Welcome to our elegant plantation style beachfront home on Portlock Beach in Hawaii Kai, just outside of Honolulu. The spacious and open living area, dining room and designer kitchen all draw your eyes outside to the breathtaking views of Moanalua Bay, Diamond Head, and Koko Head craters.
Step outside to the lanai and be shaded by a huge banyan tree, then wander the spacious lawn to 100 feet of private beach. Watch for whales, swim in the calm waters, and enjoy spectacular sunsets over Diamond Head.
Downtown Honululu and Waikiki beach are just a scenic 20 min coastal drive away. You can also walk to Koko Marina Shopping Center, where you will find coffee shops, groceries, a fitness center, fine dining, locally made gifts, and an 8-plex movie theater. One mile away is the world famous Hanauma Bay Marine Sanctuary where you can enjoy spectacular snorkeling and swimming. Stop at the Halona Blow Hole or the Molokaii Lookout for a chance to spot whales frolicking in the sparkling waters. Catch awesome body surfing waves at Sandy Beach or hike the trail to the Makapu'u Lighthouse. Next stop on the way to Waimanalo town is Sea Life Park for a swim with dolphins!
The main house has three bedrooms, each with its own bath. The master suite has a king-sized koa hardwood bed, large walk-in closet and separate dressing area. A private jacuzzi surrounded by lava rock and local plants awaits you outside the master suite.
The second bedroom has a queen bed and a double punee, with separate bath. The third bedroom has a full attached bath. All are decorated with native Hawaiian koa hardwood furniture and lovely antiques. There is also a half-bath located off the living room for convenience.
The house is lovely and serene. With the trade winds gently blowing, we rarely need the ceiling fans!

Wonderful family vacation spot!
This house exceeded our expectations. The beach front property was pristine with private beach access. We had paddle boards and kayaks delivered to the site for extra fun. From the artwork, beautiful furniture, jacuzzi tub and large kitchen, there was nothing amiss. We came with 3 families of 4 plus 2 grandmas and everyone loved it. With only 20 minutes from Waikiki and a mile from Haunama bay, the location was fabulous.
Thank you to Joshua for making our stay so easy.
Veronika, thank you so much for the shining review and for being such gracious guests! You left the property in absolutely flawless condition and were really so wonderful to host. We would love to have you back again anytime. A hui hou!
Comfortable big old house
Had a great stay at this property. It suited our needs perfectly. Nice bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen. Extra large living room made family gatherings easy and fun. A few things that didn’t work were small irritants.
Washing machine in main house was not working. Dishwasher was not mounted properly and the door would flop open to the floor. House is located off a very busy highway and access is difficult at times. Josh the manager is very helpful and went out of his way to help. Josh thank you!
truly beautiful place
What can I say except, wow wow wow, the place has a lot of charm, even though some of the furnishings are dated, but that's part of the charm. We had our destination wedding here last week in the beautifully maintained lawn in the backyard overlooking the magnificent bay, beach and of course, the sunsets are breathtaking. Our guests who stayed with us loved it there and we all wished we could stay longer. but alas, we have to go back to Australia. Ryan was easy to communicate, going back as far as last year when I first booked the place, even gave us a chance to see the place when I came to visit Honolulu in April for a conference even though our stay was in October. .. just to make sure we have the perfect place for our wedding in the backyard.
Loved the house and location!
We had a fantastic time at The Banyan Tree celebrating our family reunion!
The location was ideal, we were just 15 minutes from Waikiki, and within 5 minutes to a catholic church,
gas station, grocery store, COSTCO, Ross, pharmacy and other stores. This was just perfect.
The house is beautiful. It has a really open and airy feeling about it, we felt right at home.
The kitchen was a joy to be in. Everything you need was at your disposal. Dining indoors or outdoors
was a nice touch to our daily routines, and being beach front gave us all a chance to paddle board and
take a dip when we were just hanging around the house, which was most of the time!
It is a shallow and calm beach, which made it ideal for the little kids to enjoy too.
Ryan, the owner, made extra efforts to make our stay as comfortable as possible, so thank you Ryan!
We would definitely stay here again!
Was married at this location. The house and cottage couldn't have been more perfect! We had a large group including lots of kids. It allowed us to have the perfect seclusion we were looking for. Outstanding service and location was great. Wouldn't have changed a thing. Truly magical property.
Outstanding, but a few small improvements would make it spectacular!
Just returning from a fantastic week in Hawaii staying at the Banyan Tree Beach House. We were a group of 10 and there were so many wonderful aspects of this property - but a few things really ought to be fixed and were unexpected for a rental in this price range. The home was truly a study in contrasts: the space was huge and easily accommodated our group. You are right on the beach with a beautiful view and located between two malls you can walk to that have everything you will need (restaurants, movie theater, food store, drug store, Costco, etc.). Also, great mountain hiking in the area. The large deck was great for hanging out, eating and playing cards or just enjoying a glass of wine. The master bedroom suite is spectacular (but the shower handle fell off in the shower). The artwork, cabinets and many of the pieces of furniture were extraordinary (but some of the floors needed refinishing and the doors need to be replaced). The kitchen is fully appointed with every kind of gorgeous serving bowl and platter you can imagine (but the dishwasher wasn't mounted properly and there was an ant infestation). And cockroaches were everywhere and the house really needs to be fumigated. You are right on a busy road, which is ok, but the entry gate was broken so you had to get in and out of the car to enter or leave the property (very inconvenient). The TV had cable, but there was no remote for the Sony DVD player, which was the only way to operate it, so we couldn't look at our home movies we brought. These are small complaints and you can see, I still rate the property a 5, its just that the owners really ought to expend the resources to properly fix these things. I hate to say anything negative - we had a great time, but this lovely home deserves to be kept up and it is time to make these repairs.

**Guests please note, the VRBO/HomeAway website has a glitch that does not allow us the option to add taxes to our quotes. All quoted nightly rates are subject to an additional 13.962% Tax (4.712% Oahu General Excise Tax and 9.25% Transient Accommodation Tax). As of now the company is doing nothing to fix this problem, so please keep this in mind when you book/request a quote. The benefit to booking through the website is that it's seamless and can be done by credit card, however VRBO/HomeAway charges a $399 "service fee" and $99 for property damage insurance. The benefit to booking directly with owner is that owner does not charge $399 booking fee and $99 property damage insurance. The tradeoff is that guests must send a check with initial payment of 50% of the total to owner to reserve the property, then the second half of the total is due 45 days prior to start date.
