About Ralph

Hi. My name is Ralph. I'm the owner/builder/manager/gardener/decorator & cleaner of this home. By now, over 2,000 people... all sharing a common love for this Big Island, have enjoyed their Stayinkona under this roof . What a privilege to have made friends with so many of you. From Ironmen to an 'Ultrawoman', Ausie paddlers, 'Guamish' divers, Apple Event staggers, extended families, numerous regulars, wedding couples, and so much more. One of the treats of traveling is meeting new people. For me there's been a happy reverse to this in meeting you, the honored travelers & guests to this beautiful place.

A long story tells how this place came to be. Not many know it but I live thankful for the story ... and thankful to you who decide to make your stay with us.

Why Ralph chose Kona Coast

In a word - 'perfect location'. So quiet and comfortable. Awesome view of town and close to town without the noise and heat. Just the right spot to all points north, south, east, or west. Like a recent guest said, 'perfect for kids - without the resort pull on them ... made getting out and about to see the rest of the Island easy'.

'Couldn't have been better'.

What makes this house unique

While this home gives everyone their space (and does so afford-ably), it tends to a sharing of the whole space. Be it extended family or other group, it is the increase in numbers that results in such a good time. Stayinkona is a 'THE MORE THE MERRIER' (and affordable) PLACE. Let us know ahead of time and we'll set up a tent for even larger groups :-)

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much for letting us share in the beauty of your home, it was truly awesome.

Go again!

  • 5 of 5

we had a very nice stay at this property on a very quick turn around trip we had to make to the island. although our group went from 16 people down to 9 people, due to travel constraints, it was worth every penny. i will mention that, if you note in the property photo you see the slope on the side of the the house...it is a little steep and the entrance is on that lower level, so if you have someone elderly, the may have a little problem (not going down, but going back up) however, I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.....

Great House for larger groups

  • 4 of 5

Spent a few days here with 7 people and the house provided a fine opportunity for us all to enjoy each other and Kona. Nice quiet neighborhood and just a short drive to all the activities we wanted. Ralph and his boys were attentive and quick to respond to our needs.

Great location and owner

  • 5 of 5

Rented this place for a team of reporters who were covering the Ironman World Championship. They loved it, and its proximity to the event expo and goings on. The owner is kind and an excellent communicator--would not hesitate to rent again!

Amazing place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The home was beautiful and incredibly convenient for all of our excursions. It easily housed nine people and provided a nice place to sleep, relax, and play when necessary. The house was fully stocked with everything we needed and even had extra that we wanted.

My only complaint would be the temperature. The island breezes didn't always make their way through which Ralph acknowledged and has plans to fix with the addition of A/C. Don't let the temperature prevent you from booking this place though!

I would highly recommend this place again and would definitely re-book if I had the opportunity.

Perfect home base for our group of 10

  • 5 of 5

I am so thankful our original reservation fell through and we found this home to spend our week at! The grounds are stunning, the home immaculate, the neighborhood quiet and safe. The view of the ocean from the front yard is just as gorgeous as the view of the mountains from the backyard. The house had plenty of space for our family and served as our home base for our family vacation/destination wedding/honeymoon. Our group included my parents, my fiance-turned-husband (wahooo!!) and myself, and our niece, nephew, and four kids (ages range from 10 to 20 yrs old.) The house is incredibly well-stocked with enough toilet paper, trash bags, laundry and dish soap, shampoo/conditioner, etc ,and many condiments. We made good use of the ping pong table, the croquet set, and the football, as well as the coolers, beach umbrellas, and the pool noodles. We expected hot and humid Hawaii August weather, and weren't disappointed. We kept busy enough during the day that everyone was able to sleep at night with the fans on high, despite the heat. Our favorite beaches were Ho'okena Beach Park for snorkeling with turtles and playing in the waves and Manini'owali Beach for it's white sandy beach and amazing turquoise water. For authentic Samoan food, you have to try FOB's. Dinner at the Kona Brewery and Pub was a huge hit. We can't wait to come back!

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

I often host groups in Kona and am almost hesitant to write this for fear of it being booked solid

when I need to rent it again.

We were a group of 8, had everything we needed and then some. Quiet, comfortable, spacious.

and elegant. Everything was clean and modern. Ping Pong table was a big hit.

Aloha!

Car: recommended

Kaiilua Kona is a quaint Hawaiian town on the sunny side of The Big Island. Visitors and locals enjoy perfect weather, water, and beaches. Relax or body surf on green, white, and black sand beaches. Star gaze or play in the snow on 14,000 foot Mauna Kea. Kayak to Captain Cook Monument for incredible snorkeling. Experience turtles, exotic fish, dolphins, and whale watching (Dec-Feb).

There's Manta ray dives, scuba lessons/diving in crystal clear blue water, and

surfing lessons with helpful /experienced instructors at easy beginner locations. Charter a boat to go deep sea fishing for Ono, Ahi, Marlin and more. Visit Island wonders such as Waipio & Pololu Valley, Green Sands beach, Volcano National Park, Akaka Falls, and botanical gardens. Take a day trip to Hilo. Back in Kona ... shop and dine along Alii Drive. Bet you'll want to stay for another week.
