LOCATED IN THE HISTORIC DISTRICT OF MENDOCINO, unlike many so called 'Mendocino' listings that are miles from town. The Tower offers well-appointed accommodations for 1 or 2 couples or a small group with pretty garden and ocean views. Stretch your travel budget by preparing some of your meals in the cheerful kitchen or walk to one of the fine local restaurants. The fenced garden creates a peaceful environment and accommodates bikes, kayaks, supervised pets and children. Smoke-Free environment. Check our website (below) for additional photos.
At this writing, the nearby Botanical garden is alive with birds and pollinators. Book now for a fall getaway, Festival of Lights starting Thanksgiving weekend, and for whale watching later in the winter.
Innkeepers Don and Wendy Roberts purchased the historic Bever House in 1989 and re-built the adjacent water tower two years later as a unique guest house in the heart of Mendocino's National Historic District. Recently retired from Stanford University's Communiction Department, Don continues his writing and consults on children's television program. Wendy applies her non-profit management skills to various local endeavors, coordinates the County's Master Gardener Program and serves on the Advisory Board for County tourism promotion.

Living near the ocean has always been a priority for us and the Village of Mendocino won our hearts because of the spectacular bluff top setting and the rural community with its strong focus on the arts and on preservation of the town and its natural environment. It's a privilege to live here and welcome others to this very special place.
Staying in the heart of Mendocino Village allows our guests to enjoy its scenic beauty and share the slower pace and peaceful spirit of our rural community. Comfortable shoes are welcome wherever one goes...from one of the excellent restaurants, to a whale watching cruise, a hike up Big River, a Music Festival concert, Film Festival screening, Writer's Conference seminar...or just prop them up on our tree stump 'footrest' and lounge on the Tower porch with a good book.
We've stayed in dozens of places in Mendocino in the past 30 years, but the tower has been one of our faves.

The tower was such a beautiful, convenient place to stay! The view from the top is amazing. The house was very comfortable and had everything necessary for a great stay. The garden was alive with wonderful scents and colors. We lucked out with the weather and just had a fabulous, relaxing time. Thanks Wendy and Don!
Absolutely wonderful in every way. The Tower has it all. Clean, well appointed with everything you could possibly need. GREAT location a couple of blocks from all the shops and restaurants, and a short 5 block or so walk to the stunning views of the Paciic from Mendicino Headlands State Park, with the Mendicino Art Center literally across the street. We learned from a short visit with Wendy that she is a Master Gardener Instuctor, and it is very evident, as the gardens and grounds around the Tower were lush with color and fragrance. And to top it all off, you can actually go up from the top floor out onto a landing and take a few steps up to the viewing area at the very top of the Tower. Unbelievable views from there. For us, a couple in our late sixties, the whole experience here was just great and way too too short. Would be great for kids and younger couples too. We chose it for all the great ratings it had, and our expectations were met and exceeded. Nothing but great things to say about our time in the Tower.
Very quaint well organized lodging. Walking distance to all parts of the village. Very convenient. Prefect for a few days. Th only criticism is that the Internet connection was spotty but other than that, a great stay.
Accommodations at the Tower are unique and cozy. A staircase leads to the second floor bedroom, and from there, a ladder leads to the Tower bedroom, which has 360-degree views of the Village and ocean. The living room was comfortable and cozy with it's' view of the garden, and the kitchen was well equipped.
We've visited this property since it was first available and always find it a cozy home base for enjoying Mendocino and day trips to wineries, the Redwoods, and special hikes like those on the Stornetta lands along the bluffs between Point Arena and its historic Lighthouse. It takes a few days to cover the Botanical Garden, Skunk Train, whale watching from Point Cabrillo Lighthouse. That gives us a chance to explore menus at several local restaurants, starting with Little River Inn. The Tower, itself, offers a well-equipped kitchen for dining in or putting together picnics. Great little town, great place to lay our heads.
We had two adults and two small children and we found the unit to be a little small for us. There is a sofa bed on the main level. The kitchen is well stocked. We found that the heat didn't travel well to the third level.
