My name is David and I am your host at the Parkside B&B in Cambridge, MA. Originally from the mid west, I have found an appreciation for Cambridge/Boston and Yankee values. The area has been my home since I arrived in Massachusetts for graduate study in landscape architecture.
David Szlag purchased this hotel in 1994
The Cambridge/Boston area is full of history related to culture and nature. The Harvard Square area is especially vital and diverse. Bustling with students for nine months of the year and then settling down to the qualities of a small town for the summer. Cambridge is home to some of the world's finest universities and a hub of biomedical technology. It also provides a full range of tradesmen and industrial services necessary to make a city an easy place to live. Everything is right here. I often refer to the Boston area as the 15 Minute City. 15 minutes to downtown, 15 minutes to the airport, 15 minutes to the ocean and 15 minutes to the country (Concord, Lexington and Walden Pond). Nothing is far away from Parkside B&B’s Cambridge location on Ellery Street and usually within walking distance!
Restaurants abound as Cambridge is known in the area for its outstanding selection of quality food and exceptional dining experiences. Sandwich and burger cottages to Four Star dining are all are within 12 to 15 walking minutes from the Parkside B&B, the place I call home. The Rialto, Legal Seafood, Café Sushi, East Coast Grill, Darwin’s, Spice, Sandrine, Charley’s Kitchen, Zoe, S&S Deli, Oleana and Il Panino are on my list of favorites and places I recommend to guests.
Places to see are all around as well, within a short walk from Parkside B&B... the Glass Flowers, Hawthorne’s House, Cambridge Common where Washington took command of the troops, the Peabody Museum, the Fogg Museum, the Sakler Museum, MIT Museum, Harvard Yard, MIT, Harvard Square, the American Repertoire Theater, Sanders Theater to just scratch the surface.
The Redline subway in Harvard Square provides easy access to all there is in Boston and the metro area. The Freedom Trail, Fenway Park, Museum of Science, North End, New England Aquarium, USS Constitution, Fanuel Hall Marketplace, Paul Revere House, Old North Church, Bunker Hill monument, Boston Public Library, Arnold Arboretum, Boston Common, John F. Kennedy Library, Customs House, Children’s Museum, Isabella Stewart Gardiner Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Afro American History, Boston Esplanade, Seaport District, Commonwealth Avenue Mall, Franklin Park Zoo and Charles River Canoe and Kayak.
Then there are the events that mark the passage of the seasons… New Years Eve and First Night in Boston, the Boston Marathon, Harvard Commencement along with Tufts, MIT, Lesley, Longe School of Music, Boston University, Cambridge College, Cambridge River Festival, Head of the Charles Regatta, Christmas Holiday in Harvard Square.
What a lovely B&B. This is my third visit to Parkside on Ellery and I've yet to be disappointed. From arrival to departure, I've had a great experience. I was made to feel at home, the owner is accessible and helpful, the rooms I've stayed in have been clean, well furnished and quiet, the garden is beautiful and it's an easy 5 minute walk to Harvard Square and the MBTA. And the garden is so beautiful.
I live in the greater Boston area and this a home away from home for me when I want to spend a weekend in the city and attend concerts, the theater, go to dinner. It's restaurant week in Boston so I had a great meal at Rialto and saw Cassandra Wilson at the Regatta Bar. It's a really nice walk from Parkside through Harvard Square to both these venues. In the past when I've stayed at Parkside, I went to Christmas Revels at Sanders Theater and to the American Repertory Theater on Brattle.
My favorite room is the Scholar. I really recommend this B&B.
Parkside on Ellery is located directly across the street from the new Cambridge Public Library and its adjacent park.
