About Jill (daily contact) and Joan
I grew up in Kansas City, KS, raised my children in Kansas and moved here in 2002 while obtaining my PhD in English. I teach at St. Cloud State and Joan works for the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls and gives music lessons. We love our home and land, especially the peace that seems to emanate from it--so many of our guests comment on that as well.
Jill (daily contact) and Joan purchased this House in 2011
Why Jill (daily contact) and Joan chose Burtrum
We built the cottage in 2011 as a guest cottage. It's since served as Joan's music studio and now this. It has lots of interesting touches as well as a cozy, open feel. The large deck offers a roomy place to entertain and/or relax. The seating under the covered porch and the outdoor breakfast nook offer a great place for morning coffee or relaxing throughout the day.
What makes this House unique
It offers privacy without isolation. Street access to small town grocery, gas station and bar/grill as well as restaurant (opening January 2019) is just off our property. Our residence, while also on property, is a comfortable distance away to allow us to answer your needs quickly but not be invasive. Our 2-acre property is fenced, allowing all but the smallest dogs the opportunity to run off leash. Our 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 5 chickens have been our best ambassadors! Most of our guests comment in our guest book how much they enjoyed them. We offer fresh eggs to our guests as well!

Relaxing and peaceful
One of a kind place for enjoying quite time or for hosting a get together the patio is big and spacious, the loft is beautiful and romantic for evening enjoyment, definitely a place I would recommend.
We had a great time at this quaint little cottage. Jill and Joan were great hosts and very welcoming . We loved the fresh eggs from the chickens and Willa and Claire (the dogs ) were so cute too ! Thanks again
Perfectly and peacefully stimulating property!
These lovely ladies quite obviously poured their whole hearts and beautiful souls into every inch of their property and leave no stone unturned when it comes to hospitality! From the minute we arrived at their little slice of paradise- the sights, sounds, smells, all the sensations, were so pleasantly stimulated and unbelievably inviting! We cannot wait to return and experience what another season (and maybe even the treehouse) have to offer! ❤❤❤
Side note, They were kind enough to allow us to take a peek in the treehouse, (aka the stargazer rental, or something along those lines,) during our stay, and I can honestly say I'd be nothing short of surprised if you too don't fall in love with it or the cottage during your stay!
I'll end with a big 'ole thank you to Jill & Joan for sharing your home and it's natural healing properties with the rest of us! :)
Too short--but oh, so sweet!
Long before there was such a thing as the concept of the "tiny house", these two innovative and brainy women, Jill and Joan, came up with the concept. Their gorgeous semi-pasture, half-wooded acres gave them plenty of room to try one out--and so they did--a charming loft cottage--built by skilled craftsmen who grown up in the old traditions of fine workmanship and "use what you have". This is a place for thinkers, readers, planners on their way to or from great adventures, those who need days to decompress, a place to unwind, or bike from or to. If you have a well-behaved dog, this is for you--it was perfect for our. Our advice: don't bring too much stuff or try to fit too many people inside. For us, two was perfect. And Jill and Joan...we want to know them much better.
Such a nice place.
Cute property with amazing hosts! They were so accommodating and have the nicest pets!
