~ About the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park ~
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, established in 1916, displays the results of 70 million years of volcanism, migration, and evolution -- processes that thrust a bare land from the sea and clothed it with complex and unique ecosystems and a distinct human culture. The park encompasses diverse environments that range from sea level to the summit of the earth's most massive volcano, Mauna Loa at 13,677 feet. Kilauea, the world's most active volcano, offers scientists insights on the birth of the Hawaiian Islands and visitors views of dramatic volcanic landscapes.
Over half of the park is designated wilderness and provides unusual hiking and camping opportunities. In recognition of its outstanding natural values, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has been honored as an International Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site.
The National Park Web site provides up-to-date information on volcanic activity, safety, schedule of park lectures/presentations, tours and hiking trails.

If you are caught in steady downpours for six full days, as we were during our visit to Big Island, this is where you would want to stay! And you would definitely want to stay there when the weather is better. The house is fabulous, inside and out, elegant and designed with comfort in mind. It has everything one might need, and the warp-around porch is terrific place to hang out on good and bad days. Alternatively, you can cozy up in front of the fireplace. Unless you want to stay near the beach, it really doesn’t get any better than this.
Big Mahalo for you beautiful review. You were a pleasure to host and I welcome you back anytime.
The home was beautiful, secluded and very comfortable. The owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome with fresh fruit upon arrival and all the amenities of home! Great location for visiting Volcano National Park.
Quiet Retreat Volcano, Hawaii April 2018
What a fantastic home located in Volcano Hawaii in a secluded area about 3-4 miles from the volcano national park entrance. The house is surrounded by a fern forest with tropical plants, flowers and fruit trees. The house has a lanai that wraps around the complete home with sliding glass doors around 3/4 of the house to view the forrest from just about any room in the house. The doors have sliding screen doors that can be closed while the glass doors are open preventing any insects from entering the house. i must say we didn't experience any insects at all during our 5 night stay. The home is fairly easy to find but id try to locate the home before dark as there are not many, if any, street or highway lights on most of the big island. Once the home is located it does become easier to find in the dark. The house is beautiful inside with everything you need to have a fabulous stay. Theres ceiling fans but the weather is very cool (no AC in home) and pretty damp, so it was fairly cold, (3,000-4000ft elevation), during our stay. There are heaters, a fireplace and two dehumidifiers to keep the dampness down. This really was not a big issue just information about the home. The home was very clean and Peggy also has some items such as ice chests, chairs ect that you could use during your stay. The house sits back on a Tropical Forrest lot shared with one other home but Peggy's home is in the back of the property out of sight, say 140 yards back and is extremely private from the other home on the front of the property. We had a wonderful stay and had the best time at the volcano national park and was able to travel to Hilo and Kona from her location within just a few hours or less, with Hilo being less than a hour away and Kona more like 2-3 hours away. it was rainy and in most instances it was very light and misty(There was low pressure sitting over the complete state for days while we were there)but we managed to always find the sun when we toured the rest of the island, making for a great trip. Oh the house is exactly as shown in pictures down to every detail. It really is a great place to stay and we got to see the volcano erupting because the lava floor was high and you could see the activity which was so exciting. Make sure to visit at sunset when you can see the orange glow from the volcano!
Thanks Peggy again for sharing your Beautiful home

Beautiful House Wish We Were Here Longer
Perfect intro to the Big Island. Felt like we were tucked into our own secret paradise.
Beautiful secret hideaway!
We absolutely loved our stay at Pele's Secret Garden. Being just a few minutes drive to Volcano National Park was great with the advantage of being surrounded by a rainforest. The house is beautifully decorated inside and had every amenity needed. It was perfect for our family of four. In fact, it was so perfect that my family preferred to stay at the house as opposed to exploring more of the park. The wrap around porch was so relaxing to sit on and enjoy the tranquility. Sunday morning market in Volcano Village was fun and if you're looking to grab a fast bite, there is an amazing Thai food truck called "Tuk Tuk" located in the Cooper Centre parking lot.
Thanks Peggy for sharing your beautiful home and your generous hospitality.
Sandy and family :)
Comfortable and cozy
We spent two nights at Pele's Secret Garden and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay close to Volcano National Park. It was like staying at a friend's house - everything we needed in a super comfortable setting. It was a bit chilly in the house, but the heaters helped. Tip - There isn't much for groceries in the area, so stock up before you arrive!
Located within the 'Kilauea' area, one of the most Active Volcano in the US; with two eruption and most recent located in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park of Halema'umau as the molten lava continues to reach the top of the crater floor. Pu'u Oo continues to rumble and flow, often times visible entering the Pacific Ocean. Come feel the pulse. Visit the USGS Hawaii Volcano website for current updates and webcam. http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/kilauea/
