Oceanfront cottage with stunning views of Maine’s Rocky Coast. Lovely retreat for writers, artists, and families.
Breathtaking views of the open ocean and a relaxing atmosphere await you in this comfortable cottage. The view is astounding, and has inspired the work of a local artist for many years. It sits atop the rocky shoreline of Indian Point of Georgetown. While here, you can access several private beaches, or travel to nearby coastal villages. If you want to unwind, you can lounge around in the house or at the picnic table on the edge of the rocks. Enjoy watching the waves, boats and waterfowl in the nature preserve that runs along the front of the property. At night, you will be relaxed by the sound of waves crashing into the rocks along the shoreline, the smell of the ocean air, and by looking at the moon reflecting on the water. The interior has a simple, rustic feel, many large windows facing the water and abundant natural light.
Owned by Georgetown Artist Joanne Wilson
We have been all over the world, but this is one place we keep coming back to. While Joanne provides many artistic touches, both inside and out, nature adds a grandeur that make this an incredible place to savor the mid-Maine coast. The cottage itself says “relax” when you walk in the door, and the ocean says “marvel!” The cottage is light and airy, and lends itself to enjoying the ocean from both inside and out. There is comfortable seating in front of the cottage, but we preferred getting out on the magnificent rocks (one could sit there all day listening to the crashing surf and watching the changing ocean, along with the numerous sea birds, families of ducks and passing boats). And the many flowers in the yard, along with a large feeder, ensure even more birds around the cottage itself. From the brilliant morning sunrises, to the star-filled nights and the glow of the moon on the water (joined by the intermittent beam from the nearby lighthouse), there is always something to captivate you.
The kayaking both at Indian Point and nearby in Robinhood cove or Five Islands harbor is fantastic (if you have never kayaked in the fog in a safe and protected bay, it is an experience that should not be missed – the seals popping up around us were magical). If one is looking for a beach, it is a few minutes’ walk; and for exercise, Indian Point lends itself to walking and biking. For those interested in sightseeing, there are a wide variety of destinations within an hour’s drive.
The Georgetown country store, the Five Islands Farm market, and fishing fleet in the harbor all remind one of a simpler time. Joanne herself is very laid back and a joy to work with. We definitely plan to come back again and again.
Our week vacation at the Wilson cottage was simply wonderful! The cottage is sunny, bright and “beach cozy” with breathtaking views of the Maine coast. What a beautiful location! We were amazed by the beauty of Indian Point and all the wildlife. We saw seals, porpoises, deer, many birds, butterflies and a porcupine. Loved the fantastic binoculars to take in all the sights! And the cottage itself is surrounded by beautiful flowers and even fresh herbs right outside the door to enjoy!
We started each day with coffee sitting in the Adirondack chairs, watching the ocean and the occasional fishing or sail boat in the distance. Our day excursions included trips to Reid State Park, Popham Beach State Park and the private beach just down the road… all beautiful beaches and worth visiting! We spent a morning at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, which the whole family enjoyed, and an afternoon in Boothbay Harbor, including a stop at the Maine Aquarium Center. We enjoyed kayaking the New Meadows in Bath (Sea Spray is great for rentals) and we had a fabulous lobster and steamers dinner at Five Islands Lobster Co, followed by ice cream on the dock… yummy!
At the end of our days, the sound of ocean surf and smell of the sea air lulled us all to sleep. One night we saw our first ocean thunderstorm… wow, what a sight! At the end of our stay, we felt completely relaxed and refreshed and definitely look forward to visiting this hidden gem again!
Joanne was lovely and informative- a pleasure to work with throughout the rental process and our stay! Thank you, Joanne, for an unforgettable vacation in Maine!
Amazing view! Located in the private Indian Point community within Georgetown, ME. Access to several association-owned beaches (members and guests only). Very quiet and peaceful. Also great antiquing along U.S. Rt. 1 (to the North).
