Costa Rica is full of tropical experiences from beach to mountain. On the Caribbean side of Costa Rica is a little village at the end of the road called Manzanillo, located in the Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife and Marine Refuge. It's a small traditional town, about 4 hours by car or bus from the capital, that offers prime fishing and ocean adventures as well as all jungle wildlife. This area is relatively undiscovered, uncrowded and therefore much more laid back as compared to the Pacific side. The culture is also distinctly different, being Afro-Caribbean.
Note: If the Coral Reef House is booked, check our web site for availability of the Dolphin Lodge right next door, which also sleeps 8. www.dolphinlodge.org

We spent one week at the Coral Reef house with a party of three adults and two young children. It was perfect for us. Dophi helped us across the river the first day, and from them on we were very comfortable. The rustic house was exactly the simplicity we were looking for. The kids loved playing in the tide pool right in front of the house. We enjoyed watching the monkeys and birds which are very close. We explored the jungle with the kids, and separate, for a more advanced hike. We walked to town easily and explore a wide range of beaches. Thank you for having us!
The Coral Reef House is a wonderful wooden house hidden in the jungle. It is perfectly located- with great beaches and wonderful wildlife. Manzanillo itself is a joy with Sodas for Breakfast, perfect mohitos at Maxis, 2 reasonable shops and safe swimming. The weather was pretty wild while we were there, we had huge storms, torrential rain & huge waves but everyone loved it.
We spent two weeks at the coral reef house over christamas and new years. Our party was two families (four adults two late teens and one two year old). The setting was absolutely perfect. We were close enough to town to get there if we wanted but far enough to be selcluded. We woke to howler monkeys almost every day. Dolphi (caretaker) was great and Paul House was very helpfull with questions and all. If you are looking for a resort style stay this isnt it, but if your looking for a great home in the jungle on the beach to rent and are adventurous and self sufficient this is perfect.
Manzanillo is the end of the road on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, near the Panama border. It is a small village, just large enough to have all the basic supplies, and rich in natural beauty. The Coral Reef House, and neighboring Dolphin Lodge, are just beyond the end of the road in the wildlife refuge, a 10-minute walk from the village.
