Our vision is that this would be place of blessing for truly married couples. Our desire is to honor God's definition of marriage. We believe that is one man and one women in a lifetime commitment of staying together.
Located just off the beaten path near the village of Gap, you'll find this cute getaway nestled in the quiet, among mostly Amish farms and businesses. This is a fully remodeled and tastefully decorated escape. It whispers romance, relaxation, and renewal.
You can eat on the back deck, relax in the hot tub and count the stars, or sit on the patio and enjoy the view of the tastefully landscaped backyard with a small pond and or watch the neighoring Amish children play. You can use the bikes and ride around the many Amish farms and businesses within a mile or tow of cottage.
In the stone basement an old original fireplace and comfy sofa beckons you to sit by the fire. The romantic bedroom suite features a comfortable king-size bed with a partial canopy. The fully equipped kitchen makes in house meal preparation easy. This is an ideal place for honeymoons and anniversaries, and truly a place you'll want to come back to. The vaulted bedroom ceiling with exposed beams and skylight is very distinctive.
This historic cottage is part of Spring Wood Organic Farm which is a 220 acre third generation Mennonite family farm operated by Roman and Lucy Stoltzfoos with the help of their eleven children. Most days you will see cattle and other animals peacefully grazing on well kept pastures nearby. All this is within 20 minutes of Lancaster's main tourist area, many good shopping malls, and excellent restaurants.

Roman and Lucy Stoltzfoos are operating Spring Wood farm for over 32 years which is a 3rd generation Mennonite family farm where Roman was born and raised. They were married on a bright sunny day in July 1978, near Iowa city, Iowa where most of Lucy's family still lives. After more than three years on a church mission near Charlottesville Va we were needed on the Home farm in Lancaster County Pa. So after working for dad one year we took over the dairy and were kept busy since raising our family in the Garden Spot. Eleven children and eight grandchildren later we are still kept busy on this 220 acre organic dairy and turkey farm. We also run 2500 layers that are free range grass fed happy hens. We enjoy sharing our slice of the country and some choice farm raised foods with cottage guests. Healthy children, Healthy food and Healthy marriages are the missions of Spring Wood Organic Farm. We want couples to be renewed as they pullback from busy schedules and take time to love up on each other and bask in the blessing and fulfillment of the true marriage covenant. It is a gift from God and one of His choice creations.
Roman or Lucy purchased this cottage in 2002
We enjoyed over the years of our marriage getting away as a couple to romantic little retreats and when we acquired this property with a small run down little house on it we thought of perhaps turning into a romantic getaway which would be a retreat for couples. It is refreshing to see the many that could benefit from their time here. We have enjoyed making romantic dreams come true for couples and love to host those interested in the blessing of married romance and intimacy.
You will be able to relax and really spend quality time together. There are books, tapes, romantic games, CDs, and DVDs here for your learning and enjoyment. There is something for everyone and you could spend several days or more here without becoming bored. Our desire is to honor the purpose for which God created marriage! Our goal is that you would be bonded in a new and refreshing way as you rest and relax at the cottage. This historic stone cottage was well built and artfully restored to give you a taste for the past and invites you tom enjoy the present in each other presence!! (:
The Little Stone Cottage was a wonderful spot that my wife and I needed. We feel that God really blessed our stay and has given us a new vision for our marriage. Every touch was beautifully done from the music, to the resources, to the rose petals & the wonderful words given by Roman & Lucy. Thank you so much! WE WILL BE BACK!!
Minimal typical distractions, private hiking trails, great caring owners, laid back, property in tip top shape, well equipped. No tv was a blessing in disguise. The supplied milk, bread, yogurt, granola can't be beat, all from the owner's farm. This is a very pleasant place with great views, a slice of life before the hub bub of the way most people now live. My wife and I have traveled to a lot of places and we have never found a comparable vacation place. You don't have to get on an airplane. It was a very romantic place for my wife and I.
