If anyone is looking for the comforts of home while on vacation, this home has it to the extreme! I could only wish this was my real home and live here year round. The house is absolutely beautiful inside and out. We arrived and the place was all cleaned for us, all we had to do was bring our clothes and food. They owners supply everything you could possibly imagine (even a coffee grinder). All the comforts of home, so DON"T bring a thing other than what I mentioned! The house is situated on this beautiful river where everyday a huge steam boat travels through. You feel like you could reach out and touch it from the dock. The dock is just marvelous to sit on under the attached umbrella, and to boat watch as many boats travel up and down the river which connects two major lakes in either direction. Sebago Lake (2nd biggest lake in Maine) to your right, Long Lake (very big) to your left. You can fish off the dock (need license though), go cayaking with the two person cayak they have on their property (plently of different size life jackets in the cellar), there's 3 grills like a camp site at the end of the property right by the water with a fire pit and wood provided too! It's the total package, water you can swim in, dock to sit on, grills to cook on, chairs and picnic tables, firepit for smores at night, and then instead of the tent for sleep, a luxurous home to sleep in!! If anyone is interested in a relaxing clean place to stay, this is it......but if anyone is looking for excitement and on the go activities, this place has it too. It's located 5 minutes from downtown, (the causway) where you can rent jetskiis, take a seaplane ride, arcades, small rides for toddlers, mini golf, restaurants, boat rentals, shops, steam boat ride that goes past the house, or just plain people watching on the benches right on the lake. This vacation will go down as one of our best vacations. Thanks to the wonderful homeowners for opening up their beautiful home. I don't know if I could do that if I had a house like that.....I'd want it all to myself. We have booked next year already!
If you are looking for a great, quiet place, this is it! Upon our arrival, the owner (Bob) was there to greet us and gave us a tour of the property. There were nearly daily emails from his wife (Maryellen) ensuring things were going okay. I guarantee any issues that may arise will be addressed immediately by these owners.
As to the house, it was better than advertised. Our group was two families for a total of 8 and this home easily accomodated us. The big plus was 3 bathrooms; an absolute necessity with 8 people. Another plus is Wi-Fi. Some of us just can't stay off the computer! The entire property was clean and well-maintained. We rented a pontoon boat for 3 days and the dock easily accommodated it. There are a couple of nearby marina's to rent from.
We were fortunate enough to photograph two bald eagles in the trees behind the house as they were looking for breakfast. Not sure what their breakfast of choice was, but some other bird had an untimely ending for warning the others about them! Felt like I was watching Wild Kingdom back in the '70's!
Being on one of the three accessible lakes may be a sound like a better option, but this place is definitely worth it as an alternative and you can't beat the price for the amount of house and personal service you get.
I really don't understand the poor rating given by one of the renter's...there is probably no pleasing her anyway! Her ex-husband must have loved living with her!!
We planned a vacation with my husband, 3 children and in-laws. Per the contract, it says not to arrive prior to 3 pm. We arrived at 3:30 to find the cleaning people still there. They did not leave until approximately 4:15. They explained that the last tenants left the property a mess and it was taking extra time cleaning. We were willing to let this go due the fact that the house was beautiful and my children and in-laws loved it there. Per the contract, it stated that there would be wash clothes and hand towels. We could not find them in any of the 3 bathrooms. We e-mailed the owners on Tuesday, to find out where they may be - we never got a reponse back. We followed the instructions based on the contract and put all the clean dishes away and put the towels and sheets where they should be. We paid our security deposit up front when making the reservation. This is returnable upon inspection of the property. Approximately 1 month after our stay we received a nasty e-mail from the owner saying that we would only be getting half of the deposit back due to the condition of the house. There were scuff marks behind a rocking chair, the floors were unswept, and the grill was "deplorable" and that extra help had to be hired. This was shocking to my family. Nobody went behind the rocking chair and my 65-year-old mother in-law was the only one who sat in it. My children are 12, 10, and 7 and spent most of their time on the 2 couches. I believe this may be some sort of a scam with the deposit. How come when we got there the previous renters supposedly did the same thing? Maybe the property was not up to par for even us to rent. It was clean but not immaculate. We didn't even use the grill!!!! We had a great time and would have considered this property again until we received the e-mail regarding this almost 30 days after our stay. I have since e-mailed the owners twice and have not received a response. Considering that we couldn't get into the place until an hour and 15 minutes after the contract stated and there were not hand towels or wash clothes we believe the entire security deposit should be returned. We are very disapponted. I would be wary from renting this property.
