A spacious casita surrounded by Fantastic Views
About GayNell Rippel
We love staying in VRBOs when we travel; we’ve found it to be more relaxing, comfortable and conducive for exploring the various locales. We’ve explored Fredericksburg, Brenham, Marfa, much of Louisiana as well as the California wine country, San Francisco, and San Diego this way. Both of us are West Texas natives. (GayNell grew up in Big Spring and Jeffrey lived in Lubbock for several years. GayNell got her bachelor’s degree at Sul Ross State University in Alpine and fell in love with the area.) We’re retired now and while vacationing in Alpine in February of 2018, we decided to see if there was a house for sale that suited us. We found the perfect location shortly after with the added bonus of a casita on the property. We renovated everything and here we are.
GayNell Rippel purchased this Guest House in 2018
Why GayNell Rippel chose Alpine
We think this is the perfect location - 360 views, wildlife viewing and accessibility to town.
What makes this Guest House unique
The property sits up from town providing a fantastic view of Alpine to the southwest and the plains to the north. The best views are above, however: the sky and the stars. Deer frequent the area and one herd has a pronghorn antelope (curly horns) as part of its group. The casita is across from Kokernot Field where the Alpine Cowboys play baseball in the summer, yet it's peaceful and far enough from the train to not be offended by midnight horns. We have all the amenities in the casita and being close to town is a big plus for eating and shopping.

Great little Casita
This place is a great location and the perfect size for a couple. We’ll be back!
Charming and comfortable casita!
We enjoyed our 6-night stay in this casita. The place was super clean, generously stocked, and nicely decorated. The location is private and quiet. We especially liked the great views, and the easy walk to the park and Cowboys baseball. Would definitely stay here again.
A lovely retreat for two
We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting the Big Bend area. This was a perfect place for two. It is nicely furnished, with everything we needed and more. It feels more secluded than it really is, and is so nice and quiet yet close to everything in Alpine. We had a lovely time!
Glad you enjoyed it. Please come visit again. Thanks for staying.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Casita.
The location was great the house was very comfortable.
I hope you got some great pics with your camera set up.
Glad you enjoyed your stay and please come again.
Absolutely the best place we have ever stayed. Casita was spotlessly clean, roomy, and restful after our busy days exploring the area. GayNell and Jeffrey were gracious and helpful with some sights that we didn't know about. We would definitely recommend this place.
So glad you enjoyed the area and the casita. Please come again. Great to meet you. Safe travels.
Fantastic place to stay! Location is close to town. Casita is roomy, clean and very comfortable. I would definitely stay again!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Please come again.
Alpine is home to events like Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering, Trappings of Texas, Viva Big Bend Music Festival, and Artwalk. The Museum of the Big Bend is an award-winning museum at the Sul Ross State University campus just up the road from the casita.
Less than 30 miles west lies Marfa with events like the Marfa Lights Festival, Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love, the Marfa Film Festival, and Marfa Myths, the annual multidisciplinary festival programmed by Mexican Summer and Ballroom Marfa.
Twenty-four miles to the north is Fort Davis where the Hummingbird Festival and Mile High Chili Cook-Off take place at the state park in Fort Davis.
The entrance to Big Bend National Park is 80 miles south of Alpine, and is a must-see if you're already this far out. A little farther is Big Bend Ranch State Park. All of the parks have great hiking and wilderness viewing.
