Quiet property

  • 4 of 5

The location is quite isolated and 15 minutes North of Taos.

The living room is comfortable with a gorgeous view of the mountain.

The yard is not fenced, so even though pets are accepted, they can't be let loose because of the wild life. Coyotes were singing their concerts all through the night.

The house is well appointed, although extremely stuffy and in need of ventilation.

The hot tub is in need of maintenance, the dials don't work and the area is over-run with ants. The owner did agree to spray.

Overall, we enjoyed our quiet time.

Owner's Response: We're sorry that this guest found the house to be stuffy! It was brutally hot across the country this summer and unseasonably warm, even here in Taos. That being said, there are virtually no homes in the Taos area which are air-conditioned as there is rarely a need for air-conditioning in our lovely, high dessert climate! We fear that our guest may not have followed our instructions to shut windows and solar shades during the day (to keep hot air out) and to open them at night (to let our lovely, cool night mountain air in). Following this procedure has kept the temperature very comfortable in my house, which is a few acres over and of similar construction! The dial on the hottub has been replaced! Folks often twist the dials too far and break them (which I think is a Softtub design flaw, not the fault of our guests!)...much so that we keep a supply of extra dials on hand...😄 With the extreme heat so come Ants to the Mesa! We're sorry that our guests didn't call us sooner: we would have sprayed for them immediately.

Quiet location

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed the great linens, comfortable beds and lots of very nice thick towels. The hot tub worked well and was easy to access. Unfortunately the view from the patio was not the best. The location was quiet and not too far from town. The weather was hot and the house could use better ventilation. Perhaps more ceiling fans would help. (The house did not cool easily.) Some minor deferred maintenance was evident. The kitchen was functional but a few more dishes and cups would be appreciated.

Owner's Response: We were very sorry to hear that this guest was uncomfortable with the temperature in the house, providing us with our first and only less than 4/5-Star rating! It was brutally hot across the country this summer and unseasonably warm, even in Taos. That being said, virtually no homes in the Taos area are air-conditioned as there is rarely a need for air-conditioning in our lovely, high desert climate! We fear that our guest did not follow our instructions to shut windows and solar shades during the day (to keep hot air out) and to open them at night (to let the cool night mountain air in). Following this procedure will keep the temperature in the house very comfortable! (There is also a large ceiling fan in the Great Room and Vornado fans provided in each bedroom closet!) Thanks to this guest for her suggestion to add some additional dishes. Upon inspection, it does appears that we have lost a few due to breakage! We also repaired a cabinet door which needed a new hinge.

Perfect Desert Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We booked this property for a week end retreat with friends. Not only is the location awesome, but the home was so comfortable and beautifully decorated. You truly had a sense of being in Taos. We enjoyed watching the sunrises and sunsets. We were treated to rainbows across the desert on a couple of occasions. The hot tub was so relaxing after a day of sight seeing (walking store-to-store on the Plaza can be tiring! lol). Great location for early morning or evening strolls. At night the sky seemed to glow from the moon and all the stars! We certainly hope that we will be able to return and stay here again. (This was quite comfortable for 2 couples--even sharing a bathroom was not that big of a deal). The beds were very comfortable & the furnishings were great. The home is also extremely clean. One note: This home is not airconditioned, although the owner provides several fans/overhead fans. The cross breezes through the house made it quite comfortable for us. It might be a little warm in the middle of the summer.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and appreciate the positive comments! As a point of interest, homes in the Taos area generally are not air-conditioned as air-conditioning is just not needed. Our lovely high desert climate affords a significant drop from daytime to evening temps, making for wonderful sleeping weather during the summer months!

Spectacular Mountain views

  • 5 of 5

There are 360 views of mountains, and they are spectacular. We enjoyed our stay very much. The house is nicely decorated with Mexican and Native American things which gives it authenticity. It is also warm and inviting. The beds are very comfortable and the peace and quiet is only interrupted by the crows. Mary and Maggie were great . They told the truth about the dirt road. It was very bumpy this time of year but the house is worth every bump. We highly recommend that you stay at the house. We know you will enjoy the beautiful get away.

Desert paradise

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been more pleased with this relaxing place. From the decor to the hot tub to the natural beauty of the scenery: it was all good. You are 7 miles from Taos but that peace and quite works for us. There is a fairly rough packed dirt road to travel down to get to the house but we had 4 wheel drive. The home is clean and well-equipped except for the wine opener. I forgot to tell you, Mary, that the tip is bent and does not work. Pretty minor, I'd say.
