Living Like a Local in Paris
Salomé was a wonderful hostess and her flat was absolute perfection for our stay in Paris. She met us at the apartment and made sure we understood how everything worked and how to get in and out before leaving the two of us to crash out from our long journey.
It's in a fantastic section of the Marais right between the Saint Paul & Bastille metro lines so you can get to anywhere in the city in minutes. There's a Monoprix and an amazing bakery (Miss Manon) right across the street so you can save money by making some of your meals in the fully outfitted kitchen. Or if you choose not to cook, there are dozens of marvelous little cafes and restaurants just steps from the front door. There's even a creperie right outside and you can smell the hot crepes creeping up the stairwell. Of course we couldn't resist trying a few.
There are some stairs, which is to be expected in the Marais as all of the buildings are very old. However, you only have to go up 1.5 very easy flights to get to the apartment. They aren't steep in the slightest. It's really surprising how quiet the apartment is since it's right off of a very active street. It's tucked back and the windows open to a small courtyard so you are shielded from the noise but still in the thick of things. For two women traveling alone, it also felt very safe. There's a code needed to get from the street through a big door to the hallway, then an iron gate which also required a code.
We found the twin beds to be quite comfortable. There's also a nice couch and a big table with 4 chairs to sit at. There's no TV but did you really come to the City of Light to watch television? The internet is super fast and very reliable. We had no problems with it whatsoever. There's a full sized washing machine AND dryer in the bathroom. That made it really nice so we wouldn't have to pack as much clothing and could do a wash halfway through our trip and before moving onto our next destination. There's good water pressure in the shower and if you're tall and worried about short European shower heads, it has a handheld and an overhead rain shower head higher up. The bathroom may seem a little small but it is very efficiently laid out.
I highly recommend this apartment. I would stay here again in an instant. It had everything we needed for a week long trip but I think I'd stay even longer next time. I absolutely love the neighborhood where it's located and feeling almost like a real Parisian. Even for just a few days.
