About The Owner

My husband and I moved to Crested Butte to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. We came for the winters and stayed for the summers. We love the casual relaxed atmosphere of our mountain village. We ran this property as a Bed and Breakfast for 15 years so we have made all amenities with the perfect vacation in mind. We have had so much fun living here, hiking, biking and skiing and love to have visitors enjoy the house and town. Let us know what we can do to make your stay more enjoyable and we will take care of it.

The Owner purchased this house in 1990

Why The Owner chose Southwestern Colorado

Best location in town, on Coal Creek with Colorado Wildflower garden in Front. 1 block to main street and all restaurants. Walk to all activities, hiking, x-country skiing and exploring Town of Crested Butte. 1 block to free shuttle for town and mountain. No car needed to get anywhere.

What makes this house unique

This beautiful mountain lodge combines complete comfort with rustic elegance to provide you with ideal accommodations for families and large groups. Whether you prefer to ski our expert slopes or cruise the blues, flyfish our streams or stroll thru fields of wildflowers, or just sit in the warmth of the sun and read a good book, our house is sure to be all you are expecting in comfort and convenience. What ever you choose to do, a stay at our house along with the majestic setting provides the perfect place to make memories that you will cherish forever. You will feel a part of Crested Butte immediately due to the location of home. Nestled between the gardens and Coal Creek which runs in the front yard. The scenic bridge over the stream creates a picturesque approach to the house. Adds to the magical setting. Benches along the stream and porch with barbeque and tables lets you enjoy this most unique setting in town. Landscaping is Colorado at its finest. The winter sun warms the house all day with floor to ceiling windows looking out at town and the mountains. Sunny breakfast room overlooks Coal Creek.

14 inch hand hewn logs are the interior walls of the living room. Original cabin walls dating back 110 years.

Guestbook comments from the owner

August 22, 2013

To the owner of “213 on 3rd” ,

As the mother of the “Clan” who rented your place in Crested Butte, I want to tell you what a wonderful time we had while staying there between Aug. 4-9. Our married children gather every other year…they come in from Alaska, North Carolina, and Minnesota….and, of course, the Locals from Crested Butte. We had 16 people there now that the Grandchildren are college age and a set of twins age 6.

Everyone liked the facility. We had the good fortune to have had the beautiful bedroom to the right as you come in…..how interesting with the old logs.

Each family takes a turn for cooking dinner…there were no complaints about the kitchen utensils, etc. It is such a nice arrangement connecting to the open sitting room…we loved the big table.

The surrounding creek certainly added to charm.

And the walking distance to Elk Ave. kept up all with something to do when not biking or hiking.

We just want to say a big “thank you” …and we

Especially appreciated how very clean it was all over. B Be assured we will pass our good time on to our Minnesota friends who also gather with their families in large homes like yours. ……………Marilyn

Great downtown location

  • 4 of 5

It's a little funky, but that's the charm of Crested Butte. The location is excellent for taking advantage of downtown amenities and it's just three blocks to the town bus. Parking is very limited, (two spots, three if you squeeze) considering the number of people the house accommodates. Snow removal was scant on the patio adjacent to the river, but the kids took this as an opportunity to build a giant snow cave that wil probably be there until July. Beware of snow accumulating on the roof. It builds up immense, icy, hang fire before it drops onto the patio.

The furniture and bedrooms are all comfortable, and it's great to have a bathroom for each bedroom. The listing implied that there was a hot tub, so it was disappointing to discover there was none. The in-floor heat was nice, but did nothing for the upstairs bedrooms, which would get cold at night, and we couldn't find any additional blankets. A small space heater for the upstairs bedrooms would be nice. The kitchen was well appointed and well designed for feeding a crowd. Overall, the place suited our needs and everyone had a good time. I would stay here again - particularly if they had a hot tub.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We have forwarded your comments to our property manager. Your comments are much appreciated as we strive to provide a premium vacation experience, and will address all your concerns. We purchased new space heaters for each bedroom at the beginning of the season, so we will find out where they went, and we will add more blankets for each bedroom. We fixed the website so that the reference to the second Jacuzzi tub does not imply that it is a hot tub. We do have an additional 5 parking spaces down the alley in the back yard of another house, however we find it more convenient to use the off street parking next to the house. We will ask our snow shovel personnel to do a better job of snow removal. We are very glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you very much for leaving our house in such perfect condition. We hope to see you soon again in CB.

Fabulous stay for family

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family gathered for a wedding last week and this house was fabulous. The setting is perfect: a block walk from the center of town (and free shuttle bus to mountain), a gurgling brook in front, loads of bedrooms/bathrooms, and lots of "gathering" spots inside and outside! Everything was beautifully maintained, the kitchen was completely stocked, and the owners are very helpful and responsive. It's a huge house but felt cozy and comfortable; every one of our guests said thank you for finding such a great place!

WOW, a DEFINITE for rental homes any season!! This house will accommodate friends ready to tear up the ski slopes; a couple looking to meet others at breakfast; or a get-away for a family retreat. One of my favorites is the dining area, a mess hall of sorts w/ it's large table, centrally situated between the two wings which brings everyone together at least once a day to enjoy happy hour or a meal. This retreat is cozy yet open to the tremendous views. Located creek-side and nestled in the quaint historical town of Crested Butte. We enjoyed walking out the front door only steps for local food / restaurants, shops, and trail heads. We highly recommend this as a stay, in the authentic western town of Crested Butte. We'll be back...........

Our Photographic company came out in July to photograph wildflower season. Rita the owner spent time giving us extensive information on the best places to photograph (West Maroon Pass)even before we arrived. We parked right at the entrance to the house, which made if very convenient to load and unload all our gear. We new we had chosen the right location as soon as we entered the front door. We were thrilled to see the house had just undergone a beautiful renovation. All the rooms from living/dining area to bedrooms and baths were clean, well maintained, bright and cheery. We were two blocks from Elk Ave. (main part of town)just far enough away from town to still be quiet but convenient to restaurants, shops, grocery, mountain shuttle and post office.

The living room/dining area was perfect for our group of 12. The well stocked Gourmet kitchen had everything we needed to make our own meals. We all agreed that whatever beds they have are the most comfortable beds and pillows we had every slept on. Each bedroom having its own bath was wonderful for privacy. There is an extra bathroom off the common space that was really convenient. We awoke each morning to have coffee sitting in the front yard overlooking the spectacular Coal Creek and Totem Park.

The house has 2 sections which worked out great for our group. There is a computer work station in the library area which was perfect for our photo editing at the end of the day. This room also has an extensive library, the room itself has great windows so the natural light just streams through while you are reading or working. We spent our evening socializing in the comfortable living room or playing games at the large dining table. Our company highly recommends this house for business, family or ski groups.
