About the property

Villa, 5 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 5.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10-12)

We designed, built and furnished Casa de Colores in 2007, but our guests will find our home as fresh and beautiful today as when we opened. We want you to have the same wonderful experience we have every time we visit. Casa de Colores is as comfortable, convenient, safe and enjoyable as possible because some day we will live in it! In the meantime, we are delighted to share it.

Casa’s ideal location on the northern edge of Half Moon Bay, facing the Caribbean, brings fresh breezes off the sea and provides perfect access to the Bay and its renowned snorkeling experience. From our terrace, watch a blue heron catch its dinner, or walk on the beach at the Bay to check out the turtle nests. Snorkel over the abundant coral reef with its lively array of colorful tropical fish or walk five minutes from Casa to the spectacular Yal Ku Lagoon and have the snorkeling experience of your lifetime.

Our guests speak highly of the Casa de Colores holidays they’ve had – and they make return visits, surely the highest compliment we could have. Whether you are 10 people or two, you’ll feel at home and have plenty of privacy. In some of our travels in Mexico, we’ve found that some guests always get the “kids’” bedroom or the one in the back on the lower level, with no view. At Casa de Colores, every room is a winner – are you two couples with kids? No problem, we have two nearly identical master suites and the kids will be happy with their rooms, too. Grandparents? Newlyweds? Maybe they’d like the peace and quiet of their own 600 square foot casita with a roomy king-sized bed, private bath and their own living room, dining room and kitchen?

Our pool is protected from the wind by its location on the non-Caribbean side and it’s also larger and somewhat deeper than most pools in the area. The expansive conchuela-tiled terrace offers plenty of comfortable lounging space and two palapas provide shade for the sun-averse.

Our property managers Monica Estrada and Juan Antonio Huerta will welcome you and assist with any/all questions you might have -- they are available to advise or troubleshoot should the need arise. Long-time staff, Zulma and Gaby, keep Casa pristine inside and out – and if you’d like meals cooked for you, arrange with Zulma to make a fantastic molè. She’s a wonderful cook.

When you leave Casa de Colores and Akumal, our goal is that you love your visit and your experience as much as we do ours.

Have more than 10-12 in your party? Please give us a call or email-- we can provide more information on our house, and help you arrange additional housing very close to Casa de Colores.

About Shelly Rodrigues

Shelly and Eddie, and Susan and Nancy, built Casa de Colores from the ground up. We opened the doors during the 2007-08 holidays and have not been disappointed in any aspect. It was an incredible adventure. We all live and work in San Francisco -- real estate, law, and association management. We've been friends forever, and love time spent together here, there and traveling in Europe. Casa's architect, Enrique Alcaraz, lives in Akumal and has become a dear friend.

Shelly Rodrigues purchased this villa in 2008

Why Shelly Rodrigues chose Cuernavaca

We've been coming to Akumal for more than 25 years -- we love the quiet pace, warm people, and wonderful water. We've traveled throughout Mexico, and always come back to Akumal as home. Someday we plan to retire at least 1/2 time to our Casa.

What makes this villa unique

Casa de Colores has incredible views, breezes from huge sliding glass doors, the colors of the Caribbean, and so much more. The showers are tiled with turquoise pool tile, the bedrooms are each a different color. Art is a combination of local artists and our own photography (4 photo buffs) stretched on canvas. The pool is a great rectangle lap pool and the kitchen's a delight to cook in -- or not. We just completed an outdoor brick oven (perfect for pizzas). Our end of Half Moon Bay is private and quiet, but an easy 25 minute walk (or 5 minute drive or bike ride) to the 'action.'

Beyond all expectations, magical

I celebrated my 50th with family at Casa De Colores. I don't typically leave reviews, and I don't where to start. The house is gorgeous, full of whimsical beautiful art that makes you feel like you're truly staying in a home and not a generic rental. The location is perfect. We walked over to the lagoon to snorkel, rode our bikes 5 mins to main beach, the restaurants and shops. Everything is this home is special, from the fresh water left in all the bathrooms each day by the maid service included, the fresh towels left each day in cute bird formations, the breath taking views from the back of the house, it almost made me cry it was so good to be there. Gaby and Zuma prepared many lovely meals for us, what a treat in our modern busy lives to sit outside looking at the ocean while being served a beautiful home cooked meal. Ridiculously good. We will be back. I love this house, and the town, our stay was magical and will forever hold a place in our family as a very special memory.

