2 bed apartment for up to 6 people and 3 bed house for 8, sandy beach

Beautiful 2 bed apartment with terrace overlooking the pools and gardens and 3 bed terraced house with private patio and garden by the sea. Furnished to a high standard with a fully equipped kitchen. The properties are situated in a low rise, seaside complex with huge communal gardens with free wifi internet access , 2 pools with life guards in summer, tennis court, bakery/cafeteria and 4 restaurants on site. Very child friendly due to its location with all the apartments and houses surrounding the pools and gardens and keeping the children away from the roads while playing on the lawns. Very popular with couples and families from all over Europe. The closest beach (Mediterranean) is a 2 minute walk along the seaside promenade and the Mar Menor beach and children’s play area and park is just across the road. Both beaches are big and sandy. Shops, supermarkets and beach bars within walking distance. Bus stop just outside and free parking.

Sports: La Manga is famous for its water sports, sailing, wind surfing, kite surfing, scuba diving, etc., etc. There are schools and centres for all levels of experience. The beaches stretch along the whole peninsular so it's possible to find you own spot even in summer. There is a golf course next to the complex and the famous La Manga Club with its golf and tennis facilities is nearby. Many more golfcourses situated around the Mar Menor. There is also a stable for anyone interested in horse riding and plenty of places from where to rent bikes or boats.

General: The La Manga strip has squares and plazas with restaurants, bars, supermarkets, boutiques and markets scattered all along the Gran Via, the main road. There is a commercial centre located next to the marina, a 5 minute drive from the properties. There you find food from all corners of the world, many shops as well as the popular Saturday market.

At the beginning of the strip, you’ll find Cabo de Palos, an old fishing village with fantastic seafood restaurants along the seaside promenade, a Sunday market and a beautiful old lighthouse. This is one of the main areas for diving with many schools and shops in the harbour.

Then there is the Calblanque nature reserve with unspoilt beaches and hiking tracks.

La Manga also offers many places for children, including a large indoor play park (Camelot Park) with cafeteria/bar and terrace for the parents and outdoor fun park (Peke Park) as well as seasonal tivolis.

About Kirsten

I am Swedish but left Stockholm in 1995. I then lived in London, UK, for 10 years years, working in many areas including, fashion reatail and magazines as a stylist and fashion writer. I went to La Manga the first time in 2001 and spent a week's holiday here with family. My husband and I fell in love with the place and returned the year after and bought our first property, the 2 bedroom apartment in the advert. We then bought the terraced house in 2004 when we started thinking of moving to Spain.

We decided to leave London and came to live in La Manga with our first son, Luis (then 9 months) in 2005. Since then we have had 2 more sons, Sebastian and Samuel, both born in Cartagena. We have been here for 11 years and love the outdoor lifestyle where yoiu can find endless things to do without spending much money.

I spend my mornings looking after our 3 properties and the afternoons looking after the boys, going to football practice and matches and playing on the beach and in the parks. I never liked the cold and dark in Sweden or the wet and grey in London so now I feel I have found the perfect place to live.

Why Kirsten chose Cartagena - Mar Menor

We bought this beautiful poolside apartment in 2002 and the lovely terraced house in the summer of 2004. After first falling in love with Aldeas de Taray a rainy day in March, we realised that it would be the perfect holiday spot in the sun.We spent many holidays ourselves in the apartment and then moved permanentely to Aldeas de Taray Club at the end of 2005.

Our oldest boy spent his first year and a half in the terraced house and learnt to walk on the spacious lawns of the communal gardens as well as balancing along the wall of the seaside promenade. The house is great as it has the bedrooms and a large bathroom upstairs and kids can be put to bed while the adults can still enjoy the kitchen, living/diningroom and outside seating area at night. The patio has seating for 8 and a BBQ. The apartment is fantastically set with the a´southfacing terrace overlooking the pool. The closeness to the sea and the lovely, sandy beach is brilliant as you can easily come and go and do not need to pack for the day or take the car anywhere. What we also love (and our guests and locals of La Manga would agree) is that Aldeas de Taray Club is La Manga's best looked after complex. It has the enormous, lawned gardens with the 2 big pools, always clean and always at least one pool open all year round. The free internet (wi-fi) and the tennis court as well as activities put on for children during the fiesta week of August are all big draws. We love this house and the only reason we didn't stay on living there was that we needed to be nearer to the school and nursery, but for a summer holiday or a few months during the mild winter it is a lovely place to be.

