The mountain village of Corbeyrier is situated on a sunny, south facing balcony 500 meters above the floor of the Rhône valley, close to Lake Geneva and Montreux. Here you can enjoy breathtaking views and a quiet, peaceful environment to unwind in. In contrast, 18km away you can enjoy the more trendy attractions of Lake Geneva, with popular Chillon Castle, the Montreux shoreline and its many fine lakeside restaurants.
The chalet is situated in grounds of about 1000m2 with several terraces as well as parking. It is built on two floors. The apartment occupies the ground floor and comprises a large, well equipped kitchen, a dining area and large hall / fireplace area as well as a spacious sitting room and a bedroom with adjoining shower/toilet. The total living area is about 80m2.
The garden is large with two terraces available, one with a barbecue. Deck chairs are provided for sitting out in the sunshine!
Public transport: The chalet is a 5 minutes walk from the nearest Postbus stop. The service takes you down to the mainline station at Aigle in 20 minutes. The bus runs seven times a day, with good connections to and from Geneva airport. We encourage the use of the excellent public transport facilities and we would be happy to assist you in planning your trip, as well as any excursions you would like to make. Swiss public transport offer some attractive passes for those who wish to use these services - contact us for details!
Winter holidays - Or Montreux Jazz?: Corbeyrier is not a tourist resort, so why not have a winter holiday with a difference ? Enjoy the crisp clear air, the bright sunlight and the magnificent winter views. Go for walks in the snowy environment. Or, for the skiing enthusiasts, Corbeyrier is less than 40 minutes drive (60-75 minutes by public transport) from 7 major ski resorts. So you can ski in a different place each day, and get away from the discos and the souvenir shops each evening !
Corbeyrier is also only 20min drive from Montreux - perfect to enjoy the Montreux Jazz Festival early in July or other events during the year.
Sustainable tourism: We believe that each of us has a duty towards future generations and this includes the way we spend our holidays. Avoiding large, purpose built complexes with often dubious water and energy sources, not to mention inexistant water treatment facilities can contribute to this goal.
Our property is well integrated into the immediate environment. We source electricity from a nearby hydraulic powerstation (so it is 100% renewable). Water is from the local mountain spring and is so pure it doesn't need to be treated. Waste water is cleaned before it is returned to the river.
We have invested in technology to reduce water and power consumption (for example heating / hot water is now solar instead of oil), and we participate in the municipal recycling scheme by seperating rubbish.
You can limit the impact of your journey by using public transport (trains here are regular, punctual, safe and clean!) or, if you decide to fly, you can participate in a carbon offsetting scheme.
Some excerpts from our Guest Book:
'A superb chalet, spacious, well-equipped and with wonderful views'. 'Had a truly wonderful week, chalet is lovely'. 'The chalet was just what we were looking for, peaceful, functional, great views, remote enough to feel like you're escaping the 'rat-race' but close enough to towns (...) it was great sitting out on the balcony drinking local red wine and watching the stars appear!'. 'We have had an outstanding week in this homely, well equipped chalet'. 'A comfortable and relaxed home from home for 2 weeks which we loved coming home to each night'. 'The children loved their visit and we would certainly recommend the holiday and house to friends'. 'Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - thank you. Would love to return'.
We are a family of 6 , 2 of our children have already left the house, so we try to get together every summer for a family reunion and catch up on things. This year we were 7 since our daughter's boyfriend joined us. We found this callet through the internet, it looked exactly like what we were looking for - quiet, spacy, nice view, and we were glad to find out that it was awailable at the second half of August. Neil was very nice over the phone, he agreed to add another mattress for us in the lower level, and was flexible with the dates (we arrived on a Wednesday and stayed for 2 weeks). We arrived by train to Montreau, after spending 5 days in Zermatt. We rented a car and called the house owner. Neil was already at the house when we called, we stoped at the Migros in Aigle to buy food and drove the serpentine road (according to the directions we got) up to the challet. Neil was very pleasent and explained everything in depth. This was the beggining of a wonderful vacation, with lots of preceous moments in the challet and around it. The piano is a great addition (for those who like to play) so we had some nice family concerts there (the neigbours are nice, they said they enjoyed it)...
We took some nice trips to the mountains and to the lake. There are hiking trails that go right from the village to the mountains surounding it. The village itself is a small othentic swiss village, most people are local, one small store with funny opening hours.
We had a problem with the water heating in the middle of our stay (there is a solar system of heating and hot water supply). We called Neil and he came the same day to fix it.
