Overview

Stonington House Rental Photos and Description

4 bdrms, 3.5 baths, Sleeps 8 +

Enjoy magnificent water views from this historic townhouse in the heart of Stonington Village. Erected circa 1840, the three-story building has been renovated to fit modern standards yet retains its original, gracious character. The highlight of the house are it's views with a dining deck overlooking the bay's many sailboats and Connecticut's last remaining commercial fishing fleet. Completing the package is a charming side yard and another deck off the master bedroom. The owner’s took optimal advantage of the beautiful ocean views and choose an upside-down floor plan (living room, kitchen, and dining room are on the third floor). Every day the living room comes to a standstill when the sun, settling upon the water, fills it with magnificent colors. French doors lead to a fully outfitted deck where dining atop the ocean never fails to please.

This is a detached, three story 'townhouse' with a side yard. It is nestled between other smaller houses, on all but one side, and therefore has wonderful unobstructed views to the ocean. There are two flights of stairs, ten steps each. Keep in mind that they are 1800's 'style' i.e. the rise is a 1/4' steeper. Our experience is that the comfort level has more to do with stamina and physical condition than age. We have an 80 year old couple who love this house, but even a fifteen year old doesn't always like stairs.

What a wonderful time we had in Stonington

Our home away from home was the top two floors of a beautifully restored gracious town home. A beautiful staircase with sparkling planked floors leads you up to the two bedrooms and the next staircase to the living area.

The bedrooms were large and each had a fully equipped bathroom. They each had windows that opened -allowing in lots of wonderfully scented summer sea air. The master even had it's own deck. The top floor had a huge deck with great deck furniture and a view over the Stonington harbour and park. The kitchen was modern and very well equipped. The living room had comfy seats and lots of books and games for our enjoyment. The dining area had a wonderful formal colonial feel - perfect for sitting down to a meal at the end of the day.

And what days we had - strolling the quaint village, enjoying the park, having fun at the beach and attending a local fair. The village has several great restaurants, and we particularly enjoyed the "Skipper's Dock" where we spent an entire afternoon enjoying their fine food , drinks, ambience and good company.

We are looking forward to a return one day.

We had a family wedding close by and stayed for a week, Anna Bell was a great host! The home was beautiful and well appointed! It was close to everything, either within walking distance or a short drive! We would definitely stay there again!

Wonderful week, beautiful home!!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for 8 of us who were there for my daughter's graduation from the Coast Guard Academy and her wedding 3 days later. I have never used VRBO before, and I made a quick decision to rent this place although I was concerned about parking and the overall size to accommodate all of us comfortably. Well, the rooms were plenty big and the whole place felt quite spacious for the 8 of us. Because of all the activities we had, we did not spend much time in the beautiful kitchen but did have several people over for dinner one night and still had plenty of space. The top floor where the living space is has the beautiful view of the water and boats along with a nice sized balcony to enjoy. Our guests were quite impressed! And there was never a parking problem. There is one space allotted for the property, but we always found places on the street within a block to park. It just was not an issue at all!

Anna Bell was very helpful. She answered all my questions before we arrived. Yes, there is a washer and dryer, an iron and ironing board, plenty of towels! It just could not have turned out better!! Thank you, Anna Bell, for opening your home up to us!

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

This was my 1st time in Stonington. What a beautiful little area. The location of this place was perfect for us. Near the pier for fishing, near the wholesale lobster guy, as well as the honor system fish place. You HAVE to try the scallops, hands down the best I have ever had. A little bit of a walk for the beach' you may want to drive, but near the shops. Neighborhood is super safe with super friendly people.

The house it self was well appointed. We did not wish for anything that wasn't there. Kitchen is well stocked with good appliances. I cooked every day. Window over the kitchen sink looks out to the boat piers, making washing dishes much easier. Bedrooms where a good size with comfortable bedding and mattresses. There is a shed full of beach supplies. There are a/c's in each bedrooms and 2 in the main rooms. The only down side would be there stairs which I was aware of when booking. Yes, they are steep. The beautiful original floors are some what uneven on the main floor. Totally expected with the age of this home. For me was worth the effort to be able to stay in such a sweet location and be able to enjoy the charm of this borough and beautiful home.

The owner Anna Bell is a sweet heart. She will do whatever it takes to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I can't thank her enough for sharing her home with us.

Great location, really cool house!

  • 5 of 5

You can walk everywhere from this house, the beach, dog park, kid park, restaurants and NESS if your kids are in camp. The kitchen and den are on the top floor making for great views and sunsets. The owner of the house was really nice and extremely accommodating. Great vacation!

Wow!

We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful Stonington home during the 4th of July holiday. There were so many things to do & explore in the quaint town of Stonington and the neighboring towns of Mystic and Groton, but it was SO hard to leave the stunning views from the living room and deck behind! We were just as happy hanging out 'at home' feeling the breezes and watching the boats sail by as we were heading out to the ocean or the aquarium. This rental had more than enough room for the 9 of us (4 adults, 3 kids, 1 infant, and 1 chihuahua). There are two bedrooms that share a bathroom on the first floor. One bedroom opens up to a very cute garden. The next floor up has 2 more bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms. One of these bedrooms is the master suite, and you may fight over who gets this room if you stay here. This room opens up to its own private deck. The top floor has a gourmet kitchen, a big dining table, a place to hang out (watch tv, etc) and another bathroom. The entire top floor has amazing views of the water and all of the boats. This floor also has a private deck with a grill and nice seating area. We caught the sunset a few times when we had dinner out on the deck… so relaxing. The location of the house is perfect. We were less than a block away from local shopping, coffee, and restaurants. The town's little beach was a short walk and even shorter drive down the road (free parking). We even visited a local vineyard for a wine tasting (1 mile away). When the kids wanted to go to a bigger beach, the RI beaches were only about 20 minutes away (no highway driving required). Mystic seaport and aquarium were about 7 minutes away... and Groton was about 15 minutes away. If you like clean, beautiful, vintage homes with great views.. in cute little towns.. then this is the rental for you.

This is a true 'Borough' location. The Townhouse is within walking distance to 6 popular restaurants, as well as the beach, the lighthouse, and Stonington's wonderful shops (not just antiques anymore). In fact, our favorite restaurant (less than 2 blocks away) is one of the most popular in the county. With people traveling 45 minutes to dine there, our only complaint is the long wait for a table. If you haven't visited the Borough you're in for a treat. Nestled on a small peninsula, the village had a thriving fishing industry in the 1800's; hence it boasts many grand old homes. Now, an avid sailing community, and Connecticut’s last surviving fishing village, it has the perfect balance of both year rounders and summer vacationers. Everything one needs is within walking distance; fabulous restaurants, antique stores, and clothing boutiques. The new playground can be viewed from our deck!
