Panoramic Ocean Views & Walk to Beach

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4-5)

Casa Mirador sits on a cliff overlooking Punta Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park. It is a 10-15 minute walk to both Playa Espadilla and 15-20 Playa Biesanz. Playa Espadilla is great for surfing and body boarding while Playa Biesanz is more protected and better for snorkeling and swimming.

The house was designed by an award-winning architect to bring the area’s natural beauty right into the house. There are breathtaking views from every window and terrace. Even the bathroom has a spectacular view. A tropical forest surrounds the back of the house providing privacy and a front row seat to Costa Rica’s exotic plants and wildlife.

The house has two bedrooms on the second floor and can easily sleep four people. There is a queen sized bed in one room and two twin beds in the other. There are several private terraces, including one in the master bedroom. The architect designed the house in a European style. It is simple and elegant in its construction and furnishings. The house is mostly suitable for those who do not require lavish amenities, as there is no TV or air-conditioning. You will find however, that air conditioning is not necessary as the house sits on the top of a ridge and enjoys a constant fresh ocean breeze. Numerous windows and ceiling fans also provide for excellent ventilation.

Casa Mirador is a place to relax and appreciate Costa Rica’s natural beauty. In the morning, you will awaken to the exotic songs of rainforest birds and the sounds of the rolling waves of the sea below. Occasionally, you will hear howler monkeys in the distance (sometimes not so distant) giving their morning salutations. Often there are toucans in the palm trees around the house. If you’re lucky, you might even see white-faced monkeys, squirrel monkeys or sloths dangling and jumping from the trees around the house. There are identification cards in the house as well so you will know what type of animal you are viewing - from mammals to birds to amphibians to butterflies.

You can have your morning coffee on the terrace and enjoy the fresh breeze as you take in the spectacular view of Manuel Antonio and Playa Espadilla. It is a short 10-15 minute walk downhill to Espadilla Beach below the houses and an additional 15-20 minute walk along the beach to Manuel Antonio and the road to the National Park.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove/oven, microwave oven, toaster oven, refrigerator, coffee-maker, blender, and all plates, pots, pans, utensils, etc. The house has a telephone in the living room area. There is one full bathroom and also an outside shower. There is hot water throughout the house, including the outside shower. Sheets and towels will be changed once each full week of your stay. This can be done more often upon request. There are plenty of towels for showering and larger beach towels for outside use.

The houses are gay and family friendly and the owners and caretakers welcome everyone to enjoy the property.

Please note that the house sits on a ridge and is only accessible by a series of approximately 110 steps leading from the parking area up to the house. This can make it a moderate physical endeavor. As such, it might not be the best choice for people who are physically restricted. The walk up the stairs, however, is rewarding as it provides you with the fantastic view on top. There is an electric elevator basket that runs up the side of the hill the to the houses, but it was constructed to carry luggage and supplies only. The caretaker will take charge of getting all of your luggage to the house. You need only take your body up the stairs. The steepness of the terrain, the stairs (outside and inside the house), and the high balconies and terraces may make the house unsafe for children under a certain age. Please refrain from smoking inside the house.

Manuel Antonio National Park is one of Costa Rica 's best known and most often visited parks. The area is home to over 353 species of birds. Howler and white-faced monkeys, two-toed and three-toed sloths, coati-mundi and raccoons frequent the beaches in and outside the Park.

The National Park area offers some of the best beaches on Costa Rica's Pacific coast for surfing, swimming and snorkeling. Within the area, there is much to enjoy; bird watching, hiking, kayaking, horseback riding, and boat trips for fishing or to watch dolphins.

Located besides the town of Quepos in the Central Pacific Zone, the area is one of the most beautiful in Costa Rica.

Please see the link below for more photos and information. This house is near a second one bedroom house also available for rent (Listing #90822). Both houses may be rented out in combination as well.

What a wonderful, wonderful vacation! This house was FANTASTIC - and exactly as (well, better than) described. We saw white face capuchin monkeys from the house the first morning, toucans daily, blue crown mot mots, kissidees, turkey vultures, and hawks on a regular basis (just to name a small few). The view of the ocean was breathtaking, and the people were very congenial. Bismark and Gloria (the caretakers) are terrific people, very helpful and warm. The guidebook was extremely helpful, and at one of the restaurants we saw squirrel monkeys every night (both the squirrel monkeys and capuchins had babies with them). We heard howlers every morning and evening, saw geckos and lizards galore, could you ask for better?? Also, the owners are VERY responsive to gazillions of questions. We would return without hesitation, and hope to, soon!

Amazing House!

