- english, spanish
We came to Chile on vacation and fell in love! We are so proud to be chosen by Conde Nast Traveler as one of the 'Visionary Villas of 2011'. Villa Tunquen was also chosen the winner on HGTV episode, 'The Curved House'. You can see the video below.. It makes us happy to share our piece of paradise with you!
Judy purchased this Villa in 2008
Why Judy chose Quintay
We were so inspired by the location, we wanted to be nestled into the environment, with soaring ceilings, curved walls of windows, enjoying lush gardens and the incredible backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, beautiful sweet water lagoon and five miles of deserted beach. All within 90 minutes of Santiago airport, incredible Casablanca wineries and the beautiful fishing village of Quintay. We couldn't ask for more!!
What makes this Villa unique
Tunquen means 'the place where you gather strength' in the Mapuche language. It is just that!

Beautiful location and great host!
This is a beautiful property - very secluded and quiet. The views are amazing, and the local areas like Valparaiso are amazing! The host is wonderful and helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.
Overall, we totally enjoyed our stay. The house is beautiful and so comfortable. Lots of indoor and outdoor spaces to hang out and an easy hike to the beach. We also used the pool, hot tub and meditation tower daily. This was our first time living off the grid and things were great. We also appreciated Judy's suggestion to stop at HOUSE Casa del Vino winery for lunch on the drive from Santiago - a fantastic meal and a fun time trying their wines, and her recommendation of a driver - he was awesome and easy to communicate with. We LOVED seeing the giant humming birds, as well as other wildlife around the house and at the beach. One day we walked to the small store in Tunquen and were happy to see the variety of food resources they had and loved the fresh nectarines there. If we had known in advance that there was also a restaurant there (Casa Tunquen Restaurant), we would have planned to try dining there in addition cooking our own meals in the house. We did have an issue with the overall cleanness of the home: when we arrived the house smelled musty, the kitchen counters and floor were not clean and the there was dust on most surfaces and dust bunnies all over the floors in the bedrooms. And the bedding in the master was pretty old. Additionally, the "amazing chef's kitchen" was a bit of a disappointment: cabinets very worn, cooking utensils and pots also well worn (melted spatulas, pot handles loose, etc.) and some dishes and the one dish towel were not clean. But it provided the tools we needed to enjoy home cooked meals. We didn't find the laundry room with the clothes dryer (washer was broken) until the last day - it would have been useful to know about it earlier as we had laundry to do from our previous travels. Overall, our family had a great time and enjoyed the experience.
Beautiful views, very peaceful
This property is positioned to offer glorious views of a beautiful beach. The waves crashing below and the cool breezes were ideal for lounging around day and night. The kitchen is very nice and well equipped. The exterior furniture is in need to replacement cushions and the solar heating system for the pool was not working, but overall it was a great place to spend our first week in Chile.
My family of four had a wonderful stay. The home is comfortable, well furnished and beautiful inside and out. Judy was easy to deal with and accommodating. Renate, the housekeeper, is awesome, friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Villa Tunquen for anyone who enjoys peace and beauty. If you are looking for the hustle and bustle of grimy city life, please look elsewhere!
AMAZING - RELAXING - BEAUTIFUL!!
Villa Tunquen was stunning in every way. Amazing views, comfortable, well designed rooms and spaces, excellent kitchen, lovely gardens, pool, hot-tub, sauna - ITS ALL HERE!
Close enough for excursions to Valparaiso, but remote enough for that all-important sense of "getting-away-from-it-all." Short walk to the beach or just lounge by the pool. Its a great vacation place - cant' wait to return!
Six of us - three couples - spent three fabulous days and nights at Villa Tunquen. From the moment we walked in the front door and gasped at the spectacular view from the living room windows, we remained in awe of the natural beauty of the surroundings. The house itself is fabulous - full of wonderful art and gracious design, but not at all imposing or formal. The bedrooms are comfortable, and each has its own view of the beach and ocean; the master bedroom is to die for. (We had to flip for it :) ). The house provided a great base for exploring Valparaiso - lunch at Espiritu Santo was excellent. Laura, the proprietor, was delightful, and gave us fulsome descriptions of our choices in impeccable English. We also visited a small winery in Casablanca - Kingston Family Vineyards - where the preferred tasting included a luscious three course lunch in a beautiful setting. Finally, we loved our dinner at MiraMar in the small fishing village of Quintay - although we were surprised by how early the kitchen closed on a Saturday night. That may have something to do with high tide, and the fact that you have to cross the beach to enter the restaurant. The drive to Quintay is not without its thrills, particularly in a boxy 8 passenger van with a manual transmission, but well worth the effort. We loved cooking at Villa Tunquen in the well appointed kitchen, and our friends joked that we needed to make a schedule so that we were each sure to spend time in each of the fabulous vista points, from the pool deck to the outdoor living area to the meditation tower. We would return in a hearbeat - if you are lucky enough to stay at Villa Tunquen, you are lucky enough.
