John and I met in the Hamptons in the summer of 1988; love at first sight; married in 1990. He lived in Queens, NY and I in Lawrenceville, NJ. Being an older couple for our first marriage and having a daughter late as well, we didn't know any better than to take our baby skiing with us. She was born in June of 1993 and has been on skis since her very first winter! John took her down the teaching slope at Gore Mt. Her eyes were like saucers and a huge smile was on her face. If there were a cartoon bubble over her it would have said: "of all the adults in the world I could get for parents, I get these two loonies"! Anyway, we skied every winter and fell in love with Plattekill Mt. and Roxbury.
Kathy and John Zummo purchased this house in 2006
Our daughter was in the 8th grade when we purchased our home. Being in town made perfect sense. She and her friends could go out for some pizza within walking distance and we knew they would be safe. That age definitely does not want to be stranded on a bunch of acres in the middle of nowhere! The sauna and jacuzzi in the house was/is her personal spa! We, too, could easily walk to the Public and not worry about her.
We love the layout of our home: the kitchen area is terrific, the upstairs sauna and jacuzzi are wonderful, the creek just beyond our porch is most relaxing. We still have mountain views although we are in town! We love the property with the copse of trees shading the hammock in the summer. The house is close to everything: skiing, golf, the happenings in Roxbury. We have it all!
We stayed at this home over a skiing weekend with a group of friends. We found the accommodations to be exactly what we were looking for, with plenty of bedrooms, and a beautifully decorated interior. We enjoyed the fire pit in front of the stream as well as outdoor deck and patio area. The kitchen was fully stocked and the bathroom had a sauna as well as a nice jacuzzi. The house was about 30 minutes from Windham (where we skied), and also close to Hunter and Plattekill. We would highly recommend the property to others and are thinking about coming back again next season!
Having just returned to UK - feeling a bit fuzzy round the edges - I must say how perfect we found the accommodations. It was an ideal location and a comfortable, welcoming house.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - being country girls, it suited us fine. We were attending a wedding nearby, and our accommodation was the envy of other guests. Roxbury is a very small town, but has 2 good eateries - Cassie's and The Public. Don't expect a wild night life.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this rental. It is one of the best equipped I have come across in many years of renting.
We were in town for a wedding at the Inn at West Settlement and rented this house with friends. Kathy is responsive and attentive as an owner, she has great customer service and is super accommodating. The property is very peaceful and beautiful and we had a nice weekend there. I only wish I was a skier so I could go back in the winter!
This house is great! We had a wedding at the Roxbury Barn and the location was perfect! Kathy is amazing and super responsive! She was very helpful and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed! Her house is perfect, very well organized.
This was a wonderful rental, the best we have stayed at worldwide! The setting was peaceful and beautiful. The cottage was warm and inviting. Every detail was perfect ! The kitchen was well stocked with all needed equipment , the cottage was very well maintained a place you looked forward to after the days activities. The owner provided excellent customer service and was a joy to work with. I cannot say enough good things about this location. I will recommend to all of my friends and hope to have the opportunity to stay here again. Liz Cleypool, Ann Arbor, MI
First of all, the owners, Kathy and John, were so kind and accommodating, making it the most pleasant experience I have ever had in planning a stay. The house is simply and beautifully decorated with so much charm. Lots of hangout spots; the living room with would burning stove and comfy couches, beautiful kitchen with so much counter space if cookings your thing, dinning area and jacuzzi and spa in bathroom, not to mention a deck.
Located 5 minutes from Ski Plattekill (ask about discout tickets), 15 minutes from Belleayre, 30 - 40 minutes from Hunter and Windham ski areas.
Walk to Shepard Hills Golf Club & we are very near Hannah Country Club as well.