Casa de Colores

Incredible, great, awesome, fun, relaxing, adventure, beautiful, incredible (Oh, I already said that, but it bears being said twice!). These are just a few words to describe our week stay at this fantastic home on the Caribbean. It has the perfect mix of privacy and being located near major attractions. Just steps from the door is great snorkeling, steps in the other direction is your own pool. A short walk or car ride are great restaurants, shopping and other activities.

My family (wife, two teen daughters and two of their friends) and my brother's family (wife, three sons) had a great time for rest, relaxation, bonding and adventure. The planned activities included a day at XPLOR park (zip lines, floating, swimming and rafting through cenotes, and an adventure vehicle drive through forest and cenotes), and a day with Hugo, the Green Guide (exploring Coba (Mayan ruins) and Sian Ka'an (biosphere reserve). We all loved both. They included food and beverages and each new experience filled us with awe.

We have to mention the dinner by Chef Daveed. He comes to Casa de Colores with all the groceries and treats you to a feast. He is a extremely talented chef and we didn't have him booked until our final night which was a mistake. We should have used him MORE! Next time, we'll know better and get him booked.

Finally and certainly not least, we need to echo all of the wonderful comments regarding Gaby and Zulma. The are so seamless and enhance your stay in ways that you don't realize til later.

This is a "must stay" location and we already started planning our next visit.

Great property, highly recommend.

  • 5 of 5

Such a wonderful property. Expertly maintained by local staff, Gaby and Zulma. They were so welcoming and we had a fantastic time. The house has four bedrooms in the main house and a fifth bedroom in the "casita," a smaller house on the other side of the lap pool. It's a little walk in to town, but we enjoyed the fact that it was farther away from the main tourist strip. You must have Zulma cook for you at least one night. The property manager, Monica, did a great job of meeting us when we arrived and providing recommendations on local activities and restaurants. We've rented many houses over the years and this one was definitely impressive. Excellent experience - highly recommend. For food we recommend the little lunch counter at Que Onda, La Lunita, and La Buena Vida. All very close to the house.

Incredible week at Casa de Colores

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What a fantastic week. Every day was filled with both adventure and relaxation. Having a comforting, quiet place like CDC to enjoy along with being close to so many entertainment options makes this a perfect location in the Yucatan. The local food was outstanding as were the beaches. The staff was incredible and everything worked perfectly during our stay at CDC. We would highly recommend this property. What a lovely place to spend a week!

Perfect Paradise

  • 5 of 5

All ten of us had a wonderful time during our stay at Casa de Colores. Your home is perfect. So much attention is paid to details compared to other VBRO properties we have rented. Finding and booking your property made me look like a star to the couples in our group. Thank you, thank you.

We were truly impressed with your staff. So nice and accommodating. Our group appreciated all the advance information you provided that made our planning easier. And Monica gave us many good ideas. Her brother guided us for a great day at the Biosphere.

Verbose About Our Vacation.

  • 5 of 5

We cannot say enough about our stay at Casa De Colores. We had a hard time leaving, as Huego may have needed reinforcements to physically remove us from the home. We swam in the pool everyday. We searched for crabs, coral and fish in the back of the house, which bumps up against the ocean. We enjoyed being pampered by Zulma and Gabbi. We snorkeled, explored, and ate our way though the entire week. If you stay here, make sure you have Zulma make you dinner. We recommend the chicken mole. My six year old told me he wanted this meal every night. He also told us Mexico was in his heart. You know your vacation was amazing when you look at each other on the last day and everyone has a tear in their eye. Thank you for the vacation of a lifetime. We hope to see you next year and the year after that and the year after that and the year after that and the year after that.

Nearest Airport
62 Miles

There is no street address for homes in Akumal. We are Lot 30, Casa de Colores. Akumal is halfway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum on highway 307, and Casa de Colores is the northern point of Half Moon Bay.