On the last day of our stay we had to leave early to get to the airport, but our son sayed and left a few hours later. Neil came to return us the deposit and was kind enough to drive our son to the train station in Aigle.
To conclude - we warmly recommend this challet for a quiet and peacefull family vacation.
A lovely relaxing place to decompress and enjoy the beauty of the mountains!
Neil met us at the train and took us up to the chalet, which should be noted is a bus-ride from the train and away from most amenities, but is exquisite. The beds were the best we had in Europe, the garden and patio a dream. The kitchen well appointed and enjoyed having British tv in the evenings. The upper shower seemed to fill with water quickly, but other than that, everything was perfect! Everything was spotless and yet warm and welcoming.
There is the most darling man running the store (open from 9-noon and 6-7 only), but suprisingly well appointed. And, if you need more, you take the bus down and shop near the train station.
The walking in the area is exquisite and each few feet offered a new view. Husband took more photos of this area than of Rome in the 5 days we were there!
The people of the village were warm and welcoming and the entire experience quite nice.
This chalet is located in the heart of the Swiss Alps countryside. It was stunning. The sight of the mountains across the Rhone valley, for instance, is alone worth the winding 20 minute drive from Montreux. Corbeyrier is a small villiage, and we greatly enjoyed walking around the roads and trails in the region to other villiages and through the steep forests. The neighbors were great - we were given a jar of homeade jam and met their cat Manuschka. We visited the Chateau de Chillon, went to the Bex salt mines, and stopped in St Saphorin for a walk in the vineyards. All in all, it was a delightful vacation. This house, despite its lack of grandeur or luxury, has an authenticity and charm that would be hard to match.
A wonderful, well equipped chalet with stunning views! We all had an incredibly relaxing week. Ahead of us was plenty of european city sightseeing so it was great to relax beforehand. The drive up to the chalet is interesting, loads of bends but brilliant view points, if you are looking for that typically Swiss chalet where you can go and buy fresh bread and basic provisions each day from the local shop then this chalet will NOT disappoint you! There is a super BBQ in a raised shaded area, with that beer or glass of red in hand and fantastic view nothing could be better!! Its only 20 mins to a great pool and Lake beach at Villeneuve and Montreux, Chillon chateau being in view from the beach! Local shops only a 20 min drive away too. Walking around the village, and waking each morning to the sound of the cow bells was fantastic, really relaxing in themselves. We have already recommend the chalet to friends. Shame we couldn't meet up with the owners, however, they were incredibly helpful and made the booking process very easy indeed! Thanks again we do intend to make a return if we can - we loved it!
We arrived on a Monday and stayed through Friday at the end of June in 2009, four nights. The drive up the mountain was on a good road with many switch back turns. We were amazed we found a small village about 3/4 of the way up from the valley floor and our Chalet. It is not a five star hotel with many extras but it is an honest to goodness chalet that felt like our home while we were there. We had just come from a four star hotel in Zermatt and did not know what to expect. We got settled, met the owner who was very nice and went back down the mountain to shop. The valley provided any type of store you needed. The Chalet is centrally located so day trips of a few hours were no problem.
Our experience was similar to visiting our second home in New Hampshire on the Lake. It is not our primary home, but great for a visit just to get away.
We were gone most of each day touring but enjoyed the evenings walking around the village to the sound of the cow bells in the distance. We couldn't believe it stayed so light up to 10:00 p.m. and was so peaceful.
The bedding was adequate and we felt we were living just like the average swiss. The hot shower after a long day felt great along with one night of using the fireplace.
I would reccommend the experience there. If you want a four or five star hotel get one and pay the price. If you have always wanted to stay in an authentic Swiss Chalet in a mountain village, try it, you won't be disappointed. The rate was very fair compared to other Chalets and hotel rooms that we had researched. This is a summer review. I am a skier and feel, I would probably stay closer to my primary ski mountain in the winter.
Corbeyrier is situated in the French speaking part of Switzerland, just east of Lake Geneva. On a sunny, south facing balcony overlooking the Rhône valley, the village is surrounded by (but not overshadowed by) mountains rising to over 3'000 meters (9'000 ft). The house is at an altitude of just under 1'000 meters (3'000 ft) above sea level. This is a totally unspoilt, little known area which is quiet and peaceful - but which offers many varied attractions just a short trip away.
Lake Geneva is only 15 minutes away by car. There you can choose between a trip on the lake, a visit to Chillon Castle or a nice meal in one of the lakeside restaurants. The resort of Montreux offers a wide variety of attractions and events. Further afield, Evian, Lausanne and the cheese-making fortified town of Gruyère are all less than one hour away.
