The villa was originally built as a jungle guest house by my uncle. We have enlarged the hiking trail network and gardens and converted the property to a vacation rental. I still have full time work in Florida but enjoy as much time off as I can get in the jungles of Costa Rica.
Stephen purchased this Villa in 2007
Why Stephen chose San José Province
Our location is key - a secluded tropical mountain setting yet close to the ocean and town. The area is secure and access is easy. In addition, the temperature is moderate here at the higher altitude and the variety of wildlife is amazing.

Amazing reunion week at the Villa
Five families rented the villa for a mini college reunion, in late July. We were 9 adults and 10 children ages 7-14. I can honestly say that every single person had a fantastic time! From the time we arrived and were greeted by Pablo, to the day we left, we felt like this was our second home. The staff is so kind and accommodating, helping us out with whatever we needed - from the big things like arranging transportation and activities, to the little things like hooking up a movie or getting a special dessert for the kids. Pablo in particular had so much patience with us as we tried to figure out what we wanted to do and the best way to do it. Getting consensus from 19 people is not easy and he always made sure we had all the options and information available.
The house and surrounding area is magical. The kids spent hours in the pool and spotting reptiles, insects and birds around the property. The common central area is a great space where we could all hang out and catch up. We even watched a strong, (loud!) rainy-season storm come over the mountains from the comfort of the open-air living area. Definitely do the hike to the waterfall on the property, and try to get up early to do some bird-watching.
Lastly, this review would not be complete without commending the cooking staff. Some of our group went deep-sea fishing one day and had great success, and Patricia prepared the fish for 2 days straight for us. Even the non-fish eaters loved it. Her meals, whether cooking from ingredients we provided or having her and her staff do it all, were excellent and totally worth the investment. It was so nice to not have to prepare meals after a long day of hiking or sightseeing.
Finally, some tips. The drive into the Villa is not for the faint of heart. You definitely need a 4-wheel drive to manage the gravel and hills, and I would not recommend doing it in the dark. However, we heard horror stories before we left about driving in Costa Rica, but overall the main roads and traffic were fine (though we were there in off-season). Also, we were a little under-prepared for the amount of cash (US dollars) on hand we needed, so bring more than you think you need.
This was the first trip for all of us to Costa Rica, but it won’t be our last! We hope to come back to the Villa soon! We highly recommend it!
Christine, Thanks for your comments. I'm thrilled to hear that your group had such great time at the property and enjoyed the local adventures and our plethora of wildlife. Indeed Pablo, Patricia and the rest of the staff are a great asset and they certainly enjoyed being there to look after your group. I'm glad to hear that you were able to enjoy the simple pleasure of watching the storm come in and listen to the rain come down. I look forward to the Green Season for just that afternoon chill out opportunity. Hope to have you back again. Pura Vida! Stephen
Our week family vacation
We are a family of 20 with people from 3-80 years old. We had a fantastic week. The personnel at the Villa is excellent and willing to help in every way possible. We were pampered by everybody, specially Pablo and Patricia. Highly recommend for families
A breathtaking gem in the jungle!
After visiting Costa Rica’s Puntarenas province on prior vacations, the best experience has been our recent visit to Villa Los Aires in the Dominical / San Isidro area of Puntarenas. My family began exploring options for a family vacation for 10 and we landed at Villa Los Aires. While the photos are breathtaking on their own, the actual experience was even more so. The villa itself was extremely spacious to accommodate our family of 10 as well as providing endless options each day. Whether we wanted to sit poolside sipping on a cocktail to take in the incredible views or watch for a number of toucans or spot a howler monkey or two. When we wanted a bit more than taking in the sights, we ventured on a number of hikes exploring the 60+ acres – including a number of waterfalls on the property.
We highly recommend taking advantage of the resources offered at Villa Los Aires. For instance, we enjoyed the cooking services provided by Patricia and her team each night. She is an amazing cook and she certainly did not disappoint. She prepared a number of dishes so we can experience the Costa Rican cuisine, which had us wanting more.
