~ About the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park ~
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, established in 1916, displays the results of 70 million years of volcanism, migration, and evolution -- processes that thrust a bare land from the sea and clothed it with complex and unique ecosystems and a distinct human culture. The park encompasses diverse environments that range from sea level to the summit of the earth's most massive volcano, Mauna Loa at 13,677 feet. Kilauea, the world's most active volcano, offers scientists insights on the birth of the Hawaiian Islands and visitors views of dramatic volcanic landscapes.
Over half of the park is designated wilderness and provides unusual hiking and camping opportunities. In recognition of its outstanding natural values, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has been honored as an International Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site.
The National Park Web site provides up-to-date information on volcanic activity, safety, schedule of park lectures/presentations, tours and hiking trails.

Thank you for a fabulous stay! things we loved about Pele's Secret Garden: being "home" from the National Park in minutes, TOTAL silence at night (and total darkness!), sleeping on the side of a volcano, the feeling of being in a fainforest/jungle but being in Hawaii, the pireplace on a chilly night, this beautifully furnished home with so many comforts and luxuries, the fresh flowers throughout the house....and so much more....
This rental is above and beyond anything I've ever enjoyed previously! The house is beautiful with all the amenities and comforts of home. We had a lot of difficulty getting to Hawaii (airline delays that had some of our party arriving more than 24+ hours later than scheduled) so it was amazing to arrive at this home where there was a bottle of wine, fresh fruit, and eggs waiting for us. It literally helped the stress melt away. You don't get this type of attention in a 5 star hotel. I will certainly stay here again if I get the chance!
This was a very pleasant and unique house, 15 minutes from Volcanos National Park. Feels Hawaiian. Everything was provided as specified, plus the owner had graciously provided some fruit and wine for our stay. It is in a secluded area, and you do have to open and close a gate when entering or leaving the house. The many windows provide ample light. Very quiet. Wake up to birds chirping.
There was a heater in the bedroom, but could not find one in the main room, which would have helped take the chill out of the cool morning. However, there is a fireplace in the main room that worked well one evening. It does take a long time to get hot water due to the system used, but it was plentiful for our needs.
The master bedroom is a little cramped (had to store a suitcase in the hallway), but not really a problem for our two night stay.
Try Kilauea Lodge for a great meal.
We recommend this property highly. We were very satisfied with this rental.
My spouse and I spent six nights here. Our experience was terrific. The house is exactly as advertised. It was lovely, private, clean and well appointed, with lots of thoughtful extra touches. We appreciated the eggs and fresh fruit for breakfast, well stocked pantry, fresh flowers, and wood and duralogs for the fireplace. For anyone who wants to grill, the grill worked beautifully. It was so peaceful and relaxing we didn't want to leave!
The house was a nice place to land after exploring Volcanoes National Park. The location is very convenient to the National Park and Volcano Village yet it is secluded. The fireplace was a nice touch -- because the nights were cooler it was comfortable to sit in front of the fire and read a book. The kitchen was well stocked (including fresh fruit and eggs) and the bottle of wine was a nice touch. My husband and I were very happy with this house as our home away from home.
Peggy is an incredible host and shares her beautiful home. She stocked the kitchen with all the breakfast basics and included delicious pineapple and papayas. The home is clean and very welcoming with beautiful flowers in every room. I also appreciated her personal touch of being available. Unfortunately there were power outages before we arrived that appeared to causes issues with wifi and the water pump. Peggy informed us about the wifi and had arrangements for it to be fixed promptly. We learned of the water pump while staying and she had it fixed by the middle of the day it broke. Both of these situations were clearly out of her control but she was so quick in resolving them. I highly recommend staying here and will defiantly revisit when I have the chance to return!
As good a vrbo as we have had. Owner was very communicative as to instructions. Home was set back, very private and quiet, 20 mins from the volcano national park, close to local restaurants, very well stocked with condiments and coffee, etc. great experience
Located within the 'Kilauea' area, one of the most Active Volcano in the US; with two eruption and most recent located in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park of Halema'umau as the molten lava continues to reach the top of the crater floor. Pu'u Oo continues to rumble and flow, often times visible entering the Pacific Ocean. Come feel the pulse.
