This plantation style home is centrally located on Alii Drive. Walk downtown to Kailua-Kona for dinner or to enjoy a nearby beach.
It's fully furnished and ready to accommodate your daily living. The oceanfront pool and hot tub are exclusively for your use.
The home has three bedrooms each with their own bath and lanai access. Living and dining rooms open up to the spacious lanai equipped with dining table and gas bbq.
Plenty of parking both behind the gate and on the street. This is affordable luxury at it's finest!
The house was amazing! Great house, great location! We had friends visiting from Stockholm and really wanted to show them a good time. They said it was the best vacation they have ever had!
The house easily slept the six of us. It was such a better deal than staying at a hotel. We were able to shop locally and cook/eat in comfort.
We spent three weeks enjoying this lovely house, that has an exceptional layout and location! We have rented many homes over the years on VRBO, a few of which are on the Big Island, and we have to say this house was one of the very best. You simply can not beat the location; it is a nice short walk to town, but you will be hard pressed to want to leave the house! We had worried initially about being on the main road through town, but found it was very easy to get in and out, with a side street close by that hopped you up and away from town. We spent a lot of time enjoying the oceanfront pool and large pool deck with it's many comfy loungers. The ocean view is spectacular and the sunsets are stunning. We watched pods of dolphins playing out front and passing by daily. As avid scuba divers, we enjoy the underwater world and found the little reef right out front to be an excellent snorkelling location (a little care needs to be taken to enter and exit, but the reef is very nice and there is a abundant variety of fish right there in your 'front yard'). We found the house to be private and peaceful, with soothing ocean waves lulling you to sleep at night. Many nights we enjoyed a BBQ dinner on the deck and found the kitchen to be well stocked with everything you need to make a nice meal. The hot tub was a fantastic way to end the day; it was so nice to be able to relax, watch the ocean waves and star gaze. The house itself is unique, in that it has 3 good sized bedrooms, each having their own ensuite bathroom and there is another full bathroom downstairs---this is such a great feature especially when travelling with friends or family--privacy for all! We would not hesitate to recommend this house at all and we plan to book it again for our next trip to the Big Island.
We enjoyed snorkeling, fishing, swimming in the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, and barbecues on the deck with spectacular sunsets right in the backyard. We took the short walk into town daily for coffee, restaurants, shopping, farmers market, and great night life (Ocean's, Humpy's and Huggo's are the best). It's a quick drive to Magic Sands Beach and one of my favorite snorkel spots. We even discovered turtles close by!
The layout of the house is great with en suite baths for every room and each with equally fantastic views. The crashing waves of the ocean drown out any street noise and the gate keeps the property secure. The ceiling fans kept the house cool enough; we never needed the A/C. Even though the house is old, everything was in working order and perfect for our active family with grown children. Thank you for sharing your paradise. I would definitely recommend this property and we will be back!
Let me start with the good...
1) Ocean front is in, ON THE OCEAN. Fantastic views and perfect seat for sunsets
2) New hot tub, on the smaller side, seats 4
3) Location in relation to Kailua-Kona
4) Home setup is good with a bath for each room including one downstairs
5) Security gate gives peace of mind
6) Pool is nice, keep in mind it's DEEP on one side which I personally love, but others may be leary
7) NO bugs. If you know Hawaii, this is a nice thing. Not a cane spider or cockroach in site!
Negative Nancy stuff...
1) A/C is allowed for guests upstairs only. There is a unit for downstairs but I never located the thermostat (maybe not a big deal seasonally as the doors open wide wide wide)
2) I'm glad I did not rent during summer because the A/C unit upstairs gave up the ghost while we were there. It struggled while on
3) Bathrooms need attention. VERY outdated and a bit on the icky side
4) Kitchen is no frills but it may be time to replace pots and pans
5) Faucets, shower heads, need replacing. Most aerators are missing and corroded over
6) Noisy street out front (we knew Alii drive was like this, but the home has upper vents that don't close so the noise is with you 100% of the time.
7) Public access adjoins the property which is one reason I admire Hawaii, but we had lots of "guests" hanging out on the wall
All and all this could be a magnificent home and we know things get old which is perfectly fine. But when they no longer work as designed or are corroded over, it may be time to invest a bit back into the property. The ocean redeems this property. Without it I would have been teetering on unhappy. I was content and I think you would be as well but I can't go further than that. I wasn't overwhelmed or underwhelmed. It it was a word, I was "whelmed".
Not only is this location on the ocean but it is literally a nice walk into town.
The house is very livable with the three bedrooms and each having their own private bathroom.
Loved having the pool and relaxing hot tub with a calming ocean view and a glass of wine.
You can walk on the lava rocks to view the sea creatures or visit the surfing beaches, white sand beach or snorkel beach which are just about a mile or two away.
Whether you are looking for a relaxing vacation, a reunion or a girls get away this is the perfect place.
I've have come back to this house for the last 10 years and hope to come for the next ten.
Once again, thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us. Your new hot tub was fantastic. We had a great stay other than the hiccups we discussed on the phone. Your location and accessibility to view Spinner Dolphins, Hump Back Whales is absolutely amazing. We will be back! Thank you again.
We had a great time renting this home! It was very comfortable, clean and not so fancy that you felt like you couldn't enjoy your stay! It is close walk to town, Huggos for drinks and Bongo Bens for a great breakfast. Most of the time we just wanted to stay at the house, enjoy the view, swim in the pool and enjoy the sunsets(except when the cruise ship blocked our view :( ). Our daughter's in-laws,who live in the northern part of the Big Island, told us "every time we come to visit we have to stay here". Mahalo Kathleen for renting this home. We will be back !!!
