Making family memories
My mom (nearly 90), my two sisters and I had one of our best-ever vacations and the Summer Beach house was a huge part of it. The pictures do not do the house justice--it is beautiful and well maintained. Amelia Island offers many fun things to do from the Carriage House horse ride to the Cumberland boat tour and as one person told us when we asked for eating suggestions: "Every place is good." Our favorite was Luigi's for Italian, but everyplace we went was great. We also took the St. John's ferry several times--short and sweet and fun. Our pajama days where we just enjoyed the house and pool were among our best memories. We played games, did puzzles, and with three tv's, everyone could watch their favorite shows. We picked up some pretty shells on the beach, a short walk from the house (for my sisters) and a block drive for my mom to the handicap access. We even got up early to catch a sunrise (then took a morning nap--after all, we were on vacation :) ).
Great home for making memories. And we did!!
Pleasant and peaceful
Overall, we enjoyed staying in this house. It was comfortable, spacious, freshly decorated, had all the modern conveniences, and it was easy to access the beach. It had all the amenities we needed for traveling far from home with two kids (ages 3 and 5). We mostly ate out at the great restaurants in downtown Fernandina Beach (Bright Mornings Cafe, Timoti's, and Cafe Karibo were our faves-- thanks for the recommendations!). But the two times I did cook, I noticed the kitchen could've been better appointed. No sharp knives/no knife "set". Lots of mismatched pots and pans-- but none in the sizes I seemed to need. No spatula. Old warped cutting boards. It wasn't a chef's kitchen by any means but I could make do with what was there.
The house was clean and comfortable, beds had great sheets. Nice, beachy decor and what looked like new tile floors, but if you looked closely, you could see the parts that hadn't been updated yet, like the trim and cabinets in need of fresh paint. The master bath toilet didn't work when we arrived but they brought a plumber within a couple days to fix it.
We chose this house mainly because it had a pool. But the pool might as well have been refrigerated, it was soooo cold. It is not heated-- neither is the community pool across the driveway. So that was a disappointment because it was mid-March and a little too cool for bathing suits on the beach. If we came again, I'd definitely visit in mid-April or later, when it's hotter. Nevertheless, our kids enjoyed playing around the pool. We were a little surprised at how the lanai/pool area didn't seem to have been used for weeks or months. Cobwebs on the patio furniture. Rusty grill and firepit. Dusty, pollen-covered patio. Dead lizard and beetle laying on the cement.
The Summer Beach gated community is friendly and very peaceful. In mid-March, it felt like a ghost town. Many condos and houses were still closed up tight. Not a single soul visited the community pool in the week we were there. We were definitely early. It made the place very peaceful, especially at night. We slept great! The only sound during the day was the airplane traffic due to the local airport.
It would've been nice if the key cards for opening the gate and the community pool had been placed in a visible spot when we arrived. There was nothing mentioned about them in the instructions I received. I just happened to find them in a basket in the kitchen full of odds and ends.
We had a good, relaxing time. Thanks!
This is a lovely house All three rooms where comfortable
This house feels like you are in the Caribbean The colors are soothing. Place is neat as a pin
It was too cold to enjoy the pools The one at the house is lovely . There is a big pool right across the street It is a short walk to the beach It is a beautiful beach and great to walk on. The Kitchen in well stocked Plenty of room to work
Some of the pans may need to be replaced at some point.
The owner was very accommodating and gets back to you very quickly.
There is off street parking Very quiet street. Easy to get to Restaurants but you may just want to cook in and relax.
Great place to vacation with family and friends
The House is very nice and well equipped for vacation with family and/or friends - pool is great, too. Property is right next to the beach and close to many other attractions (golf, restaurants, parks, cruises, shopping).
Recommend going over New Years to join in the shrimp drop and fireworks celebration.
Great place for quiet and relaxing.
Best place available on the short notice that we had. Owner responded very quickly too questions prior to our arrival and any concerns after we arrived. There was no real concerns, just getting a better understanding of things. I would suggest in your instruction letter about front door/garage door codes that there is a key card to use at the community entrance gate. Saves having to call to the security guard each time you need to come back to the house. We did find that key card but after we had come and gone a couple of times.
Home is in a nice quiet location, short walk to the beach and short drive to grocery and restaurants. Would be a great place to bring kids with the private pool and the community pool, plus the beach. Home has lots of pool and beach toys. We look forward to renting the home again next year but for a bit longer time. Thanks again.
We loved it! Private pool and close to beach great, especially for 4 yr old grandson!!
Two problems we found was noise at night and glass top in living area not attached to base. Not good for small children that lean on. As to noises at night, we saw several opossums in evening, maybe that was it. Scratching noises on roof. Definitely not wind. Tree branches do overhang roof. We would definitely come back!!!
We love it when we have happy repeat guests.
We have contacted the pest control, to see if they can locate the outside item.
Summer Beach Village is located half a mile down from the Ritz Carlton. It is a lovely private beachfront community. Gated.
