Overview

About the property

Spacious converted barn on the Normandy/Pays de la Loire border.

La Passoniere is the ideal destination for individuals or couples who prefer quality, secluded and peaceful accommodation with all the amenities for that special get-away-from-it-all holiday. No neighbours and no worries. Just the occasional sounds of Farmer Gilles on his tractor and birdsong in the mature, well-kept garden. There’s ample space for two to relax in comfort. The ground floor has a large living room under an open ‘cathedral’ ceiling with a wood-burning fire (wood at cost) and fully-equipped kitchen area. The former hayloft has a bedroom and an enclosed shower room (with modern hydro-jet shower) and toilet. The lounge area has a comfortable two-seater settee and a single armchair, coffee tables, English satellite TV and radio and DVD/CD player. The kitchen area has a gas cooker, fridge and microwave and a comfortable table for two. La Passonière stands at the end of a country lane – so no passing traffic to disturb those wine-induced slumbers!

La Passoniere

  • 4 of 5

La Passoniere's garden was wonderful- whatever the time of the day you could catch the sun in either the front or the back. It hummed with wildlife. Jane, who lives in the attached house, was a generous host, leaving juice, milk, water, wine and chocolates for us but also sharing her garden's produce which we greatly appreciated. The towel allocation was very generous.

Relaxing

We had a very relaxing stay at La Passonaire. The owners could not have been more helpful and the facilities were excellent . It is a great getaway for couples. Jane and Mick are not invasive but are there if you have a problem or need advice. Perfect.xx

Good value

  • 3 of 5

Beautiful setting - the garden was delightful. The gite would probably suit a younger or more agile couple better than us. The stairs are of the mountain goat variety and difficult for taking up heavy luggage. The sitting area was very comfortable and the English TV a godsend as the evening weather was not too good. We like to cook in the evening after a long day out and I found the kitchen a bit limiting; I can't imagine the fridge would be adequate in summer.

Michael and Jane were very attentive hosts with lots of little things to welcome you, including a very acceptable bottle!

Quaint, true to the French folk living in the country.

  • 4 of 5

The house and property are a great example of living in a old country home. The walls are stone, the fire is going as you walk in, the couches and furniture are true to the type of home it is. The bedroom is up in the loft... so beautifully set. There is lot of room for your things and the home is equipped with everything you might need, and more! There is a lovely garden to enjoy and to relax in... chairs are available throughout the gardens. You are in the middle of regular life... no amusement parks, no shopping malls... just nice small roads and good country living!

Magnificent

  • 5 of 5

Everything you need to relax and unwind in tranquil setting a real credit to both of the owners. Tess makes a very big impression on you as well. Mick & Jane are there to advise over and above what they need to do nothing to much bother. Highly recommend we will be going back

Rolling Normandy countryside, pretty towns and villages nestling in forests or alongside gently meandering rivers – La Passonière is surrounded by the best of French countryside. The Normandy landing beaches are 90 minutes drive away. 2009 was the 65th anniversary of the landings and there is always plenty going on to commemorate the occasion. Beautiful Bayeux is just over an hour’s drive away, with the 70-metre long tapestry depicting how William the Conqueror invaded England and defeated King Harold. Also about an hour away is the stunning Mont St Michel, one of France’s best-known landmarks, which in 2009 celebrated its 1300th birthday. Friendly bars and restaurants offer excellent – and cheap – meals and if you've over-indulged a little why not work it all off with a round of golf or a spot of horse riding or cycling? La Passonière is your French retreat. A place where you can relax and unwind one day and explore the beautiful surrounding area the next.
