We first visited Saba after hearing about the spectacular diving. That first visit was too short to do much exploring, so we came back to dive and hike and see more of this charming and unspoiled island, and we fell in love with the place and the people.
Sherry Marts and Larry Haller purchased this cottage in 2010
Flamboyant Cottage is a typical Saba cottage, perched on the side of a hill and perfectly situated to catch the constant breeze off the Caribbean. Flamboyant Cottage sits in a quiet neighborhood (no roosters!) of traditional Saba cottages, with a spectacular view of neighboring islands. Make the 12-minute walk to Windwardside for shopping and dining, and stop at the Trail Shop, the Tourist Bureau, or one of the dive shops to learn more about Saba's natural beauty, above and below water.
Saba has no beaches, no large resorts, no cruise ship visits. It offers pristine reefs for diving, hiking through spectacular rainforest and cloudforest ecosystems, and great dining. Sabians are some of the friendliest people you'll meet, and they are justifiably proud of their island's unique history and culture. Spend the morning diving or hiking, come back for a dip in the pool. Sit on the porch, sip a glass of wine, watch the sky change at sunset and listen as the tree frogs start to sing, then stroll into Windwardside for dinner (remember to take a flashlight!). Ahhh.
The walk was 20 for me. I got the 3 geocaches I was planning. The pool water was a bit too cold for me so I never used it. Michael and Tricia were very helpful. The TV was great. I normally do not use it because I am on the amateur radio most of the time. I had spare time as radio conditions were dead at times. Had nothing to do with this location but atmospheric. The breeze was a blessing as it was a little hot for me but the fans did the trick. The island is the nicest I have experienced in the Caribbean. Great stay.
( I thought I had submitted a review already ... but since I received an email request ..here is another on the assumption that the first got lost)
This is an ideal spot on Saba to relax away from it all. My wife and I were there for a week hiking, exploring the island and generally just chilling. The pool was wonderful after a long hike up and around the mountains. (or into town). The property is beautiful, quiet (no traffic) and fairly private. There is no one behind, there are trees between the side neighbor, and the front neighbor across the access road although close,is so much lower down the hill that it does not matter. This may not the best spot if you are unable to walk for any distance as the driveway out and the hill in and out of town are steep.(Think volcano!!). However, this was not a problem for us.
The property managers were a phone call away and very friendly and helpful. The house had all the required amenities plus wifi. There was a speaker dock for iPhone (with a iPhone 5 adapter) that was just perfect for streaming music. (but not at night as you want to hear the frogs).
If you are diving it is a touch inconvenient being out of town and you may want to co-ordinate with dive shop for taxis etc. or just get up a little earlier and walk.
Highly recommended for a Saba stay.
A wonderful week at Flamboyant Cottage. A great place, quiet, lots of room, close to town with a wonderful view; and all the amenities. That pool is so nice after a day hike up Mt. Scenery!! The Internet was perfect for emails, news and terrific for streaming music. Thanks for having the iPhone 5 adapter!! Also to make it perfect ... The full Sea Hunt DVD set for late evenings!! Awesome! (The only issue there is the TV does interfere with hearing the lovely frogs)
We hiked a lot and chilled some days. All perfect.
Thank you and I hope we'll be back to Saba soon.
Flamboyant cottage is a class act . My wife and I felt comfortable and relaxed the whole time . Property managers were very helpful but weren't over bearing. Property owners were readily available every time we had a question or inquiry before we took our trip . Go visit Saba and stay in the flamboyant cottage ... You will NOT regret it!!!
There were four adults in our party - my wife and I, my sister-in-law, and niece. The house is a delight. The views are stunning. When the sun sets there is a symphony of birdsong and little croaking frogs. One could spend many a lazy day with a beer while catching rays by the pool or on the deck.
The house is stocked with everything you need and the owners even provided a cell phone for local calls - very convenient. Location is EXCELLENT - about a 10-15 minute walk to Windwardside where you have the 2 markets, restaurants (try Brigadoon) and can book snorkeling or diving. They have even thought to have a 2-wheeled shopping cart. Even though the walk to town was relatively short, it is either "all up" or "all down" and with a load of groceries the owner's thoughtfulness was much appreciated.
You will need a taxi driver to get around. We strongly recommend "Lollipop". She was a stand-in for the regular driver (who was unavailable) that the owners arranged for our pickup at the dock. She is a wonderful character!!
If we go back to Saba, we will certainly try to stay at the Flamboyant House. It has our unreserved recommendation.
Just back from our second stay at Flamboyant Cottage (named for the beautiful flowering
trees you see on Saba). It is a cute as a button. Perfectly sized for a couple or two couples.
It is fully and well stocked with nearly everything you have at home. And it's nice that it's at
a reasonable rental rate making it more available for a lot of people.
The views are amazing and there is a nice shaded pergola just outside the kitchen 'dutch' door
that comfortable seats six. The breezes are delightful.
We've only been here early February and it was never too hot to use the pool, but it's great to
sit next to while you sunbathe.
The only downsize is walking up the considerably steep hill/road where the cottage sits about
halfway down. However, you need the exercise anyway!! Plus if you're here to hike on the many
trails, you probably won't even mind it. My thighs actually have firmed up a bit. Once at the top
of this hill/road, it's only about a 10 minute walk into Windwardside, where most of the action
takes place. Food stores, cafes, restaurants, snacks, gift/souvenirs with Saba written on them,
and scuba and hike shops.
So don't hesitate to make your own memories here. It's nice and quiet and even if you do nothing,
this is the place to do it!!! We'll be back again!

Flamboyant Cottage is located on Booby Hill, a 10 minute walk from the shops, groceries and restaurants of Windwardside on the unspoiled island of Saba. Perched at 1,500 feet above sea level, the view of the Caribbean Sea is spectacular, and the trade winds keep the cottage cool. The cottage has high-speed wireless internet access, and we provide a cell phone for guest use while on island.
Other Activities: Saba offers some of the best reef diving in the Caribbean, and many visitors come for the diving. But while you are on Saba, be sure to enjoy the spectacular hiking, particularly the trails to the top of Mt. Scenery and through the Saban cloud forest. Stop by the trail shop in Windwardside for maps, books and DVDs about Saba's history and natural history, and souvenirs of your visit.
