Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

a house with 4 bedrooms that can accommodate 9 to 10 people. 2 bathrooms -

The village of BORDES is in the piedmont Ariègeois. The house is located in the "modern" part of the medieval village. This is an old inn built by my grandfather around 1855, fully restored It is classified 4 * in furnished Tourism and all travelers

in 2017 gave it 5 *. A large living room on the ground floor, a modern kitchen opening onto the garden, a bathroom. At first 3 large bright rooms and a bathroom. In the second, a converted attic, with 4 windows and 2 skylights, 3 beds, a living room, a library, tables to write, read etc.

A garden surrounds the house .It is shaded with tall trees and it is equipped with bistro tables

chairs, relax. It is ideal for napping. Next to it, there is a patio where you can have lunch in the shade and drink the aperitif. There is also a covered terrace in case of rain or freshness. It is equipped with a large table where you can dine at 10, chairs, armchairs (5). At the back, a barn with 5 bicycles. and a foosball. In the garden there is a Weber barbecue and in the barn, charcoal and everything needed for grilling.

The Medieval village was in the 16th century a stronghold of the Reformed Religion. Protestantism is still the majority today. We still have the ruins of the razed castle on the orders of Richelieu. The medieval character of the village surprises and invites to a

out of time.

The village is divided in two by the river Arize. It is very clean. It is bathed and sins.

At the entrance of the village at 500m, the shopping center with supermarket, garage, baker, medical center, nurses' office, physiotherapist etc ...

The surroundings are very interesting with the high hills, the forest, the lakes, the hiking trails, the small villages .and a world famous site, the cave of MAS AZIL, high place of Prehistory. It is also recommended to visit the CARLA-BAYLE, homeland of PIERRE BAYLE, great philosopher of the 18th century, invested today by painters and sculptors.

We were delighted with our holiday in Les Bordes-sur-Arize. A wonderful time.

  • 5 of 5

We are very pleased to give the first review of this lovely property. The lovingly restored, comfortably furnished house is well equipped with excellent appliances and ample crockery, linen etc.

The ground floor living areas are spacious, and the three first floor bedrooms are attractively furnished with period furniture. There are 2 bathrooms, one upstairs and one down. There is also an enormous attic bedroom.

The delightful garden is well shaded and equipped with BBQ, lounges and dining settings, with five bicycles in the barn. There is a wide selection of French novels, and a few in English, with a few DVDs in English, some with French subtitles.

There is an option of a weekly cleaner, the lovely Sylvie.

The gardener attends once a week.

Les Bordes-sur-Arize is a very quiet, ancient village with the surprising bonus of a boulangerie, petrol and a comprehensive supermarket. There is ample parking in the market square opposite the villa. A pizza truck comes on Saturday lunchtime.

The Ariege area is a delight, but, of course, a car is a necessity. We enjoyed visits to Toulouse, Albi (Toulouse Lautrec Museum) Carcassonne, St Bertrand de Comminges, and Andorra. (Duty Free wall to wall shopping only – stunning scenery, but no cultural or historic interest!)

Not to be missed – Foix, Mirepoix, St Lizier, climbing Montsegur, caves at Mas d’Azil and Niaux and the beautiful town of Carla Bayle, an artists’ colony best visited at weekends when studios are open.

Obviously, the cuisine of the district is superb, and we enjoyed the meals at every restaurant we tried.

Our wonderful hosts, Paul and Nannette Pons were warm, kind, hospitable and helpful. They made our stay in their beautiful villa most enjoyable.

Wilderness. This piedmont is described by specialist magazines as one of the most authentic regions in Europe. High hills, steep cliffs,

the forest, the lakes, the small villages with their animations, the hiking trails are remarkable. The valley of the arize is winding and its sections are separated from each other by narrow defiles with in the middle of the famous cave of Mas. A quality Tourism starts to start.

The village of Bordes is very well located between the Mas d'Azil, its cave and its dolmens and the Carla Bayle city of painters and sculptors. These 3 villages were

High places of Resistance at the time of the wars of Religion and they keep stigmas. At the edges eg the castle was razed by order of Richelieu and the ruins are visible.

We have many cultural events: chamber music festival, classical music festival, jazz festival, gypsy jazz, Carla Thursday, all village festivals that bring people together and are like a sacred period.

We have the cave of Mas d'Azil, world famous, the museum of prehistory, dolmens. At Carla Bayle the street painters but also the museum PIERRE BAYLE, great philosopher of the 18th century. At the edge of the poets of the

19 th and a media library.

Many small restaurant. especially with the Garden Tomato in Daumazan and the

kiwi in the Mas.

27-hole golf course a15 kms, hiking, cycling, horse riding .piscine, tennis

we have everything nearby

The croustades of Clermont, the cheeses of the farm of Thousand in the neck of the crouzette are an institution. A little further skiing, high mountains, Andorra etc ... Children are not forgotten. Many animal parks (6 in total). Sequoia vertigo: ballad in the trees for all ages To bathe, the lakes of Gabre and Carla which are watched by masters swimmers and a very pleasant swimming pool in Mas d'Azil. .
