Overview

Cleone House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 5-6)

Quail Ranch is a very private, dog friendly and quiet place for those seeking comfort and serenity but also just minutes from shopping, galleries and restaurants in Fort Bragg and Mendocino. Relax on the back deck with a drink while viewing the lake, ocean and mountains. Quail Ranch is paradise!

This is a two bedroom, one and one-half bathroom, single story, beautifully decorated home in western style. There are thick, luxurious mattresses on the 2 queen beds. And there is a also a new, very comfortable sleeper chair in the living room for one person. The interior features Mexican and southwestern decor and furniture, including the oil paintings and other artifacts.

There's a dishwasher, double oven, washer/dryer, woodstove, central heat, HDTV, DVD, CD, Wireless Internet with Cable Modem . There's a 2 car, attached garage, private front courtyard, completely fenced and gated with table, chairs and chiminea. Wide furnished decks wrap around the back and side. The ranch style house sits on 3 acres of woods and gardens with a bubbly creek running through it.

This is a perfect place to bring your well behaved dog since the property is completely enclosed by fences. Dogs must be friendly with people and other dogs.

The property borders Mackerricher State Park and Lake Cleone, with a short path leading to the nature trail that winds around the lake and to the ocean beach, just a few minutes away. Quail Ranch is less than a quarter of a mile from Horse rental and boarding stables.

Lake Cleone is stocked with bass and trout and has a launch ramp for small motorless boats, i.e., rowboats, kayaks, canoes and sailboats. River otters may entertain you with their comical water antics and their love for play. Many egrets, blue heron and osprey may be observed while hiking around the beautiful nature trail that winds around the lake and to the ocean.

Mackerricher State Park boasts its pristine, uncrowded, sandy beaches, magnificent cliffs and waves of wildflowers. Shorebirds galore feed along the 10 miles of beach that stretch north of Fort Bragg to 10 Mile River. The boardwalk to Laguna Point will provide an easy walk out to observe the Harbor seals, snoozing on the rocks or feeding in the ocean at the end of the pier. If the time is right, you may also see whales during their migration. Cormorants and Oystercatchers and many other seabirds are plentiful to view.

About Nancy McCarthy

The owner purchased the property in 1995 for her private home. The house and gardens were renovated throughout the years and became known as Quail Ranch since its heavily populated with quail. Several years ago Quail Ranch became a part time vacation rental. The home is kept as it is used by the owner. Personal artifacts, photos, paintings, books, magazines remain in the house for your enjoyment.

One or two well behaved , friendly dogs are very welcome. They must be compatible with other dogs since my dogs may be on the same property.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Nancy

We are grateful we had a chance to share this magical Spot on this miraculous planet, even for a brief time. You have created a wellcoming, comforting space, from your engaging artwork to the enveloping furniture to the lovely grounds.

FOR DOG LOVERS, we recommend Ten Mile Beach up the coast a few miles and Lulu and Toulouse Wineries in Philo. Great wine, fun people and dog friendly.

And for take-out supper, we recommend Piaci in Fort Bragg. Elegant piazzas, delicious Mac and cheese. Also a great place for long walks with dog, plus a visual feast: Mendocino Botanical Gardens south of Fort Bragg. We spent half a day wandering the trails. Enjoy!!

Beautiful, peaceful time by the ocean

  • 5 of 5

Nancy was a gracious host with a beautiful home just a short walk from the ocean, and a beautiful view from the whole house. We enjoyed the wood-burning fireplace, seeing the horses, and high-quality downtime. It was great!

lovely dog-friendly home in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Quail Ranch. The house was comfortable and cozy, true to the listing photos but bigger than we expected. The kitchen was well-equipped. The outside space is beautiful and so peaceful. We loved the ocean view from the deck and the living room. Our daughter and dog loved playing on the grounds with Nancy's dogs and horses, which provided hours of entertainment for them (while we relaxed on the deck). The beach is truly a 10-minute walk from the house along the path accessible from the property. We walked our bikes along the path to access the haul road for a ride into Fort Bragg. So many things to do in the area - must do's are a visit to Pacific Star Winery and Seaside Beach at low tide. All in all, we loved our time at the house and were so grateful to have a really nice dog-friendly place to stay.

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

Nancy is the perfect hostess. Nancy, Laso and Shiloh made my daughter and I feel very welcome. We enjoyed the house, the special touches in the decor, the garden, the miniature ponies. Many cute sculptures in the garden. The path to the beach is an easy walk though I managed to miss the path back to the house twice but found my way back easily.

I have already recommended the house to friends and will definitely return myself!

Thank you, Nancy

A perfect vacation home for our North Coast getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second time at Quail Ranch, and we enjoy staying in the comfortable home, and the large, private setting next to McKerricher State Park. The house is spacious and airy, with a great view of Lake Cleone and the ocean.

Our requirements for our Ft. Bragg vacation are 1) a short walk to the beach, 2) a great kitchen for cooking our own meals, 3) a clean, well appointed home, and 4) proximity to all of hiking and biking around Ft. Bragg . Quail Ranch has it all, plus, Nancy is a relaxed and welcoming host.

We are happy to have found Quail Ranch on VRBO, and look forward to our stay there during our annual spring trips to Ft. Bragg.
