Hawaii Kai Estate Rental Photos and Description

5 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms, sleeps 15

Welcome to our elegant plantation style beachfront home on Portlock Beach in Hawaii Kai, just outside of Honolulu. The spacious and open living area, dining room and designer kitchen all draw your eyes outside to the breathtaking views of Moanalua Bay, Diamond Head, and Koko Head craters.

Step outside to the lanai and be shaded by a huge banyan tree, then wander the spacious lawn to 100 feet of private beach. Watch for whales, swim in the calm waters, and enjoy spectacular sunsets over Diamond Head.

Downtown Honululu and Waikiki beach are just a scenic 20 min coastal drive away. You can also walk to Koko Marina Shopping Center, where you will find coffee shops, groceries, a fitness center, fine dining, locally made gifts, and an 8-plex movie theater. One mile away is the world famous Hanauma Bay Marine Sanctuary where you can enjoy spectacular snorkeling and swimming. Stop at the Halona Blow Hole or the Molokaii Lookout for a chance to spot whales frolicking in the sparkling waters. Catch awesome body surfing waves at Sandy Beach or hike the trail to the Makapu'u Lighthouse. Next stop on the way to Waimanalo town is Sea Life Park for a swim with dolphins!

The main house has three bedrooms, each with its own bath. The master suite has a king-sized koa hardwood bed, large walk-in closet and separate dressing area. A private jacuzzi surrounded by lava rock and local plants awaits you outside the master suite.

The second bedroom has a queen bed and a double punee, with separate bath. The third bedroom has a full attached bath. All are decorated with native Hawaiian koa hardwood furniture and lovely antiques. There is also a half-bath located off the living room for convenience.

The house is lovely and serene. With the trade winds gently blowing, we rarely need the ceiling fans!

truly beautiful place

  • 5 of 5

What can I say except, wow wow wow, the place has a lot of charm, even though some of the furnishings are dated, but that's part of the charm. We had our destination wedding here last week in the beautifully maintained lawn in the backyard overlooking the magnificent bay, beach and of course, the sunsets are breathtaking. Our guests who stayed with us loved it there and we all wished we could stay longer. but alas, we have to go back to Australia. Ryan was easy to communicate, going back as far as last year when I first booked the place, even gave us a chance to see the place when I came to visit Honolulu in April for a conference even though our stay was in October. .. just to make sure we have the perfect place for our wedding in the backyard.

Loved the house and location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at The Banyan Tree celebrating our family reunion!

The location was ideal, we were just 15 minutes from Waikiki, and within 5 minutes to a catholic church,

gas station, grocery store, COSTCO, Ross, pharmacy and other stores. This was just perfect.

The house is beautiful. It has a really open and airy feeling about it, we felt right at home.

The kitchen was a joy to be in. Everything you need was at your disposal. Dining indoors or outdoors

was a nice touch to our daily routines, and being beach front gave us all a chance to paddle board and

take a dip when we were just hanging around the house, which was most of the time!

It is a shallow and calm beach, which made it ideal for the little kids to enjoy too.

Ryan, the owner, made extra efforts to make our stay as comfortable as possible, so thank you Ryan!

We would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful seclusion

  • 5 of 5

Was married at this location. The house and cottage couldn't have been more perfect! We had a large group including lots of kids. It allowed us to have the perfect seclusion we were looking for. Outstanding service and location was great. Wouldn't have changed a thing. Truly magical property.

Outstanding, but a few small improvements would make it spectacular!

  • 5 of 5

Just returning from a fantastic week in Hawaii staying at the Banyan Tree Beach House. We were a group of 10 and there were so many wonderful aspects of this property - but a few things really ought to be fixed and were unexpected for a rental in this price range. The home was truly a study in contrasts: the space was huge and easily accommodated our group. You are right on the beach with a beautiful view and located between two malls you can walk to that have everything you will need (restaurants, movie theater, food store, drug store, Costco, etc.). Also, great mountain hiking in the area. The large deck was great for hanging out, eating and playing cards or just enjoying a glass of wine. The master bedroom suite is spectacular (but the shower handle fell off in the shower). The artwork, cabinets and many of the pieces of furniture were extraordinary (but some of the floors needed refinishing and the doors need to be replaced). The kitchen is fully appointed with every kind of gorgeous serving bowl and platter you can imagine (but the dishwasher wasn't mounted properly and there was an ant infestation). And cockroaches were everywhere and the house really needs to be fumigated. You are right on a busy road, which is ok, but the entry gate was broken so you had to get in and out of the car to enter or leave the property (very inconvenient). The TV had cable, but there was no remote for the Sony DVD player, which was the only way to operate it, so we couldn't look at our home movies we brought. These are small complaints and you can see, I still rate the property a 5, its just that the owners really ought to expend the resources to properly fix these things. I hate to say anything negative - we had a great time, but this lovely home deserves to be kept up and it is time to make these repairs.

All that we had hoped for in a family reunion vacation

  • 5 of 5

This is our first experience in renting from VRBO and being from Canada, we were very nervous about the accuracy of the photos, contract, etc. But we were attending a family wedding and with 3 families, we fit very nicely into this property (and guest house) with 13 people. The pictures are completely accurate and the backyard is incredible with the ocean view and exposure. The owner's family was very good to deal with and extremely patient with my nervousness around payment, etc. So thanks to them for working with us. We met the house caretaker when we arrived, got great information about the house and the vacation began immediately. The house supplies was very good. The house location besides the beachfront is incredible in that "Costco" is about 3 blocks away. We immediately went there to load up food and the location was great in that it was easy to get to Waikiki and to the east part of the island. Another great thing we did was to rent paddle boards for the duration of our trip. We found a store that delivered the rental and we spent much of the time paddle boarding as the ocean was generally very calm so great activity to do. Hanauma Bay is about 1 km away so that was another day well spent. And for the last night, we had dinner at the original "Roy's Restaurant" which is literally across the street. So very much enjoyed one of our best vacations. Thanks to the owner and family for ensuring that everything is in place. And we hope that we can come back for another visit. Would definitely consider staying here again.

Beautiful Home, Beautiful Location!

  • 5 of 5

Rented this beautiful beachfront home for our small and intimate wedding. Stayed in this home for a week and couldn't be happier with our selection. We had 10 family members with us, and it was ideal for such a crowd. We were all together, but had plenty of room to spread out and not get in each others way. The yard and lanai couldn't have been more ideal for our wedding ceremony. Just a spectacular setting for the event.

The home is beautifully decorated and well stocked with necessities. The lanai is so perfect for watching the sunset, relaxing and enjoying the scenery. The house was clean and very comfortable. It is conveniently located off the main highway, only 15 minutes into downtown Honolulu and groceries and great dining are just minutes away. Some even in walking distance!

The owners were easy to work with and very responsive to all questions. Definitely a pleasure to work with and it made our stay so enjoyable.

Highly recommend the Banyan Tree Beach House! Hope to return soon!