This place was a great find...the set-up with two master bedrooms was convenient for our extended family to reunite...plenty of room to gather inside and out...especially down by the river and dock...
the bedrooms had huge closets, all the linens, towels and supplies you could need...the kitchen had every thing for dining in and the outdoor grills allowed for awesome barbequeing....
Great location with easy access to many attractions in the area...the river entertained the kids every day...They even could walk to the Songo Lock and help with the opening for the passing boats....
We wished we could have stayed all summer!...Next time we hope to bring our own boat...
My family wanted to go to Maine to spend Christmas with my mom and my side of the family. We decided to rent a house because of the kids. To be stuck in a hotel for 9 days would have been hard on them and hard on our nerves. This house was perfect. It had plenty of space for the 5 people that we had, and it had a great yard for the kids to play outside and get their energy out. The layout is great with two master bedrooms - especially since my brother joined us on our trip. The master bathrooms were gorgeous and large with amazing garden tubs which were nice for a hot bath after getting in from the snow. The kitchen was well equipped and we had a great Christmas dinner there. The view was incredible - even in the winter. The house is right on the river and is somewhat secluded but still close to everything. I am originally from the area and staying here made me feel right at home again. I highly recommend this home because it has all of the essentials plus extras - especially if you have children. They can go outside and play and you don't have to worry as you do if they want to roam around a hotel. The area is quite beautiful and peaceful. It is a relaxing atmosphere inside and out. The house is located in an area that offers a lot of stuff to do. In the winter, there is skiing, snowmobiling, snowtubing, and many other things. Since it was the holiday season, my family and I went on the Polar Express Train in Portland. It was a great experience. In the summer, there are countless things to do whether it is the beach, the lakes, boating, jet skiing, canoeing, hiking, and many other sightseeing adventures. This house was a great choice for vacation and now that I have seen it in the winter, I am looking forward to seeing it in the summer.
We vacationed in this area because of a family reunion at Poland Springs. The house was just as advertised. Area by the river was the most enjoyable.. Three grills, plenty of chairs, fire pit for roasting marshmallows and kayak added to the ambiance of the river. The children, ages 8-16 were able to kayak down the river and swim in the river. Life preservers provided. The decking accomadates two umbrella tables and plenty of chairs. When it rained , the kids were able to play games in the basement. Owners meet us when we arrived and were very attentive to our needs. We had a problem with the shower drain the 1st night. It was fixed promptly the next day. Master bedrooms and baths are spacious. Third bedroom is a tight fit but there is planty of storage. Plenty of linens and blankets were provided. Wireless internet and cable t.v. included. Plenty of fans located throughout for comfort.
Despite the rainy weather, it was a pleasant stay. Quiet neighborhood with plenty of privacy.
Naples is located in the heart of the Lakes Region. The Songo River gives boat access to Brandy Pond, Long Lake and Lake Sebago. It is known for its summer activities and there are many. Visitors to Naples must experience a ride on the Songo River Queen II. Take a ride in a seaplane. Marinas in Naples rent Boats and personal watercraft. They also are sure to check out the variety of restaurants and shops that make Naples a wonderful place to visit. Naples has The State Park with its beautiful beaches. Other summer activities include camping, hiking, mini-golf or just “hanging out” on the Causeway. Just 15 minutes away in Bridgton there is a 2 screen Drive-In Movie Theater. There are 2 public 18-hole golf courses. In Naples there is always plenty to see and do. Off-season in Naples can be an even better time to visit. Winter sports such as cross country skiing, ice-skating; snowshoeing and snowmobiling keep locals and visitors busy. Nearby Shawnee Peak has beautiful ski slopes.
