La Passoniere. Perfect for couples. Peace and quiet in idyllic rural France

Bedrooms 1
Space 592 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Spacious converted barn on the Normandy/Pays de la Loire border.

La Passoniere is the ideal destination for individuals or couples who prefer quality, secluded and peaceful accommodation with all the amenities for that special get-away-from-it-all holiday. No neighbours and no worries. Just the occasional sounds of Farmer Gilles on his tractor and birdsong in the mature, well-kept garden. There’s ample space for two to relax in comfort. The ground floor has a large living room under an open ‘cathedral’ ceiling with a wood-burning fire (wood at cost) and fully-equipped kitchen area. The former hayloft has a bedroom and an enclosed shower room (with modern hydro-jet shower) and toilet. The lounge area has a comfortable two-seater settee and a single armchair, coffee tables, English satellite TV and radio and DVD/CD player. The kitchen area has a gas cooker, fridge and microwave and a comfortable table for two. La Passonière stands at the end of a country lane – so no passing traffic to disturb those wine-induced slumbers!

Everything you need to relax and unwind in tranquil setting a real credit to both of the owners. Tess makes a very big impression on you as well. Mick & Jane are there to advise over and above what they need to do nothing to much bother. Highly recommend we will be going back

Very lovely countryside. Friendly owners and locals. Accomodation very good.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at "La Passoniere" for a good week, early august 2016.

The owners, Jane and Mick Austin, are ever so friendly people. Ready to help you out finding your way around, and give any advice on where to find places, that might be of interest to you. The house is a lovely traditional farmhouse, that has been renovatet to good standard, without the inherent charm getting lost.

We especially were impressed with the countryside in which the property is situated. Smal roads, villages and green hills, trees, and green pastures with grasing cattle. We would love to come back.

Owner's Response: Many thanks Hasse and Line for the great review. We try to make our guests feel welcome and comfortable and we're glad we succeeded with you. It was a pleasure to meet you both and we look forward to perhaps seeing you both again if you ever return to this beautiful part of rural France. We were pleased your English was so much better than our Danish! Tess send you her best big grin.

Perfect private retreat for some R&R

  • 5 of 5

We needed somewhere quiet and relaxed where we could just rest, get some fresh air and walks, enjoy French cuisine and explore the locality at our leisure. We found just that at Gite for Two. Our hosts were a lovely couple, Jane and Mick, with their adorable dog, Tess. We had a lovely time. The gite was well-equipped, spotless and perfect for two. Our stay was in Autumn, when the leaves were falling, our favourite time of year, but I imagine you get to see the place in its prime in Summer, when everything is in full bloom. We wish Jane and Mick a successful season.

Owner's Response: Bonjour to you both. Many thanks for your kind review, we're so glad you enjoyed your time with us here at La Passoniere. Jane is very proud of her gite and she works hard to make it everything you would wish for. The weather was pretty good for your stay and we're glad you were able to enjoy it on your days out exploring. We hope to see you both again some day. Best wishes from both of us .... and big, wet kisses from Tess!

Cozy cottage in idyllic surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Jane and Mick were both very welcoming, helpful and informative. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and was perfect for our stay. Mick and Jane's spaniel, Tess, was adorable and was there to greet us every day,

The area was very pretty with lots to see and do. Trips to Bagnoles and Mayenne were good for enjoying pretty old towns with lots of history. Fougeres, Lassey and Carrouge for castles and beautiful scenery. Mont St Michel and St Malo cater more for tourists who are quite happy to, literally, rub shoulders with a great many others.

Local restaurants offer very good value for money with their lunchtime formulas. Some provide a choice of meal, others offer one or two choices, but the quality is good. Keep in mind that in some restaurants that wine and cider is included in the price of the meal - exceptional value!

We would not only recommend La Passoniere to other travellers, but we hope to return in the not to distant future.

Idyllic countryside retreat

  • 5 of 5

We booked a week in france to not only relax and get away from it all, but also to celebrate our pearl wedding anniversary. We managed to both in this idyllic spot in rural France. The owners Jane and Mick were very friendly and helpful, full of information and knowledge about the area, recommending places to visit and things to do.

We are not particuarly dog people (having two cats ourselves), but you cannot help but fall in love with Tess the springer spaniel who is extremely well behaved and very friendly.

Jane is obviously very proud of her gite, as she has thoughtfully kitted it out with everything you need and more. If you read all the fiction books, information leaflets and cookery books you would have to book in for at least a year, and that's not to mention the dvd's and board games etc.

Our car exhaust went on our second day there and Mick very kindly took us to the local garage and used his best French, charm and persuasion to get them to fix it for us that day. He also offered to book us a table at a local top class, but very reasonably priced restaurant, to celebrate our actual anniversary (but not on Mondays because everywhere is closed!). We can highly recommend that for a special occasion.

All in all we found the gite to be very quiet, comfortable and self contained. It didn't take us long to settle in and make ourselves at home. If there is one thing we would recommend you do - make sure you take or buy a couple of pounds of bacon, cook it for breakfast with the window open and watch Mick and Tess drool as the smell wafts their way on the early morning dog walk!!

La Passoniere

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay in this lovely, cosy cottage in spite of the cool (for folks from Arizona) weather. The accommodation was perfect for the two of us, very well-maintained and comfortable, with everything we could possibly need. There were plenty of good books, DVDs, and CDs for the rainy days. The hosts, Jane and Mick (and Tess the springer spaniel) were charming and helpful. The wood burner ensured warmth on cool days and the garden was perfect for al fresco meals. We enjoyed the food from the local supermarkets and the fresh produce at the open air markets. The surrounding countryside was very pretty with luscious green fields and contented cows. A perfect holiday spot for peace and serenity.

Rolling Normandy countryside, pretty towns and villages nestling in forests or alongside gently meandering rivers – La Passonière is surrounded by the best of French countryside. The Normandy landing beaches are 90 minutes drive away. 2009 was the 65th anniversary of the landings and there is always plenty going on to commemorate the occasion. Beautiful Bayeux is just over an hour’s drive away, with the 70-metre long tapestry depicting how William the Conqueror invaded England and defeated King Harold. Also about an hour away is the stunning Mont St Michel, one of France’s best-known landmarks, which in 2009 celebrated its 1300th birthday. Friendly bars and restaurants offer excellent – and cheap – meals and if you've over-indulged a little why not work it all off with a round of golf or a spot of horse riding or cycling? La Passonière is your French retreat. A place where you can relax and unwind one day and explore the beautiful surrounding area the next.
