About Ornella Bragaglia
The owners of Casa SanGiovenale are a couple who decide to settle in Orvieto few years ago, coming from other areas of Italy, attracted by the beauty of the place and quality of the life. Piero is a forestry researcher. Ornella is a painter-restorer. They both love outdoor activities, like mountain-biking, hiking and running. They also enjoy arts and cultures. They have two children, Matteo and MariaSole, with whom they share traveling in Italy, and abroad, discovering the nature, culture and arts of new countries.
Ornella Bragaglia purchased this Apartment in 2012
Why Ornella Bragaglia chose Orvieto
The medieval charm, the panoramic view, the silence, the history of the district of San Giovenale(which takes its name from the nearby eleventh century church)... these are the house characteristics attracting us since we moved to Orvieto. We bought this house in love with the atmosphere that you breathe ... just a few steps, however, from monuments, restaurants, shops When we do not have guests we galdly spend a few days in our little paradise!
What makes this Apartment unique
The original stone arches, wooden beams, the medieval cistern, courtyard garden, the panoramic window completely immerse you in the mood of Orvieto, allowing you to still relax in the tranquility of a quiet and typical neighborhood, far from the chaos of mass tourism

Perfect in every way!
Piero and Ornella's apartment in Orvieto is simply perfect. We stayed 8 nights and would have stayed longer if we could have. The apartment itself is lovely - beautifully and artistically decorated with a wonderful sensibility. Its location is the best - steps from downtown Orvieto and with a view to die for. And it's comfortable (even in the extreme heat of August, we were fine). We had everything we needed - full kitchen (fun and easy to cook in), washing machine, WiFi - plus many extra thoughtful touches. For example, Piero met us at the train station and Ornella took us back when we left. And the exterior courtyard is a real treat. It's private and cool. We took all our meals there. And Ornella and Piero's suggestions for restaurants and sights were terrific. We can't recommend the apartment and Orvieto too highly. We planned many day trips from Orvieto but ended up spending most of our time there because it is such a magical and welcoming city. This was one of the best vacations of our life and certainly the nicest apartment we've rented in Europe.
When you meet special people like Rebecca and Charles, you really appreciate the value of this job!
Unique property in Orvieto
Stunning property, fabulous location, amazing hosts. Really forward to going back again some time soon.
The perfect place to stay in the charming town of Orvieto!!
Our two day visit in Orvieto was met with rain and wind but it was one of my favorite places of our 3 week trip. The spacious property located on the edge of the old town in a 1000 year old building is a perfect location. The views from the house are beautiful even in stormy weather. The restaurants, shops and sites are all within walking distance. This house is full of character, blending the ancient structure with Ornella’s artistic touch.
We enjoyed meeting Ornella and her family as they spent time talking with us about Casa San Giovenale, Orvieto and their love of the area. Thank you so much for transportation to and from the train station. It was a real pleasure meeting you and visiting lovely Orvieto!
Great apartment. Very walkable location.
My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay here. Ornella and Piero were excellent hosts. They welcomed us with a bottle of wine and showed us around the apartment, recommended places in the area to visit and were kind enough to make a dinner reservation for us as it was a Saturday and restaurants would be busy. They sent us a quick email on our second day to see how things were going.
The apartment had a beautiful view of the countryside and the kitchen had all the equipment we needed. We loved Orvieto. I had been there before but this was a first for my daughter. We did several day trips to towns in the area but Orvieto was by far our favorite.
We would definitely recommend this apartment!
Very comfortable, and nicely laid out. Great view! The owner is very informative and passionate about the history of Orvieto! We will definitely stay here again! Ciao Dino
My wife and I stayed in the Casa San Giovenale apartment for only 3 nights, but we loved every moment, and will surely be returning again soon.
Our stay in Orvieto began with Piero meeting us at the railway station, and driving us up through the town to the apartment, where Ornella was waiting, and together they gave us a thorough guide around their property. The apartment is delightfully quirky, mixing original features, (the ancient Etruscan wine cellar visible beneath the front window, a well in one corner, and several lovely stone arches), alongside Ornella's colourful and imaginative modern artwork. After the heat outside, the interior was lovely and cool, and very spacious too.
On the practical side, the main room has comfortable seating and a modern TV, while the well equipped kitchen area was perfect for preparing and serving meals. The bathroom was stylish, while the bedroom was cool, with large wardrobe and wonderfully comfortable bed. There is also a well shaded outside courtyard, perfect for breakfast or evening glass of wine among the plants.
The location of the apartment is excellent, and the view from the lounge window is panoramic, looking over the city wall to the valley below and hills beyond. The path outside the apartment is popular with walkers, and you will enjoy visiting the San Giovenale church just outside, with it's ancient frescoes. Speaking of frescoes, our visit to Orvieto cathedral was amazing, and the frescoes there were jaw- dropping.
Many thanks to Ornella and Piero for making our stay so care- free and so enjoyable, - your property and your welcome were first class.
We truly hope to return soon.
