Overview

About the property

Wonderful Getaway for Two People With Private Pool and Garden With a Great View.

Step into Les Hirondelles and you will immediately sense the tasteful mix of old and new that the owners of properties 6396 and 99874 have created with this their latest house.

Respect has been paid to original features whilst the work of local artisans and use of Farrow and Ball paints and traditional lime-washes have enhanced the freshness and appeal of this unique building.

The living room has a traditional flagstone floor and stone fireplace, painted beams, and an adjoining old fromagerie now clad in wood making an ideal spot for catching up on emails with a desk and internet access. One window looks onto the woods of the neighbouring château whilst the other looks towards the garden. The bathroom is on this level and contains a large walk in shower with handmade Provençal tiles. Just off the living room is a fully equipped kitchen with access to the garden, terrace and swimming pool. An oak staircase leads up to the mezzanine area and double bedroom

which is light and airy with magnificent views of the garden and the Auxois countryside.

The house is detached and has private off-road parking; there is a separate room with a washing machine, dryer and an extra fridge for all those cold drinks! The heat exchange system gives the luxury of warmth in the winter and air conditioning in the summer.

About Bill & Jenny

We both came to France one summer for a few weeks work and never looked back! We threw away office work in exchange for a life outdoors in one of the prime regions of Europe. Whilst there are many great regions to visit, it's always wonderful to return to Burgundy.

Bill & Jenny purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Bill & Jenny chose Braux

A very rare find for just two people. If we didn't have children and dogs, we'd live here ourselves!

What makes this cottage unique

A great house with a private pool and garden yet having wonderful views as well.

Kleinod zum Entschleunigen

  • 5 of 5

Exceptionally comfortable and very well equipped

  • 5 of 5

Ideal spot for walking and cycling. Wreath was too cold for using the pool area but was well laid out , clean and were disappointed that weather prevented us trying out the wave function.

Perfect peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

The description and photographs do not do this property justice! Completely private, immaculately restored and everything you could possibly think you may need is provided. Bill and Jenny very helpfully provided a full list of information to help you enjoy your stay without encroaching on your stay. Perfect for what my husband and I were looking for in a holiday and would recommend this property for couples looking to get away from it all! Fabulous!

Perfect get away

  • 5 of 5

If you want to get away from it all then look no further than this property. It is private and secluded and if more than 2 cars past your front door a day I will be surprised .

Everything you need for a perfect stay is catered for. The shower is fantastic, the kitchen well equipped and even English tv channels should you want a quiet night in front of the telly. There are books and visitors maps, Bill and Jenny have truly thought of everything.

The pool is a welcome fool down as the sun shines all day around the pool, a real sun trap.

We live in London and this is the perfect get away, so perfect we have already booked for next year

Book now, you won't be disappointed

Perfect for two

  • 5 of 5

This gite has been restored to a very high standard and is perfect for two. The kitchen is very well equipped and the outside area is delightful. We were fortunate enough to have very good weather and made full use of the pool and had most of our meals outdoors. Would highly recommend this gite.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a fantastic week in this beautifully presented and equipped cottage. The setting is fantastic - completely private with a lovely pool that we used every day. I would recommend this property wholeheartedly - it's very unusual to find such a property for 2 - very romantic! The owners are really friendly and we're looking forward to going back.

Braux has about 200 inhabitants and is situated at an altitude of 340 metres just outside the Morvan natural park in the beautiful Auxois region of Burgundy. It’s the perfect place to relax or be active with walking, biking, rock climbing, golf and numerous visits to local sights.....

the village sits on the 120 km Bibracte hiking trail which runs from Alésia to Mont Beuvray, sections of which can easily be walked from the house by following the blue and yellow markers. The village also lies on the Canal de Bourgogne - a waterway which provides the vital link between the English channel and the Mediterranean; alongside the canal the new cycle path provides endless opportunities for exploring - maybe pedal the full 75 kms through the stunning Ouche valley to Dijon or simply bike a short way to the picturesque village of Marigny-le-Cahouet.

The nearest restaurant and café to the house is 4kms away in Pont Royal (accessible along the canal tow path) - get there early as the simple but good food attracts local artisans like bees to a honey pot after midday.

The undiscovered medieval gem of Semur-en-Auxois is a 10 minutes drive away and provides plenty of choice for bars, restaurants & shops.

Nearby places of interest include: Historical sites (13th C Abbaye de Fontenay, Vézelay Basilica, Hospice de Beaune); Chateaux (Commarin, Epoisses, Ancy-le-Franc, Bussy-Rabutin); Medieval towns & villages (Semur-en-Auxois, Flavigny, Châteauneuf-en-Auxois) ; Markets & shopping (Dijon, Beaune, Chablis, Noyers); Morvan National Park, golf & tennis nearby. 5 hour drive from Calais or Zeebrugge. 1 hour TGV train to Paris or Euro Disney direct from Montbard (30 minutes from the house).

PLEASE NOTE: Currently there are no flights from the UK to the nearest airport of Dole. Other airports to consider with their approximate driving times to the house are:

Paris Orly: 2 hrs 10 mins

Lyon: 2 hrs 15 mins

Paris CDG: 2 hrs 45 mins

Geneva: 2 hrs 50 mins

Basel-Mulhouse: 2 hrs 50 mins.
