About Randall Duryea
My wife and I live in Inverness California when we are not here in Pepeekeo. We sometimes joke about having to choose between paradise #1 and paradise #2. I am a practicing Emergency Physician and administrator for a large, multi-state Emergency Medicine partnership. My wife, Laura is a Voice Teacher and director of a small local children's theater company in Point Reyes Station, CA. We are both practicing Buddhists and have a dedicated meditation room in the house.
Randall Duryea purchased this House in 2001
Why Randall Duryea chose Pepeekeo
My sister is a nurse practitioner who has lived and worked in the Hilo area for 20+ years. We fell in love with the area during multiple visits here and decided to buy a second home. Our vision has been to create a serene, retreat-like space where families and small groups, as well as ourselves, can enjoy the uniquely nurturing environment of this beautiful island.
What makes this House unique
The privacy, quiet, gorgeous ocean views and beautiful gardens of our home make for a wonderful place to simply hang-out and relax. The pool and large yard and covered patio are very popular with families with children. We LIVE here part-time and the house is our home. It is furnished and equipped not like a typical vacation rental, but like a home. Our guests have always appreciated that and been very respectful of our home, which we deeply appreciate.

Lovely, Good Vibes Rental
No complaints about this house! It's an older property, but is so cute and super well kept and sooo clean (well done Ingrid and Betty!) and its huge (great for a larger group) and the ocean is in the distance down the hill and the breezes are heavenly, and the yard is so pretty and well kept and the lanai is key and its peaceful sleeping, and good wifi and a good showerhead, and a few minutes outside town, and there's a little pool, I am glad to have stayed the wk.......I would've given 5 stars but the extensive rains had stopped and so there were power tools used by many folks close by, which is NO fault of the owners and it just meant heading out to explore til evening and all the work was done.......its a lovely property in and of itself.
Beautiful and relaxing hillside property
This beautiful home has a great location and is private and peaceful. Whether you’re inside the tranquil home with beautiful views or outside in the pretty gardens, yard and pool area you will be comfortable and impressed. You will truly feel like you are on vacation in this relaxing, mindfully beautiful environment. It exceeded my expectations and was very pleased with my experience.
Wonderful Place to Stay
Our family of 5 - my hubby, myself and our 3 kids - 16, 13 and 12 stayed at the house for 13 days in December 2019 over
Christmas. I can’t say enough about this place. We were all so sad to leave. The layout and vibe of the house was so relaxing and calm. With tons of room for all of us. The screened in porch that opens up into the house is heaven on earth. I spent many hours out there relaxing and being thankful to be alive :). The kids had hours of fun in the pool and we could have spent a great holiday just staying at the house but you get the bonus of being on the amazing island of Hawaii!!! All the furniture ...from patio furniture, living room furniture and beds were all very comfortable. There were lots of pillows, blankets, towels etc all the things you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook our meals. Randall was very friendly and helpful and answered our questions quickly and accommodated anything we needed. Can not say enough about this place ...wish we were still there! I would stay here again and again and again!!
This Home Has the Best Energy!
It's the kind of zen environment that makes you want to meet the owners given the "aloha" sensibilities that this home reflects! It's a comfy older structure updated with Japanese style shoii windows with a meditation room between the front of the house and the bedrooms in the back. We spent morning coffee time on the spacious back porch that over looks a large grassy lawn wrapped in a wall of green foliage and opening to an ocean view. Furniture here and throughout the house is plush and "curl up" comfortable.
Misc: The pool is small but you can do a few strokes from end to end. We love the "house" geckos who were shy at first but then seemed to realize we mean them no harm and were very apparent (and cute) throughout our 2-week stay. The wi-fi is strong and fast, which accommodated our working vacation. The house sits high on a bluff above the other homes in the neighborhood and is fenced and gated. Hilo and all its offerings is about 10 minutes south. And the famed Akaka Falls is just up the road by a few minutes. All in all this place is ideally located to explore the East side of the island.
The one drawback is that dogs in the neighborhood on some nights started a bark fest during early morning hours – but would eventually subside. I mention this for light sleepers – pack some ear plugs or download a white noise app. It's a small trade-off for all the other delights this rental provides.
Excellent get away
Very easy and convenient
Communication with Randall was great. Any issues he sorted out quickly.
He also gave us a huge amount of information about things to do and see.
