Imagine views of a natural wooded pond and the ocean from the same marvelous place... this is a nature lover's dream! Pondsea Place is located in the back shore area of Peaks Island with 300 feet waterfront on Great Trout Pond and 100 yards from the seashore.
You can hear the ocean and smell the salt air from this beautiful cedar shingle home. There is a large 16 by 30 foot deck that overlooks the pond and a smaller deck that looks toward the ocean. The house is 2400 square feet with four bedrooms and two large bathrooms each with a jacuzzi tub/shower. There are two large indoor living areas with cathedral ceilings. The kitchen has many gourmet kitchen items and a large Weber gas outdoor grill. The kitchen counters are a lovely green marble and the floors are maple hardwood and terra cotta tiles through out. The rooms are spacious and airy with large windows. It is located on two and half acres so there is plenty of room for all to have a great time. Near the ocean so bugs are no problem.

We bought the 2.5 acres and designed and built this waterfront home in 2002. We designed it specifically for groups between 8 to 15 people. We wanted to host friends and family and all have a good time. We love hosting vacation renters in our home and invite you to join in our love of Peaks Island and Pondsea Place. Many wonderful events have taken place here over the years: wedding, anniversary celebrations, reunions of several types, sacred ceremonies and simple family fun!
We get wonderful feedback from our renters and we welcome you to make coming to Pondsea Place part of your Peaks Island tradition.
Carolyn Gill purchased this house in 2002
We love nature: trees, water and birds. This home provides our family and our guests with all of those features. We love being able to be outdoors on the deck but feeling connected to those who are nearby inside the house. We love being able to feel like we are outdoors from inside because of the wall of palladian windows and French doors.
Open and airy with wonderful water views from most rooms. Conducive to both gathering for joyful together times; and perfect for private hideaway places for those who need quiet time.
My family has been going to Peaks Island for generations and we have so many wonderful memories. This year I wanted all of my family to be together in one house so I rented Pondsea Place mostly because of the size. It was beyond my expectations. My kids and I stayed the whole week and were able to accommodate all the other family and friends that came to visit us quite comfortably. The layout of the house is ideal, allowing plenty of space to all be together or find a little peace and quiet for yourself. The setting is beautiful and the location is perfect. From the deck we could see the pond below and the ocean beyond, I don’t know another spot on the island that offers this view. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a large, clean beautiful home for their vacation.
Everything worked and the place was as advertised. No surprises at all. Ms. Gil is always available bt text and is very responsive to any concerns. Highly recommend Pond Sea
We spent a long weekend and Pondsea was perfect for our family. We had 6 adults and 2 kids and it was quite spacious. Love the beams and high ceiling and the loft was a get away to watch TV if needed.
The outside desk is huge and where we spent most time. The ocean is a few steps away and our 4 year old grandson spent hours building with rocks.
The owner was attentive from my first inquiry and stayed involved all through the process. I even had some questions on arrival and had response usually within minutes!
My only comment is that some of the furniture is showing some wear.
There were numerous beds and configurations for sleeping that we actually had more than we used (unusual for us). Beds were comfortable.
Kitchen was very well equipped and nice grill on deck.
We loved the island and had dinner at both cockeyed gull and the inn.
The open design, deck, accommodations and sea air at Pondsea made for a wonderful weekend.
Thank you Carolyn
The house is set up nicely to entertain. Plenty of room for a large group to stay a few nights. Great place!
My extended family (10 adults and 1 child) spent an amazing week at this beautiful property. The location is extremely serene and peaceful and was great for everyone to disconnect from their electronics and reconnect with each other at our family reunion. It helped that there is very minimal cell phone connection! The seashore is a two minute walk down the street and we went out several times at night to see the stars and Milky Way!
We rented bikes for the majority of our time on Island and it's about a five to 10 minute ride into town or to the beach on greenwood street. We found the grocery store well-stocked and we used the ferry a couple of times throughout the week to go into Portland with no issue.
The house was rather expansive for 10 individuals and we didn't run into any problems sleeping everyone. One note because you are near the seashore everything can get rather damp and the rooms in the lowest level are damper than the rest of the house.
The kitchen was perfectly outfitted with everything we needed and the fridge handled a ton of food although the ice maker struggled to keep up with us.
If you are a bird watcher or have a larger family this is the house for you. We had a great time and are looking forward to our next reunion in two years!
What a magnificent home! We will all remember this trip for the rest of our lives as we logged some great conversation and laughs amidst the beautiful Peak's Osland backdrop. Thanks to Carolyn!
Our experience at Peaks was perfect - we never left the island and rarely used our car (mostly strollers for children or bikes). We had a total of 5 small children and 8 adults in our group and there was plenty of room for all in the cabin. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies and we mostly ate in. The house itself was very nice - plenty of space for children to spread out and play games etc. It would be even better if the downstairs could get more of a breeze w/ screen doors. the location was pretty good - near the fun indian trails which were perfect for children to hike and also close to town and our favorite beach on Greenwood St. Next time I may choose a house a bit closer to the ocean to be able to hear the water and also being near a pond there were definitely a good number of mosquitos to deal with, but nothing extreme. I would definitely recommend this house if you want something affordable and not super luxurious to use as a home base for a fun week on peak's.