What makes this apartment unique

The typical Spanish/Moorish look of the complex and the large green areas with loads of beutiful flowers, Bouganvilla, Hibiscus, Palm trees, olives trees, fresh bananas. The lovely seaside promenade, just a few steps from the house, where you can spend hours watching the Mediterranean sea make waves or reading a book on the wall or one of the benches. The long, sandy beach, which is hardly ever too busy, the clean, sparkly blue swimming pools and all the little details in Mosaic, scattered around the complex and inside the house. The feeling of being far away from the world and total relaxation and the closeness to so much beautiful neature and the Mar Menor.Opening the window and hearing the sea, smelling the fresh air. Breakfast in the garden or on the terrace of the apartment, having a BBQ at night, listening to the grasshoppers and being surrounded by friendly neighbours and holiday makers.

Guestbook comments from the owner

To begin with, we love La Manga. There is something for everyone! The beaches are exellent.. The nearest beach goes on for many kilometres! If you walk to the other side, Mar Menor, you find a new sea (!) that is wounderful and has a superb beach.

What not to do is stress. The first person to wake up goes to the breadstore on the complex and buy freshly baked bread. Enjoy the outdoors as much as possible! Don't forget sunlotion! Investigate the restaurants nearby and if you want to visit the best one ask for Peters! A super restaurant by Mar Menor, a walk from Taray approx 400 metres.

And why not visit the 9-hole (par 3) golf course! You rent everything there. Not a master course but fun. And take the bus to Zoco for shopping! It's by the 4th kilometre. If you have a car, recommended if you want to explore some more, it's a must to visit Cabo De Palos, the lighthouse at the beginning of La Manga. Exellent diving! And of course you must visit another nice restaurant by the marina, just before the bridge.

You're gona love it! :-) We have now been coming every summer for 4 years!

La Manga Strip

My wife and I visited this area twice in the last couple of years and we have stayed in both the house and the apartment. They are situated on the La Manga strip which runs for about ten miles and encloses a large area of sea making a large calm lagoon. So if you stay on the strip you are never far from the water, with the beach only two minutes walk away in two directions! The apartment and the house are both on a complex with a well tended garden area of bushes and grass complete with swimming pools.

The house and the apartment are comfortable both nicely furnished and well equipped.

It is best to rent a car (cheap if organised locally), because although there are good local restaurants, you will need one for shopping at the supermarket as well as exploring.

The strip is relatively quiet with nice local bars, but you can visit the Marina for a more lively evening out as it has numerous restaurants, clubs and bars - some with live music. We had a good time exploring the La Manga area including visits to several local towns.

The apartment complex in next to a golf course - handy for those who play, or for lessons for those who don't.

We enjoyed our stay and hope to come back soon - it's a friendly place.

Nice accommodation, affordable

It felt like a long time in the car when coming from Alicante AirPort. But it was worth it. Very nice pool area with trees, flowers, green grass and tennis court. Nice beaches, very close by.

We came when a few places weren't open for the season yet. So it was a little long way to a good supermarket. And the house could use a few better utilities in the kitchen. But beds were comfy, it was nice and clean. We had everything that we needed and Kerstin was only a text message away.

Very convenient for family traveling with kids.

We spent last Summer in Taray, Alicante. We had a terrific time with our family and friends. We have a 2-year old daughter and she enjoined it a lot. Taray has a great pool area (especially for kids). There are plenty of restaurants nearby and you don’t need a car. They also have 2 new beach clubs within walking distance from Taray. Staying at Taray is very convenient for family traveling with kids. You can also jump on the bus if you don´t have a rental car. Although we would suggest that you have a car. They have a huge supermercado near the harbor and also a small play ground for kids.

We enjoined our stay and would definitely recommend it to others.
