The Owner purchased this house in 2004
We purchased our house as our retirement home, but we are still some years away from retiring. So we thought we share our home with guests until those retirement years roll around. It's a peaceful and scenic setting and the water can be viewed from most rooms in the house.
Stayed with my family (total of 10 adults) and I have to say it was a beautiful place to relax andtour the area. We couldn't have asked for a nicer home that though there were ten of us we didn't bump into each other---plenty of space. My kids loved the volleyball court, I loved the kitchen with every container I needed to cook a large family dinner. If I had a question beforehand the owners got back to me very promptly. The one thing I want to say is OMG, THE SUNSETS---the water is right there in your front yard and the beautiful beautiful breathtaking sunsets was worth the trip. THANK YOU!!
This place is lovely! We had multiple families and all were comfortable in this spacious home. The views cannot be beat. We had a fantastic time and will be back - thank you!!
We have stayed at this beautiful cottage several times and each time it has been with additional families. As other reviewers have mentioned this cottage is very well-equipped, clean and has a BEAUTIFUL private location on the lake. When you get a cottage that is 2500 sq. ft. with 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry room, sitting room w/piano, all towels, & sheets, huge kitchen that is well-stocked, kayaks and paddleboat, picnic tables, fire pit, volleyball court, wireless, cable, etc... and then divide the cost with a couple of families I GUARANTEE you will not find a better cottage anywhere at this price! Thank you Jim and Carole for all the thought you put in supplying and especially sharing this hidden treasure.
First I would like to THANK the Maddox family for allowing us to share the enjoyment of thier beautiful home. We have rented the Duneview house now for about 5 yrs. and have always found whatever we need available at the house. They do an excellant job with the bullitin board(current and local events) so you have all the info you need to make your stay pleasant, funfilled and comfortable. We go in late May for the fishing, it is always GREAT, and we especialy like the protection that the front yard slips and cover provide our boats. Our pack list gets smaller each year, because of the provitions provided at the cottage-LOVE having the firewood. The sunsets are unbelievable and you want it to storm 1 night just so you can experience the system crossing the lake and dunes. We will continue to use our week as long as you continue to share.
Our family stayed at the Duneview home and enjoyed every minute of it. The house was very clean and had everything we needed. The location is great and the view from the family room is wonderful. The fishing was good and right from the shore of the property. Everyone had a fun time and the owner has lots of games, books and movies for the kids to watch. It is a great family vacation spot. We would highly recommend this house for anyone visiting Michigan. The Owners were very helpful and they have put a lot of thought into the needs of their guests. They make you feel at home in their place.
We had a GREAT time.
My friends and I rented this property for a girls long weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and the surrounding area. The view of the sand dunes from the patio and family room was amazing. It almost feels like you are on a houseboat while sitting in the family room as it is surrounded by windows and is very close to the water.
The house provided everything we needed and more. The owners have put a lot of thought into making sure the guests are comfortable and feel right at home. There were plenty of beds and privacy for us all. Everything was neat and clean. The kitchen had everything we needed and then some.
The outdoor area is very private and has plenty of seating. We enjoyed the use of the paddle boat and kayaks. There is a very nice gas grill for barbecuing.
Ludington State Park is a short drive and is gorgeous. There are beautiful hiking trails, camping, swimming, sand dunes, and a very nice lighthouse. Only 182 steps to the top and well worth the climb.
The bottom line is we would rent this house again and would highly recommend it to others. It would be a great place for a large family or a family reunion. There are small cottages down the road for rent if additional space is needed.
Note: The ice maker wasn't working so check with the owner prior to your visit as you may want to bring a bag of ice. The water tasted good which was a nice surprise for a cottage.
We could not find a cheese grater. It was probably there somewhere as there was almost every kitchen tool imaginable.
On Hamlin Lake - just 6 miles North of downtown Ludington
