Overview

About the property

4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 8

This light, airy, kid-friendly, family home with the charm of a New England summer home is an easy, 4-minute walk to Old Silver Beach. With 4 bedrooms, this Cape-Cod-style, beach house sleeps 8 and is equipped with Free WiFi, central A/C, linens & towels, cable HDTV, DVD player, high-speed-wireless Internet, modern kitchen, microwave, washer&dryer, dishwasher, disposal, and more. This beach rental has 2 bathrooms (with a tub in the master bathroom), but most prefer to bathe alfresco in the 'hot & cold' outdoor shower. The rear yard has swings for the children and a gas-grill and spacious deck for parents to relax nearby. This rent-by-owner house is set back from a quiet street and just a short walk from Old Silver Beach, which is great for children, with soft sand (no rocks), shallow tide pools to explore, toilets, showers, sailboat and paddle boat rentals, and a snack bar (but you can walk home for lunch).

Old Silver Beach Reviews By FROMMERS and FODOR'S: FROMMERS: 'Beaches most suitable for children include Old Silver Beach in Falmouth.... This is by far the most popular beach on the Upper Cape, which is why it was the first to raise its prices to $20 per day for day-trippers. On sunny summer days, cars start lining up to get into the parking lot by 9am. Why? It is the closest really good beach to the bridges. It has the widest sandy area and softest sand of the Upper Cape Beaches. It is on Buzzards Bay, so it is not too cold. And because there are no large sand bars nearby, you can get into deep water and swim fairly close to shore, instead of having to wade way out.' -- FODOR'S: 'Old Silver Beach is a long, beautiful crescent of soft white sand bordered by the Sea Crest Resort at one end. It's especially good for small children because a sandbar keeps it shallow at the southern end and creates tidal pools full of crabs and minnows. The beach has lifeguards, restrooms, showers, and a snack bar. There's a $20 fee for parking in summer.

Public & Private Beach Privileges: Our beach rental includes use of both the public and private sections of Old Silver Beach, and both are just a short stroll from this Falmouth home rental. The public beach is nearer to the snack bar and toilets, which is convenient for children and parents (or you can stroll home in 4 minutes). Beckoning just to the north, the private beach offers a more exclusive setting at 10-minute walk from the house. For a vacation rental adventure, bring your bicycles (or rent some from Corner Cycle, in Falmouth) and ride the easy-going (mostly flat and level) Shining Sea Bike Trail to Woods Hole for lunch, a visit to the 'Touch Tanks' at Woods Hole Science Aquarium (closed on Sundays, Mondays, and federal holidays), or a swim at Nobska Beach. Other summer rental activities near our vacation home at Old Silver Beach include golf, pilates, yoga, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, whale-watching, hiking, and fishing. These are just a few of the endless summer possibilities at this charming beach house rental.

Why Cyril & Leanne chose West Falmouth

This house is in a quiet, private community and an easy walk to Old Silver Beach without being in the bustle of the main road. The lot is shady, with mature oak trees, so you can relax in a cool yard after the sun of the beach. Our three boys have grown up at this lovely house, where the peaceful community allows them to play outside, independently, with other children in the neighborhood.

What makes this house unique

Our house truly is an easy 4-minute walk to Old Silver Beach. We have walked to the beach twice daily since our children were ages 5, 4, and 1.5 years old, and they still appreciate an occasional treat from the OSB Snack Bar. Everything you need is within 10-minutes drive, so once you arrive, just settle in and relax. Slip into the charm of Cape Cod with quick visits to small, nearby shoppes for local produce, fresh baked goods, and fresh fish. If you are adventurous, the house is near the Shining Sea Bike Path and close to Woods Hole and the ferry to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Old Silver Beach is a fine base for exploring the rest of Cape Cod and just an hour drive to Boston. Consider day-trips to 'Plimoth Plantation' [sic] or to Boston's Museum of Science and Children's Museum. Old Silver Beach is so close to Boston, you can commute to work in an hour while your family enjoys an extended summer vacation.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed for 2 weeks here last summer and had a wonderful time. We were very close to a beautiful beach and the backyard had a great playscape which my 3 kids loved! The deck out back was great for sitting out on summer nights. It was a perfect relaxing vacation. The owners made the whole process very easy, they gave great advice on things to do in Cape Cod, and they left travel guides for us to peruse. They had surfboards, games, water toys etc in the house, and the kitchen was well stocked with pans, cookbooks, and basic staples (salt, olive oil, condiments) so we didn't have to buy a lot of things we wouldn't use beyond our time there. I highly recommend this listing, great home and great owners!!

