Bamboo Cottage is a newly renovated 1940's cottage with lovely handcrafted stained glass windows and wood floors. This cottage is very clean and comfortable. (Request our home-owner's website for more information and pictures.) It is located just minutes across the Neuse River from downtown historic New Bern. This charming 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, cottage has a large living/dining room, eat-in kitchen, front porch, sun room and a large deck overlooking the very private 'bamboo garden'. This comfy cottage has privacy and yet is close to everything. New Bern is a beautiful, historic, small town. There are all of the historic sites, as well as, the natural beauty of the area. 'Bamboo Cottage' is a perfect spot to enjoy them both. The cottage is located just one house back from the Neuse River and has water access at the end

We are known for keeping our cottage very clean and comfy. If you'd like more information or pictures email us and I can send you to our homeowner website also. Thanks!!
Nick and Missy moved to New Bern, NC in 1988. Nick was originally born in England and led a very interesting life in many different countries. Missy was born in Md but always loved the southeast. After graduating from the Univ. of MD in 1983 we moved to Florida together. In 1988 we decided to sell everything and live on our sailboat, cruise the Bahamas and Florida, and then cruise up the East Coast. We got to NC and haven't left.
Melissa Hutchinson purchased this cottage in 2006
We live in New Bern and saw that it had so much to offer visitors. There were hotels in the area but very very few vacation rentals. We prefer to stay in a home when we travel and so assumed others would as well. So we bought and renovated Bamboo Cottage in 2006. And our wonderful guests have loved it here as much as we have!
We really enjoyed our time spent here at the cottage. It was nice to come back here after a day spent running around. The accomodations were wonderful!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
If you are looking for a place to stay in the area, look no further!
We have stayed at the BAMBOO COTTAGE multiple times & have been delighted. It has everything you need, including a washer and dryer. The kitchen makes it very easy to prepare a meal ... and the porch swing is highly recommended to sip your morning coffee =)
Lastly, the owners were very accomodating in giving us access to the propery since were arrived after hours. Again, if you looking for a place in the area ... look no further!
My husband and I loved the location of this cottage, very quiet and peaceful. We brought our tandem bike and enjoyed many "flat" rides to nearby towns. The cottage was very clean and spacious. We loved the hardwood floors, all the natural light, the front porch, and the back deck. The cable TV selection was not the best (no sports channels), but everything else was to our liking. We recommend this cozy cottage!
Great front porch for meeting friendly neighbors. Enjoyed the 2 full baths and fully equipped kitchen. Daily bike rides and walks near the river were fun on the level roads. The firm beds made for restful sleeping. Spacious common areas permitted multiple acitivities in a well heated, air conditioned, or opened-air environment. This cottage is well decorated with a seaside theme. The off-street parking handled 2 cars easily. The back deck picnic table lead to many outside meals. Adequate storage is available for clothes and each bedroom has a closet. This cottage experience was great!!!
We had a wonderful winter getaway here and highly recommend it! The house is bigger than the pictures make it look, and the decor is bright and inviting and very comfortable. The house was remarkably clean and well-kept. The owner was extremely helpful and easy to reach.
New Bern is five minutes away by car and offers so much history and interesting architecture. The Bamboo Cottage provides privacy, convenience, and warm hospitality. We loved our weekend there and wish we could have stayed longer to do some of the jigsaw puzzles there!
We spent the past weekend in the Bamboo Cottage and absolutely loved it. We were visiting family in New Bern. The location of the cottage was great- only minutes from downtown New Bern, and very easy to find. Missy was very accommodating and kind, and it is obvious she and Nick have put a lot of love and work into maintaining this rental. The price was very reasonable. We paid the same price as others did for one room in a hotel that weekend.
The pictures do not do this cottage justice! It is adorably decorated, spotless with all the amenities and beautiful wood floors. The front porch swing and rocking chairs are perfect for relaxing, the beds are comfy, and the layout is great. It is so clean and kid friendly. We did not need to do much childproofing for our 13 month old twins. All in all, a great find! I highly recommend staying here.
The first sight are the gorgeous floors. I stayed for a month during an unexpected heat wave during May and June and was comfortable even when the air conditioner shut down for a few hours one day (rolling blackouts) There are ceiling fans in living room, dining room, kitchen, and both bedrooms so I was always comfortable. The owners were very quick to respond... even when I forgot trash day...they collected it all and took it away for me. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, though being there 4 weeks meant I would have enjoyed a larger TV, but I survived. My 3G worked brilliantly there.
The cottage is literally minutes from downtown New Bern and a couple minutes more to the major shopping. I was visiting family and house hunting. Bamboo Cottage was the perfect location to visit Havelock and explore the surrounding area.
I appreciate the hospitality and good humor of the owners. It made my stay a delight.
Just across the Neuse River from the 'Bamboo Cottage' is the town of New Bern with it's many interesting destinations, including Tryon Palace, museums, restaurants and shopping. And if you would like to venture a little further, the ocean and beaches are less than an hour away, and the quaint waterfront towns of Beaufort and Morehead City are even closer. The Croatan National Forest is just outside of New Bern and offers hiking and nature observing. 'Bamboo Cottage' is a great centralized location to explore the coastal area or to stay right around New Bern and relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Other Activities: kayaking, boating and shark tooth hunting (a favorite with the kids)
