The cottage has been renovated, with new flooring and paint inside, with new siding, storm windows and a deck outside. The cottage is on Heart Lake, one of Michigan's deepest lakes, it's an all sports lake that's well stocked with fish, ideal for swimming and water skiing. There is a 7:30 pm no wake curfew, making the evenings quiet and perfect for fishing or a slow cruise around this quite little lake. In the winter Gaylord is known for down hill and X country skiing and snowmobiling. In front of the cottage is one of the major Michigan snowmobile trails that's groomed (never enough) 3 to 4 times a day. Inside there's a washer and dryer, dishwasher and everything you'd expect. Upstairs sleeps 4 and the master bedroom sleeps 2. The small town of Waters is 1 mile south, you'll find the Keg Bar and the Hill Top Restaurant both are nice. Gaylord, with Kohl's Walmart and Starbucks is 5 miles north. You won't be disappointed
Snowmobiling: All major brands of snowmobiles are represented with franchises in Gaylord. Parts service and rentals are all available within 6 miles of the cottage. A major loop of the Michigan snowmobile trail system is 100 feet away from the front door.
Down Hill Skiing: Boyne mountain, Boyne Highlands, Tree Tops, Schuss, Shanty Creek, and the Otsego Club are all within a short to reasonable drive.
Cross Country Skiing: Forbush, Pine Barrin, Aspen Park and the Pigeon River are all within a stones throw of the cottage. Maps and rental equipment is available.
Hi, thank you for taking a look at the cottage on Heart Lake. My family moved to Gaylord in the early 60's, where we own and operate a new car dealership. Customer service has been a way of life for me and that influences how I take care of the property and my guests.
Thomas H Wagar purchased this cottage in 1987
Easy to find, central to all of Northern Michigan, well maintained, beautiful setting winter, summer or fall and competitively priced.
Our Family had a wonderful time staying at this location, the home is very clean and everything you need to enjoy your stay. Tom was a great host and very accommodating. I would recommend this place for anyone staying near Gaylord Mi. Tom, thanks so much for letting us staying in your wonderful home, Jim, Chris, Matt, Tyler and our two dogs Dragster and Twister!
We just had a family vacation on Heart Lake. The house was very clean and taken care of. I loved that the shower was a full bath and there's a half bath upstairs. Tom was very nice and checked on us a couple of times. The lake is super clean, good for swimming. All in all a pleasant experience.
My sister, niece and I rented this cottage as a treat for the (3) kids...and what a treat it was! For us, too! This place felt like your very own home right from the get-go. We lived in the water, I swear, it was so beautiful--not to mention the paddle boat, kayak, rowboat and private raft--they were so awesome! We are hoping to make this a yearly vacation destination. As a side note, my son is autistic, and this place worked very well for his first time away from home because it was so quiet, private and home-like. Thank you for the best vacation ever!! We'll definitely be back!
We stayed at this cottage for 7 days--had the entire family up during the week and it accomodated us nicely. With the fishing boat, paddle boat, and kayak, we had plenty to do! The deck and beach area was especially nice for sitting and reading. We would stay at this cottage again and recommend it to anyone looking for a nice, relaxing vacation. Thank you, Tom!
We just stayed at this property for 7 days. It was everything in the description and more! The cottage was impeccably clean and very comfortable. All you need to bring is toiletries ... everything else is provided, just as the description states. There's even a washer & dryer! The view of the lake from the front deck is awesome as well as at the foot of the lake. There was a paddle & row boat for our use as well as a nice dock (I brought my jet boat). The lake water was crystal clear and warm. Evenings were spent around the campfire ring at the lake's edge, listening to the resident lake Loons. We met the owner, Tom, upon our arrival and he checked a couple of times during the week to see if everything was okay. A very genuine, nice and accommodating host. In the city of Gaylord are all the big box shops as well as quaint specialty shops and of course, tons of shopping. There are endless recreational activities in the surrounding area, within a very close proximity to this cottage. We found things to do for all ages. The restaurants are close, and provide a wide variety at reasonable pricing. There are also full service grocery stores for all your food needs. There is an IGA grocery store with gas pumps one mile from the property too. We're already planning our next stay. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone! No disappointments here.
We rented this house over Christmas and it was perfect!
Driveway was big enough for van, truck, snowmobile trailer. We were able to bring our two dogs and it worked our great. Snowmobile trail is right accross the street, very convenient. Sledding hill close by also.
We will definately rent this house in the future.
Gaylord is in the heart of upper lower Michigan. The Big Mac Bridge, and Mackinaw Island huge Tourist destinations are located only 50 miles away, and easily reached from our location. Sometimes called the Golf Mecca...Gaylord is surrounded by over 30 golf courses. The world renown Ausable River begins only 2 miles away, and great canoeing is 20 minutes down the road. Elk and wildlife viewing is easy, either at Gaylords Elk Park, or you can try your luck in The Pigeon River State Forest.
