Love the beauty of nature and love this beach! I work hard and play hard but in the end want a peaceful, private beach to relax.
Been coming here since the early 1980's and the waters have this amazing turquois that change with the sunlight that is so magical. The place brings peace in my heart. Abaco is a family island with almost zero crime , I like safe and peaceful.
Beach, kayak, beach, sailing, beach, fishing, beach, hammock under the stars.
It's crazy great. The pictures DO NOT do it justice at all. We were floored rolling out the back door onto that fantastic beach. We haven't left it since we unpacked the car.
Dwight and Diana have been awesome. Dwight hooked me up with a hawaiian sling for the lobsters and that thing is downright lethal. I got 1 with a tickle stick and net in about an hour of chasing them around, at which point Dwight came down the beach and offered the sling. I got 2 more good sized lobster in no time and easily could have had more. I saw one that was easily the largest I've ever seen and I've lobstered many times in the Florida Keys. I swear it looked as big as a small dog. HUGE. He was lucky, as I already had more than enough for the two of us, so he was spared, although if he doesn't move on he may not be so lucky tomorrow. Needless to say we had lobster for dinner.
Dwight also seems to like fishing more than a little and might head out with us to show us the ropes out on the water, which would be awesome for these two newbies to the area.
I'll try your suggestion on the plankton tomorrow. I was out wandering a bit this evening, but didn't know about that, so I'll give that a whirl tomorrow.
From the time we arrived until the time we left we were made to feel comfortable. The views from the house and beach are amazing! We snorkeled almost every day behind the house and out about 100 yards. We had a storm blow through one evening so the next day we drove down to Sandy Point to find some shells. We rented the downstairs as a one bedroom but Joyce, the caretaker was nice enough to show us the rest of the house (we will be back with family or friends). Plenty of toys available to use such as kayaks, sunfish sailboat (we didn't use it as we didn't know how to put it together) along with inflatables galore and plenty of snorkeling gear (we brought our own). Met several people from the neighborhood and everyone was incredibly nice. Walks along the private beach almost every evening. Cocktails and star gazing on the rear patio! We went out snorkeling with one of the neighbors, who had a boat, and saw some of the shallow water reefs close by. Can't wait to come back. Easy access to the rest of the island but a very relaxing location.
My family, myself, and friends had a great time at the Nutty Mermaid. We have been all over the Bahamas, and I do mean all over. We were a mix of tech divers, reef divers, beachcomers, snorklers, and boaters, and Nutty Mermaid had it all for us. Make no mistake, you will need a car, but those are easily arranged in the city.
A perfect blend of privacy, with access to a "major" city, we really enjoyed the nite sky unpolluted by city lights, no noise, and a world class private beach. I'm not even a beach-goer, but this sandy beach in the back yard is unbeatable for small kids and adults alike. This is on the clear, brilliant, Sea of Abaco; the largest waves we had in our week were maybe 3 inches!
The minor downsides are a few horseflys, and you will need to drive to a restaurant; no real public transportation out there. The use of some minutes on a local cellphone was an unexpected bonus. Highly recommended, and I hope to return.
Michelle, my wife and I want to thank you for such a great place to stay. You had everything we could have needed in the house. I actually was lucky enough to catch our lobster dinner just off your beach. The home was centrally located for our activities. I would not hesitate to book again. Thank you.
We stayed at the Nutty Mermaid for 5 days after Chartering a CAT for a week cruising the sea of Abacos, The house was Awesome, private beach, water toys, snorkeling, walks down the beach. The house was very clean and the views were outstanding, We rented a power boat for a couple of days which I recommend you can get to treasure cay faster by boat then car, I would highly recommend the Nutty Mermaid if your looking for a quite place to stay, we will stay here again next time we come to the Bahamas.
This was our first visit to the Abaco's and didn't know what to expect. When we arrived on Friday at the Nutty Mermaid it was breath taking. Private but including all the comforts - the pictures online do not give it justice. Caught too much fish on Saturday and had to leave Mahi and Wahoo in the freezer for the caretaker.
Michelle provides everything from Kayak's to snorkeling equipment and paddle board. It was amazing. We rented a boat to go to other Islands and she arranged a place to dock the boat next to the house. When we drove to Treasure Cay we did not know what to expect. We came across a place called Treasure Sands Resort which was actually like an oasis on a secluded beach with a pool, bar and restaurant that was really incredible. Maybe 10 minutes at most from the house. The last day was windy so we drove to Little Harbor to visit Pete's Pub and gallery at Michelles recommendation. It was beautiful! Spent the whole day there. Michelle- you made our vacation this year so memorable. Thank you so much for opening up your home to us and all the information you provided to make sure we made the most of our first trip to Marsh Harbor. I can't wait to go back and have given your name and information to several of my friends in Charleston. Just don't want you to get too full because we are already planning our return.
What a relaxing, beautiful vacation. Who wouldn't love having the ocean in his/her backyard?! The accommodations were very comfortable and very beachy; just what you'd expect in a beach house in the Bahamas. Michelle has supplied the house with everything you might need for "fun in the sun."
A swim (most of the way it was a walk) to your private island right in the middle of your backyard ocean is a must for everyone. Treasure Cay Resort is a quick 10 mins away. The ferry to Green Turtle Cay is only 15 mins from the house, and Marsh Harbor is a quick 20 min. drive. The neighbors are all so friendly and helpful, and Joy is a gem! She checked on us almost every day during our stay, and went out of her way to make sure any problems that occurred were immediately solved.
Cocktails on the patio at sunset were some of our best memories.
Can't say enough about the relaxing, enjoyable vacation we had during our Nutty Mermaid vacation. Would definitely recommend the Nutty Mermaid as a great vacation spot.
As a matter of fact, we liked it so much we're going back next month for a longer stay!!
Privacy, peace, and tranquility on a private beach is what I love! Fishing, snorkeling, beach combing, sailing, enjoying the stars while swaying on the hammock, swimming, or basking in the warm Caribbean sun are at your front door. Just a short drive or boat ride away all restaurants, shops, and live music are at your demand. It's paradise just waiting to be enjoyed! Life is good!!