  • 5 of 5

This house was perfect for our family of 5. The view is worth the walk. The caretaker, Bismark, was so kind and helpful. It's comforting that he lives very close to the house. Beds were nice; kitchen was user friendly. The outside shower was perfect. House was nicely stocked with games, books, and useful picture cards for local animals. We saw tons of animals from the decks - monkeys, toucans, hummingbirds, etc. We enjoyed Bismark's dogs which hung out and made things feel like home. We had a 4x4 and were able to drive down to a beach just below the house (you can park on the beach). House had a small cooler, a few beach chairs and great beach towels. There was a second beach a short drive or walk below the house where you can pay someone a small amount to watch your car while you enjoy the beach. We saw a few sloths here and we rented snorkel gear at this beach. (Snorkeling was just ok here and one of my kids stepped on a sea urchin, but that has nothing to do with the house review). Bottom line, you cannot go wrong with this place. It's in a little community of other houses where you feel close to people (which is sometimes comforting in a foreign country), but it is also private. It was hot as fire while we were there, but there were several fans around the house. It's the ULTIMATE coffee or wine on the deck kind of place. I wish I was there right now!

Tree-top paradise

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Casa Mirador was absolutely magical! The views from every square inch of this property are breathtaking. The house is very comfortable and has everything one would need. True, there is no AC but it honestly isn't needed (the fans and the breeze suffice). Each morning a Toucan would be welcoming the day in the tree just outside the bedroom window. Bismark and his family are so kind and extremely helpful. We especially loved his son's pup, Nina, who loves to play fetch with coconuts. Biesanz beach was a little cove of serenity and we highly recommend it. We look forward to visiting again in the future.

Casa Mirador Manuel Antonio, CR - Great value and great place to stay!

  • 4 of 5

Casa Mirador was great! The views are the real selling point of this property. Everything was just like the ad had said. The caretaker was friendly, helpful, available, etc. The kitchen was well-stocked with pots and pans and the like. Safe, comfortable an an overall wonderful stay! I would recommend this place and I would certainly return. The only negative: the fans aren't enough. We were pretty hot for most of our stay and there was surprisingly very little to no breeze! There is a ceiling fan in each bedroom and one in the main room and they are weak and not enough, especially the one downstairs. Put another ceiling fan in the kitchen and stock the house with 2-3 standing, oscillating fans and this would be a 5-star place indeed!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your feedback. I'm glad you had a great time overall and am sorry you weren't luckier with the breezes. We usually get them because the houses are so high up. I'm going to talk with my caretaker today and implement your suggestions - esp. the overhead fan in the kitchen. Great call. Thanks! Julie

This house is nothing short of AMAZING!! The views are stunning and there are windows everywhere to allow you to enjoy it. The walk to the beach is only 15 minutes and it's just beautiful. The house is well-maintained and close to so many restaurants as well. The groundskeeper Bismark is incredibly helpful and friendly. I can't think of one negative thing about this place.... well - you will probably hear howler monkeys in the middle of the night, but that's part of the charm! We'd go back in a second and recommend it to every single one of our friends. You absolutely cannot do better with a rental than this!!

Stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time in this property at the start of green season. We did have some unbelievable thunderstorms (according to the caretaker, Bismark, the worst he's heard in 40 years), but everything was very nice and exactly as described, so read carefully.

Some notes:

- the view is gorgeous--this is what sold me on the property and we weren't disappointed in the least. As a bonus, we were treated to daily sightings of toucans and capuchin monkeys. They literally play in the trees & garden between the house and the road. There's lots of other wildlife. You'll wake up to the howler monkeys for sure.

- there are a lot of steps to climb up & down. There's a pulley system to help with luggage, but you'll be going up & down steps a lot.

- when in doubt, ask. Bismark's entire family is VERY helpful. We had a few bad sunburns; we able to help ourselves to some aloe growing in the garden and were given some aloe-based creme. It's so nice having someone nearby to keep in eye on things and to answer questions.

- the beaches are nice--Playa Biesanz is more protected (no riptides) if you have smaller children. We actually drove to the entrance way and parked on the road--it's all up-hill coming back and we wanted the kids to have energy for other stuff.

- the balconies banisters are somewhat low and the floor boards are spaced kind of far apart. It's nice but something you might want to consider with kids.

- Since we did arrive in green season, it's worth mentioning that although it was somewhat hot, we didn't have any issues with bugs or mosquitoes or anything. There were some gnats in the bathroom sink each morning for whatever reason, but we didn't have any issues with biting insects. We had fans that worked well (we moved the big one downstairs to the 2nd bedroom where the kids slept; that solved that problem).

- the kitchen was fine and exactly. The refrigerator/freezer worked well. There's no oven, but I honestly don't want to start up an oven when I'm vacationing in the summer in the tropics. There were dishes and pots & pans, toaster, coffee maker, etc. and those all worked fine. The outdoor shower was really good to clean up after a day at the beach.

Also--it's hard not to look at the other non-5 star review... but in my opinion you can't compare properties in Manuel Antonio to Arenal any more than you can compare a mountain lodge in Colorado to a beach house in Hawaii.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review! Very kind of you to take the time to write it all down. The only thing is that we have an oven. I just emailed our caretaker (in case I was losing my mind...) and double-checked and it's a stove/oven? I'm so sorry it seemed like we didn't have one - but it sounded like it worked out anyway? Please come visit us again - we have a 15% discount for returning guests and thank you again for the nice comments!