Quintessential Cape Cod home!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (wife, 4 small kids, plus my parents) rented the house for a week. Loved it! It's a quintessential Cape Cod home perfect for your summer vacation. The house has AC for when it gets too hot / humid outside. Walking distance to the beach (private access) and Sea Crest Resort. The pirate ship playground in the backyard was a huge hit w/ the kids, and the adults (and kids as well) enjoyed dining on the outdoor patio. We cooked and grilled quite a bit, the house is stocked w/ everything you need. Plus HDTV, WiFi, and outdoor shower, we couldn't have been happier. Cyril was also super helpful, very friendly and responsive. You won't be disappointed. Thank you Cyril & Leanne! :)

A gem!

  • 5 of 5

A well-kept, charming cape within easy walking distance to Silver Beach. Great for kids, great without kids! The outdoor shower is the best! The close proximity to Falmouth Center makes it a great place for days on the sand and evenings in town. Cyril & Leanne responded to our questions and provided helpful answers. We'd definitely stay here again!

Almost like returning to a second home

  • 5 of 5

Our family has returned to Old Silver Beach during the summer for vacation for over 20 years. This vacation home is so welcoming to several generations, that our grandchildren now look forward to sharing our vacation with us. They love the backyard ship and the deck, with the outside shower. As adults, we enjoy being pampered with fresh linens and towels and beds, that are so comfortable to sleep in.The home also provides internet service-so you can enjoy your morning coffee on the deck, while catching up on the morning news. The family brings their bikes, and all ride to the beach or walk. The beach is private to Old Silver Beach Association and is a benefit of the rental home. The water is warm and relaxing. The attention to detail in this vacation rental is what makes us return for the last 5 years.Any suggestion for individual needs is welcome. We have already started our summer vacation countdown for 2013!

great family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We had the distinct pleasure of staying at this home for a week this summer. It was truly a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The home was supremely family friendly with booster seats, pack and play, beach toys, balls, games, books, and outside play area. We didn't need to bring anything but ourselves! The beds are amazingly comfortable, the kitchen very well stocked with all the tools needed to cook anything you could want. The owners are very organized and receptive to requests and really took an interest in our stay. The private beach is an easy 10minute walk. The waves are not too big and our children even stopped to find crabs off the bridge on the walk to the beach (the nets of course were at the house as well!) We were able to ride/jog on the wonderful shining sea bike path directly from this home, it was about a mile through a beautiful trail away. This trail also happened to look over the most beautiful cranberry bogs and pond with a rope swing, absolutely enchanting! I highly recommend this home to anyone who desires an easy, relaxing family vacation. Falmouth provided a wonderful base camp for many other activities as well. Plymouth Plantation a beautiful colonial village was only 45 minutes away and the children loved learning about the Wampanoag Indians and the pilgrams, and the other way 10 miles Woods hole which was an easy ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard. We took our bikes and enjoyed the day biking there as well! There are so many wonderful family activities or just relax at the beach or in your own yard, the options are limitless! Also, in Woods Hole, just at the end of the bike path is the most amazing bakery aptly named "pie in the sky" and offers an array of fresh baked goods and smoothies. So many fun things to do, we had to save some to see next year!
