Musso is a small town in the Province of Como in the Italian region Lombardy. It is situated in a pretty inlet on the western shore of the lake. The town has the benefit of both a tunnel and a bypass, therefore greatly reducing the flow of traffic through the town itself and creating more peaceful surroundings.
In Roman times, white marble was mined from the local quarries and this practise was continued until a few decades ago. The Cathedral in Como and the columns of San Lorenzo in Milan are just some of the buildings where this marble has been used in the construction.
This picturesque village offers every amenity. It has a grocery shop and a bakery and Italian cuisine can be sampled in the local cafes and restaurants. A lovely swimming pool has recently been constructed in nearby Menaggio and water sports, golf, skiing and hiking are all available close by.
One of the main attractions in Musso in the Castle, which dates back to the fourteenth century and was used as a fortress by Gian Giacomo De'Medici, De'Medici was brother of Pope Pius IV and was a polarizing member of this village, if you are a history buff then Musso is a great place to visit. The Church of San Biagio is of the late Romanesque period. It was extended in the 16th century and many additions to the main structure took place at that time.
The Garden of the Blackbird - This is a unique example of an exotic garden which however has been abandoned for numerous years. It was obtained by the noble Manzi in 1858 but sadly had a short life. It flaunted century plants, palm trees, Indian fig trees, camellias, sequoias; all this surrounded by romantic bridges, grottos, gorges and staggering paths overhanging the waters of the lake. The exploration of this garden is almost impossible and undoubtedly dangerous. At the most it can be observed from above St. Eufemia.
The residence is situated in the pretty lakefront village of Musso, located just 15 minutes from the famous resort town of Menaggio which guests can easily reach by the frequent bus service from the village. Just 10 minutes away guests can reach the lakefront town of Cremia with its pretty harbour, lakefront restaurants, shingle beach and Water sports club where wind surfing kite surfing can be enjoyed.
The picturesque resort town of Menaggio enjoys pretty cafe-lined piazzas, an idyllic promenade with family Lido and a wide variety of shops, restaurants, supermarkets, delicatessens and activities, which include cycling, hiking, professional golf, mini-golf, tennis, swimming, canoeing, boat hire, chartered yacht service and quad bike tours.

This beautiful lake region of Italy is not the best for skiing as you may imagine, despite its scenery, crisp air and near perfect visibilty and mountains capped in winter snow. It does however have Skiing opportunities at local resorts for a day out.
There is a small ski area on Mt. Lema, not more than 10 km from Lugano, but you have to be lucky to have enough snow for skiing. In Ticino, the local Swiss Canton, the best places to ski are probably either San Bernardino (south of the pass of the same name) or Airolo (south of Gotthard pass). Both are reachable in about 1 hour by car across the Swiss border.
There are direct trains to Airolo as well from Lugano and hence from Italian Stations. To S. Bernardino there is only a bus connection. For more snow try Andermatt (on the north side of Gotthard pass) which has normally good snow conditions and a good choice of runs.
The closest major ski resorts are St. Moritz and Madesimo toward the Splugen Pass which is approx.100km.
