Casa Miramar is a very private, comfortable Costa Rican getaway located a cool 800 feet above the Pacific Ocean, directly above the Whale's Tail in the Marino Ballena National Park and the thriving town of Uvita. This spacious home sleeps five comfortably in two bedrooms (one with a king bed, the other with a queen and a single). The property also offers a secluded casita that has one bedroom with a full bed, one bathroom with an outdoor solar shower, a small but well-equipped kitchen, and large veranda with an incredible view. Just a brief walk between the two, both the casa and the casita provide wonderful privacy.
Other than the brief bi-weekly visit of our pool service company and once-a-week cleaning if you're here for an extended period, you have utter peace to lull away the days in your veranda hammock enjoying the stunning ocean and mountain/valley views, or dip in the inviting pool in sublime privacy. The Bali shade hut is excellent for reading, napping, or gazing at the hypnotic scenery.
Casa Miramar is a birdwatcher's paradise and you'll be amazed as large birds catch the draft spirals and soar overhead. Resident hawks, falcons, and toucans perch in nearby trees and you may see a Morpho butterfly skip along the garden flowers. Mornings are filled with birdsong as you enjoy your first cup of coffee and those same birds will serenade you during spectacular sunsets. Though Casa Miramar is not on a 'monkey highway', you will hear howlers and occasionally see the white faced monkeys in the area. It's not unusual to encounter other small animals in the neighborhood.
For those needing technology, Casa Miramar is equipped with wifi and a pay-as-you-go mobile phone. There is a flat-screen television hooked to the house's library of movies, television series, and music for rare moments spent inside.
Casa Miramar is a perfect headquarters for jumping to the Osa Peninsula by sea or by road, and for exploring points north or inland. For those desiring activity and adventure, choose from a wide variety of sports and sightseeing tours available nearby and in the surrounding area.
Located along the paved Costanera Highway, Uvita is 20km south of the colorful surfer town of Dominical and 16km north of restaurant-filled Ojochal. Uvita has both a rustic feel and all the necessary modern conveniences. You'll find a good variety at the two main grocery stores, a gas station, banks, a medical and dental clinic, a weekly farmers market, and plenty of wifi. There is a wide variety of restaurants in the Costa Ballena area, ranging from fabulous gourmet to delicious roadside ceviche. Locals and expats mingle comfortably in a friendly atmosphere that also features tour guide services, unspoiled beaches, and much more.
Casa Miramar's unbeatable views and privacy come thanks to its mountainside setting so it should be noted that like many places in Costa Rica, a 4x4 vehicle is required to navigate an unpaved road that can be steep and twisty at times.
This is a lovely alternative to resorts and hotels in a beautiful part of Costa Rica. The house, pool and grounds are all excellent and well-maintained. The bedrooms are in separate parts of the house so are very private if two couples want to share. The road up is a 4X4 challenge...steep and unpaved...but arriving back at Casa Miramar makes it all worth it! We enjoyed every minute.
If you're looking for tourist destination with lots of amenities, this is not the spot. If you're looking for lovely empty beaches, local flavor and wonderful nature and wildlife, you can't do better than this area of Costa Rica. The newly paved road along the coast will increasingly bring development....come now!
My parents, two children and I stayed for 6 nights at this magical place and had a wonderful time. The house was extremely well-equipped and beautifully decorated too. The layout was great for outside mealtimes and gathering around the pool and sunset. The view from the house and the casita was great too. We loved just watching the hummingbirds and wildlife around us, including toucans!
As my children are young they slept in the twin room and I slept closeby on the sofa bed in the living room and my parents in the air conditioned en suite. We did not use the casita apart from to sit on the terrace.
We did not really feel like leaving the whole time we were there because it was so relaxing and beautiful and also the drive up/down is not easy. 4 WD definitely necessary and plan ahead for food/drinks in Uvita which is close by just it is a bit of a bumpy road!
Thoroughly recommend it and hope to be back one day!
My family and I fell in love with Casa Miramar, located just 10 minutes away from the Uvita shops along the Costanera highway, but a world away in terms of wildlife, peace and tranquility. The road to the house is part of the adventure. It lives up to its press, although it is completely manageable if you drive during daylight and you can find the low gear range of your 4x4. The property was spotlessly clean on our arrival (not even a leaf in the pool!). It is well maintained and well equipped, with working wifi, the kitchen necessities, a good video library stored on a harddrive, and even charcoal for the grill. Other reviews have touched on the views (spectacular) and the pool (refreshing). The natural life is also outstanding. When my wife and I took a birdwatching tour with Ronnie at Oro Verde (recommended), we found we had already seen a good number of the birds from the Miramar gardens. Another superb excursion in the area is the four hour hike to Santa Lucia falls. While the house is generously provided with shady verandahs and overhead fans, the master BR airconditioner made all the difference for sleep quality. One result was that our two children fled their own room and slept with us for two of three nights.
I recently stayed at Casa Miramar and it was quite magical. The panoramic vistas from this property are spectacular and there is a peacefulness that you feel when you arrive to this secluded oasis. The property looks out onto Marino Ballena National Park with a great view of the "Whales Tail"."
You definitely need 4wd to get up the road easily manageable and worth the ride. The grounds are lush, tropical and equipped with a relaxing outdoor Palapa, a swimming pool, a great bbq and an outdoor shower. Casa Miramar also has a 1 bedroom casita on the property that is equipped with a huge outdoor terrace that served me well for sunrise yoga (Tucan's and and sunset libations. The casita also has it's own bath, kitchen and shower which is great.
The main house is very well appointed with a spacious layout and a great well equipped kitchen. When we did venture out for dinner I would recommend Sabor for authentic Paella, Citrus which was eclectic French it's worth a sunset cocktail at Azul's infinity pool .
There is a great beach just down the road from Casa Miramar called Playa Hermosa...if you can pry yourself away from the tranquility of the villa.
Our family, including 2 small children, greatly enjoyed our stay at Casa Miramar. The house was exceptional with modern amenities, terrific views and outdoor living spaces. We had a great time relaxing in the pool and cooking in the built-in barbeque which had an amazing panoramic view of the ocean including Marino Ballena national reserve and several islands. Although the road up requires a strong 4X4 vehicle we had no problem going up and down even in moderate rain. The proximity to the green waterfall, cascada verde, and great beaches like Las Ventanas and Playa Hermosa were perfect, although the national reserve has an entrance fee of USD$6 per person each day which includes bathrooms and running fresh water. We loved all of the wildlife the house and surrounding area had to offer, from the leafcutter ants to howler monkeys and all of the great birds, butterflies and geckos. To get an up close look at great parrots, monkeys, sloths and anteaters…you should definitely visit Villas Alturas Animal Sanctuary, about a 5 minute drive north from Uvita. I recommend Casa Miramar to anyone looking for a comfortable jungle/beach experience with modern conveniences and immaculate and private grounds with breathtaking views.
The town of Uvita is located along 'Costa Ballena', on the Pacific Coast south of Quepos and north of Golfito. Playa Uvita is the home of Costa Rica's only marine sanctuary, Ballena Marine National Park. The park is named for the whales that are often sighted close to shore. From Casa Miramar you can see the spit of land that's formed at low tide and composes the perfect outline of a whale's tail. Convenient to Uvita you can easily get to canopy tours, miles of beautiful beaches, river rafting, waterfalls, rain forest, horseback riding along the ocean and so much more - or, just enjoy the awesome ocean/river/mountain view from right where you are - Casa Miramar. Especially notable is the great surfing just minutes away. Also available are nearby language schools for those wanting a bit more from their cultural experience.
