahead & remove them, and the fitted sheet that showed some wear by a corner. I will also make sure my housekeepers know. Thank you again for bringing it to my attention. I’m sorry the dishwasher stopped working well on the holiday. When the repairman came Monday, we decided to buy a new one. I’m also sorry some of you had to take early showers. We have two large hot water heaters & there’s normally plenty of hot water. I hope the extra refund helped with any inconvenience. Ping pong may be more of a warm-weather activity but we do try to keep the home well-stocked for all seasons and all ages, with the hot tub & sleds for outdoor fun, and a variety for indoors too (games, movies, toys, video games, massage table, piano, etc.). I hope it’s clear that it is 15-20 minutes to skiing, and I also hope that the families enjoy being ¼ mile from Trimble Hot Springs Spa and 10 minutes from downtown Durango, so they can shop or go out to dinner and have a short drive to town and back “home” again. I’m delighted that you found Tall Spruce House clean, comfortable & large enough for your family to gather & enjoy your stay together. Thank you again!
