My husband and I stayed at Da Villa for a week. The property was beautiful and the house was very comfortable and met all our needs. I would highly recommend anyone travleing to Eleuthera stay at Da Villa.
I can't say enough good things about this place. This was our first trip to Eleuthera, and the house is very conveniently located for supply trips to Governor's Harbor but totally secluded. I think we saw 3 people on the beach the entire time we were there. It's also a short trip to Ten Bay if you want to visit a Caribbean beach. The view from the patio and the hammock in the yard is incredible, and because it is elevated, it catches a nice breeze almost constantly (meaning bugs weren't an issue). The house itself was nicely decorated and thoughtfully outfitted with beach towels, tons of patio seating and lounge chairs and a cabana on the beach. It had everything in the kitchen you could possibly need to prepare meals at home, which we did most nights - including grilling fresh fish that we bought from the guys on the docks in town. The caretaker, Mr. Nixon, was very helpful. Absolutely perfect and we highly recommend it.
You will wonder how the owner found such a great site. It is on a small bluff just above a beautiful and rarely visited beach. The slight elevation catches the breeze so that a) you can comfortably sit on the spacious patio; b) not be bothered by pests assuming there is a wind; and c) the a/c is not even needed (we almost always use the a/c but didn't turn it on once). From the patio, you take some wooden stair-steps and there's the beach. Being an Atlantic beach, the breeze makes everything comfortable but should you get hot, there's a covered shelter that's plenty cool.
The house is large and the spacious bedrooms are truly split and unless you are Emeril Lagasse the kitchen has everything you need. We enjoyed getting fresh bread from a bakery downtown and re-heating it. You can see the ocean from the living area but the patio is so nice you will want to be out there. It has several lounge chairs and a hammock and offers areas of both sun and shade. There is also a shower for rinsing before you go back in. Once inside, you can still hear the ocean.
The property's location is really great if you are not into the Harbour Island scene. Not only is it only a few minutes' drive from Governor's Harbour, there are also some great Caribbean beaches very close by should you decide you want quieter water for a change. Several fine restaurants are within a 10-20 minute drive.
We wouldn't speak glowingly of a place unless we really meant it. Since staying last month, we have already booked it for fall of this year!
This was our forth time on this wonderful island and this is the best house yet! The deck is fantastic!!! We had our meals there overlooking the beautiful ocean. The beach was fantastic - great waves for my boys and good snorkeling for everyone. Arthur the caretaker was wonderful. We had an issue with the Wifi when we first got there and my husband unfortunately needed it for some work commitments early in the week. Arthur got someone from the company out quickly and got it running again.
A big plus is this house was better "equipped" than others we have rented. There were basics (spices, salt, pepper, olive oil, coffee filters, etc). Typically our experiences have been that you have to buy all of those items new when you rent a house (very expensive on the island). Also - there were plenty of beach towels to accommodate us. I also loved that there were lounge chairs on the beach - a big plus for me.
I would recommend this to anyone and we hope we are fortunate enough to get back next year!! Thank you Jim for sharing your little piece of heaven.
My wife and I have three kids ages 11, 10, and 7. We have been to many places in Hawaii, California, the Caribbean and Florida for vacations and most of the time, we rent a house or a condo. We had a great little house that we had rented a few times in Palmetto Point, but this year the owners sold it, so we found 'da villa', near governors harbor. We booked it for 16 nights, as a reward for the kids performance in school.
The house literally makes you say "ohhhhhhh" when you see it for the first time. Its a huge house for the island, the air conditioners work fantastic (not the case in many places), the bedrooms are massive, the furniture is very comfortable and aesthetically pleasing. the kitchen has everything and I cooked every meal except birthday dinners. the patio is gigantic with enough shade from the trees to be comfortable all day long, the view is straight out to the reefs and crystal clear waters. there are enough lounge chairs for everybody, including down on the beach by the beach hut. We saw at least 20 stingrays while snorkeling directly behind the house. we also saw turtles, barracudas, the biggest parrot fish I have ever seen, countless other fish and even a couple of huge lobsters! each morning I would have my coffee on the patio and the same fat curly tailed lizard would do his pushups on the branch that rests between two coconut trees. even though it was july-august and very hot, the patio was always comfortable with the ocean breeze. We will definitely be making a return to da villa!
My wife and I travelled to Eleuthera to start our retirement. We stayed for 30 days starting on January 13, 2014. The house was perfect and very comfortable for the two of us. There are about 5 houses located on the 1/2 mile stretch of beach. We seldom saw anyone else on the beach. The beach is beautiful with white power sand. I snorkeled almost every day on the reefs in front of the house. We travelled to about 10 different beaches during our stay. I found the snorkeling in front of the house to be the best. The island seems very safe and reminded us of the 1950s in the US. Everyone was very friendly and we did not feel uncomfortable anywhere that we travelled on the island. We travelled the entire island from Lighthouse Beach to Harbor Island. I would not recommend the Harbor Island trip. It is a long way to drive and there was not much to see on the Island. The entire stay at Davilla and on Eleuthera exceeded our expectations.