We stayed for a week to celebrate our upcoming 20th anniversary. Roman and Lucy have thought of everything to make a couple very relaxed and comfortable during their stay at the Little Stone Cottage. From a neat and clean space to farm fresh goodies to a gigantic comfy bed; it was great! We even enjoyed keeping up with Team USA at the Olympics using the wireless internet provided. This cottage is located in a beautiful country setting but very close to many things to do in Lancaster County! We highly recommend this property to any couple looking for a get away! God has truly blessed Roman and Lucy with the the gift of this property and the gift of hospitality! Thank you!
When my husband and I were planning a weekend getaway for an early celebration of his birthday, I wanted a hotel with a pool, nightlife and restaurants. He was looking for something else and found the Little Stone Cottage. I am so grateful he did.
Owners Roman and Lucy have designed this lovely cottage with couples in mind. The home is immaculate and when we arrived there were rose petals scattered up the stairs, leading to the bedroom and the four-poster king-sized bed. On the main floor is a spacious kitchen, small living room with a double recliner and a dining area. A hot tub awaits outside on the deck. In the basement we found a gas fireplace, a massage table and a comfy couch. What were those sturdy hooks in the ceiling for? To hold the hammock, of course! In the garage were two bicycles and a pool table. Wooden rocking chairs on the front porch were the perfect place to watch Amish families go by in their buggies.
The refrigerator was stocked with home-made granola and grape nuts (these are not Post Grape Nuts, by which I mean they are not only edible but also delicious and they won't break your teeth), as well as eggs and milk from Roman and Lucy's farm. The milk was raw milk from grass-fed cows. I have never tasted milk like this. Can I go back to my store-bought fat-free milk? Not happily.
Roman's manual for the Little Stone Cottage is very comprehensive and, like the house itself, is designed to promote and enhance intimacy. People who live in "the world" might find this off-putting (we did not) but should keep in mind that many of his visitors come from a much more sheltered and insular environment and have not attended schools where sex-ed was on the curriculum from the fourth grade on. The manual also lists suggestions for things to do, and we did almost all of them. We also were invited to watch as the farm's 200 cows were milked. Fascinating.
The cottage is right in the middle of Lancaster County's 5,000 farms, half of them owned by the Amish. The views are breathtaking and the natural smells (yes, I mean manure) are not intolerable -- and not an issue at all inside the cottage.
My husband and I have been married for 28 years and we feel closer after this weekend than we have in a long time. Because we are caring for my mother at our home, it's not easy to schedule time away but we are already looking at dates for our next visit.
We had an amazing time here at the Little Stone Cottage. You are surrounded by peace and quiet both inside the cottage and outside. The scenery is just breath taking. Roman and Lucy literally thought of everything to make your stay a memorable one. The hot tub is a real treat. All the little touches throughout the cottage are perfect and romantic. The fresh eggs, yogurt, cheese, granola, grape seeds, milk and little snacks were so delicious, thoughtful and greatly appreciated. We couldn't ask for more here. Meeting with Roman was a blessing. We thought it was special having him pray for us prior to our arrival and again upon meeting. We were so grateful Roman was available to take us for a tour of the farm, It was amazing to see! We will definitely be back!
God Bless, Lynette & Nick
Took a few days off to celebrate our anniversary and get some alone time.
Very quaint and the owners are very gracious. Even though he was busy Roman made time to stop in for a brief visit.
We planned to ride motorcycles quite a bit but it rained to much all but one day we were there.
Still lots of good riding in the area.
Plenty of amenities to keep us busy and allow all of the intimacy one could desire in the very lovely decorated house. Made it a point to use all of the available items and do some reading.
Vey quiet and loved to hear the horse hooves and buggies going by on occasions.
Lots of things to do in the area and or do nothing if you desire. To say the least we were able to get catch up on rest and take the stresses away from everyday life like animals and chores.
Will look forward to coming back some day in the future and will for sure recommend to others who need some quiet private time.
Bird Watching, Miniature Golfing, Bikes included with rental, Library of Christian Books Tapes and CD's on Marriage, Massage Table, Hammock on private patio, hiking on trails in woods nearby.