The concierge services provided by Pablo are certainly invaluable. Pablo ensured we were taken care of in every respect throughout our entire stay. He arranged for a number of the family members to enjoy massages right on the property as well as horseback riding exploring the property and other excursions during our stay.
Needless to say, we will be returning to Villa Los Aires for future travels as it is undeniably one of the best experiences which allowed us to kick back, relax and really enjoy our vacation.
Wonderful place that is worth the effort
We just spent 10 days at the Villa, and we wish we could go right back. We had a group of 23 people, and we found this home to be just about perfect for us. We had to use the rooms in the garden house as well as the main house, and I would recommend no more than two people per room as they are quite a bit smaller than the rooms in the main house. When we rented this home, we knew it came with a staff, but we had no idea the level of service that this wonderful group of people would provide us. We were totally spoiled! Pablo, Rigo, Jeffrey, and all are always available and will help you out in any way they can. Patricia came and cooked for us a couple of times, and this was worth every last penny. Her tres leche is AMAZING! We also cooked in a few nights, which was fun as the kitchen is well-stocked. It is not a traditional "American" style kitchen, though, and is more reminiscent of a restaurant kitchen, but that was not a problem to us. Make sure you take the time to get to know Pablo and also hike on the property grounds. There is a gorgeous waterfall only 10 minutes away. We look forward to staying here again. The location is fairly remote, but this was actually great for us. Being accessible to the town of San Isidro was a great convenience for us, and Pablo kindly showed us around the non-touristy town. We could be in Dominical in about 30 minutes, and the drive is stunning the entire way. We liked feeling more like we were in a typical Costa Rican neighborhood rather than right in the midst of a tourist area. There was just nothing not to love about this place! Total Pura Vida!
Thanks Chris and Becky for your kind words. I am glad that the staff took great care of you and that your big group enjoyed their stay. Our remote location presents a few challenges but most of our guests enjoy the tranquil jungle location and as you point out - being away from the crowded tourist areas and just close enough to enjoy the more typical town of SanIsidro. The story on the kitchen is that my uncle who originally designed the house intended to run a hotel / restaurant on site. Thus the commercial style kitchen. Not really pretty but the stainless steel is easy to keep clean and sanitary and is very functional for large groups. We sure hope to have you back again. Tres Leches cake on us! Stephen
The accommodations and service were wonderful! The setting is beautiful and located close to area attractions. Waterfalls, hiking trails, and lots of bird sightings right on the property.
Hey Brian and Neil, Thanks for joining us at the property again. It was a great pleasure to meet your group. It was a pleasure for Pablo and the staff to look after you during your stay.
I'm glad to hear that there were plenty of bird sightings and I know your group thought the insect sightings were amazing as well.
I hope you all can join us again next year.
Pura Vida! Stephen
Go here, ASAP
Pablo and his crew provide the highest service for your group. This place is magical. We had a sunset wedding overlooking the mountains here with friends and family. Best place I’ve ever stayed in my 31 years of international travel. Can’t say enough about how relaxing and amazing this place is. I had so much love and gratitude for this special place!! Would go back again and again. Pablo takes care of EVERYTHING. Trust in Pablo. Also the food was unbelievably delicious and worth it. Hire the cook Patricia and relax into beautiful Costa Rica!
Wonderful tranquil setting high in the mountains above Dominical, in Caña Blanca, yet only 12 km to the ocean. The villa is fully staffed with daily concierge, housekeeping, maintance, evening waiter and security. The house sits on a 66 acre private reserve of tropical forest with incredible 360 degree jungle and valley views and an abundance of wildlife and natural water formations on the property. An Eco-friendly dream scape with lots of hiking, swimming and nature watching opportunities. Easy access to Nauyaca Waterfalls, the highest and grandest waterfalls in the Southern Pacific Zone of CR, horseback riding, and the beaches/surfing at Dominical. Just 30 minutes from San Isidro de El General, a pleasant small city with full services.
Other Activities: Jungle hiking, waterfall repelling, rock climbing, ocean kayaking, canopy ziplines
