In a farmhouse lovely location perched on a hillside overlooking Florence.

Bedrooms 1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Apartment in the countryside, 1 Bedroom, (Sleeps 2), 1 bathroom, large terrace.

This delightful studio apartment (380 ft2 / 35 m2) can be your home away from home while you visit Florence and Tuscany. Enjoy fascinating days of exploration from a peaceful, rural home base like this.

Located only a 20-minute drive from Florence's historic center, you can also take advantage of free parking in nearby Bagno a Ripoli and use the convenient bus system to tour the city.

The flat is attached to a typical Tuscan 'casa colonica' (country farmhouse) occupied by the owners and provides a tranquil, private place to recover after a day of touring. The house is located on a hillside, with breath-taking views of the city of Florence and the hills surrounding Florence. The property consists of approximately nine acres (fenced) in an area protected from development and is planted in olive and fruit trees and grapevines.

Perfect for independent travelers with a car, other cities of interest within 60 miles (96 km) include Siena (40 mi/64 km), Pisa (57 mi/91 km), San Gimignano (35 mi/44 km), Lucca (52 mi/83 km), Arezzo (43 mi/69 km), Cortona (59 mi/94 km) and Volterra (50 mi/80 km). The Chianti wine region is also easily visited by car.

The areas highlighted in the ad (restaurant Donnini, the church of San Lorenzo, etc.) are much closer to what was written by the program, all are in Bagno a Ripoli, but not exactly in the village.

The apartment overlooks the beautiful Tuscan countryside. It is composed of a living room with sofa, a kitchen equipped with cook top, refrigerator, double sink and microwave, a bathroom with sink, shower, toilet and bidet, a loft with sleeping area. The very pretty and romantic double bedroom is reached via an internal wooden staircase.

In the apartment you can surf the internet (WiFi available).

The large terrace reserved for your exclusive use can be used for sunbathing, dining 'al fresco', reading and watching the sunsets as you gaze upon the Duomo and the olive groves below.

A well-marked hiking trail at the end of the driveway includes a section of the ancient Roman road from Bologna to Rome via Florence. Additional trails cover nearby hills and offer panoramic vistas of the area.

Gated access provides security for you, your car and possessions. Reserved parking. Come and go as you please.

Access to the apartment includes approximately one-third mile (500 meters) of graveled road. A car is strongly suggested.

Spectacular View!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Italy. We stayed in this lovely apartment in September. The view in the morning and after a day of sight seeing was quite beautiful! My husband found the olive trees with the tractors and equipment particularly interesting. The apartment was quite cozy and our host, Fiorenza, was very hospitable and generous. She makes an excellent cup of coffee! The trek to the farmhouse was quite an adventure, especially the first time. The road up, for the first timer, was very challenging with many twists and turns but well worth the effort.

A beautiful place with a wonderful hostess.

I can't think of a better way to visit Tuscany. This location was perfect for day trips into Florence(we recommend at least two days here) and all the hilltop towns we wanted to visit. Among them, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Arezzo, Cortona, Orvieto and the Chianti region. With easy access to busses, trains(in Florence), and highways, we were able to travel each day only to return "home" each evening to relax. The view from our terrace was beautiful. Slightly out of town and high upon a hill allowed for peace and quiet to reflect on our day of travel and plan for the next.

The path to get up to this wonderful villa is mostly gravel and steep, but well worth the trip once you see the view. We were amazed that we could make out some of the sights in Florence, including the Duomo and the Arno river.

We were happy to have a full-functioning kitchen. We picked up groceries and local wine from the towns we visited each day and prepared a meal to enjoy out on that terrace each night. The sunrises and sunsets were truly breathtaking.

The property itself is on an olive grove, and being here in the fall afforded us the chance to investigate the land. I brought my sketchbooks and watercolors to capture the famed Tuscan light.

Fiorenza, our host, was most helpful, answering questions and accommodating our needs. The apartment was clean and well stocked with basics. There were maps and pamphlets left by our host and previous renters that we perused. The photos and descriptions in the listing do not do this rental was much nicer than we expected.

We would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay in this region. It is imperative that you have a rental car though.

If were are blessed with the opportunity to visit this part of Italy again, we will most assuredly rent this apartment again.

We loved this place. The view is spectacular! It was a great location to return to after a day in Florence or a road trip in the Tuscany region. Our host was very hospitable. We enjoyed our stay. The road to the farmhouse is a challenge the first time up, but as we became more comfortable with it, it was much more manageable.

Fantastic setting between olive and fig trees

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect location for us to have a serene retreat high above Florence after a day in the busy city or a trip to one of the thousand beautiful places nearby. If the wonderful view, solitude and true Tuscany atmosphere is a high priority for you this is exactly the right place to go to! We spent a marvelous week there and plan to be back for sure!

A Perfect Start to Our Italian Holiday

  • 5 of 5

We could not have found a better location to start our holiday in Italy. Podere del Colle was the perfect setting and was just as advertised - clean, well equipped and peaceful. We always looked forward after a day of sightseeing to return to the "Podere" to enjoy a quiet moment on the terrace with a glass of wine and take in the views of the Tuscan valley and Florence. Many thanks to Fiorenza and Antonio for their warm welcome, hospitality, helpful information and delicious olive oil.

You indeed need a vehicle to reach the "Farm on the Hill" but the climb is worth it!!!! Podere del Colle was the perfect stepping off point to visit Assisi, Siena, Florence and the Tuscan region. We strongly recommend it.

Lovely Apartment overlooking Florence

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just spent a week at this property. We agree with all prior reviewers. Fiorenza and Antonio are lovely hosts and have taken great care to make this a very comfortable apartment. The kitchen was well equipped, and we enjoyed our evening meals on the terrace overlooking the city. It is very quiet and serene, set amongst the olive trees. The road up/down is a challenge, but worth the trip in every way. Bagno a Ripoli provided a wonderful supermarket for stocking up and the park/bus to Florence was very convenient. We very much enjoyed our visit to the area and our accommodations.

Owner's Response: We are pleased that you enjoyed this place. Sorry for the road but it is a common country road typical of the Florentine hills. We are accustomed and we go up and down like a normal road but we understand that for those accustomed to the wide modern roads can seem like an adventure. Thanks for having won the challenge! Thanks Joan and Shaw also for your kindness. You are always welcome.
