Relax at our cute 2 Bed, 2 Bath Jasmin Cottage, with its colonial style veranda and colourfully decorated rooms. It is perfect for a family of 4 . Positioned across the road 15m from Kabalana beach and "The Rock" which has the best A frame surf break.
The house belonged to Sri Lanka's most famous writer, our Sri Lankan Shakespeare, Martin Wickramasinghe. He wrote novels about life in Sri Lanka exploring themes of applied modern knowledge in natural and social sciences, literature and linguistics.
Jasmin Cottage is a serene space that immediately makes you feel at home. The cottage does not have a sea view but looks out onto a large garden full of coconut trees and birds. There are 2 air conditioned rooms with private bathrooms, hot water and fans. One room has a double bed and the 2nd room has 2 single beds. I love to sit on the daybed outside on our veranda and watch the birds in the garden and the palm trees swaying in the wind. There is a fully functional kitchen to cook in or just make a cup of tea. In the evening relax with a good book or watch a movie on the 32 inch LCD TV and DVD player, we have a range of the latest movies for you. The cottage is child friendly and there are painting things, model clay, crayons, etc. plus the garden for kids to play ball or badminton in. My friend brings her 3 year old and we go to the beach in the morning, he plays with his toys in the sand outside Cafe Ceylon house, draws or plays ball.
You can rent the entire cottage or rent one bedroom. If you book for just 2 people you will get the use of one bedroom, private bathroom and rest of the house. If you would like to use 2 rooms for the two of you, please let me know and there will be an additional charge for this.
Cafe Ceylon is our amazing wild seafood fusion restaurant and the Australian Chef is my husband.
Interaction with Guests
Check in is at 2pm. If you want an early check in please contact me as I can see if this is possible. The key can be collected from the security guard at Café Ceylon, next door to the cottage. We give you everything you would get in a hotel but with the added home touches which come with love and care. Towels and bed sheets will be changed every 4th day. Someone will clean the garden but the whole place will be cleaned when you leave. Please do your own washing up. Treat our home as you would your own.
The cottage is easy to find as it is between 133km and 134km Galle Rd. The beach opposite the cottage is lovely for body boarding, learning to surf and serious surfing. As I mentioned before you are really lucky to have Cafe Ceylon on your doorstep for delicious, fresh wild seafood, oysters, lobster prawns and lagoon crabs all fresh from Koggola lake.
Jasmin Cottage is 10mins away from the nearest railway station Habaraduwa and 30mins from Galle Fort and Town. Galle Fort is 16th century Dutch Fort.
Other Things to Note
Please note there are occasional water and power cuts which we have no control over. Please be patient and remember you are in a developing country. There is a little local train which runs at the back of the cottage, the last train is at 7.30pm and the first one at 6.30am. I sleep like a log in Jasmin Cottage and this sound does not bother me, but if you think you will be disturbed by the noise please do not book our cottage.
I was born in the beauty Island of Sri Lanka, also called Serendipity which means happy coincidence. I left as a child and grew up in London, UK until about 9 years ago when I returned to my home. My husband German who had been living in Australian had just moved to Sri Lanka when we met. We got married on the beach opposite Jasmine Cottage in 2012. It remains a very special place for us.
Jasmine Cottage is our weekend retreat from Colombo. We love it because it is a few metres from the beach but not on the beach so you do not get all the stickiness and damp feeling that comes from staying on the beach. It is also next door to the best restaurant on the South Coast, Café Ceylon which serves wild seafood and salads fresh from the garden. Try the Lagoon lobster prawn. They are wild prawns caught in the local Koggola Lagoon and they grow to the size of a Lobster. They are chargrilled to perfection and taste juicy and sweet.
Opposite Kabalana Beach where you can surf at The Rock. Next door to the best restaurant on the Southern coast Café Ceylon.

The cottage is on the landside of the Galle Road, 15m from Kabalana Beach where you can surf at 'The Rock'. There is also a coral reef and stilt fisherman and surf school on the beach. I love body boarding an hour before sunset. Watching the sky change from blue to orange whilst catching the most amazing waves.
