About Heather Gillen

The Gillen Pond is a dream come true for our grandparents, the late George and Mary Gillen.

In 1980, this house was built by many members of the Gillen family along with their friends. This house was originally built for their retirement years with the hopes that it would one day become a gathering place for future Gillen generations.

Family was of utmost importance to George and Mary. The Gillen grandchildren now want to share their experiences with you and enable you to build a lifetime of memories with your family.

Why Heather Gillen chose New York

Our property consists of 1500 sq. feet of lower level living space and our man made 3.5 acre pond. We have many trails around our property that lead into the beautiful woods surrounding us. This home is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful sounds of nature. Our pond is perfect for swimming in the summer and even ice fishing in the winter.

What makes this house unique

Our property is located in a private and peaceful spot, perfect for family gatherings, or a weekend away. A truly relaxing getaway, our pond is man-made and has grown into a wonderful watering hole, filled with hours of fun for all ages.

We are surrounded by quiet and you can truly connect with nature. The paths around the house are safe and easy to follow.

The house has large rooms and can hold many people and is pet friendly. The fire place holds to the rustic nature of the house and is wonderful to gather around in the winter.

Enjoy your stay, and be sure to leave us a note in our guest journal sharing your experiences at our home.

The property was beautiful & was exactly what we were looking for. We rented it for our wedding weekend and our Bridal party also loved the house. Lots of room and a lot of space to hang out with a group of people.

Rustic and comfy

  • 4 of 5

Great place to spread out. Everyone found something to do on around or in the pond. The beds were comfy. The house was rustic but you are here for the view. It rained both nights as we lit the campfire so sitting out by the fire into the night will have to be something we do next time.

Lovely, quiet spot to relax

  • 4 of 5

The house is rustic, quirky, and eclectic in style, as it was built by the original owners. It was private and quiet. Nicely equipped with full kitchen, washer and dryer, picnic table. No A/C but it was fairly cool at night, with a breeze off the water. The pond is really pretty in moonlight. Great location in the Berkshires!

Peaceful and Beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

My son and I (and two dogs) just got back from our stay at this great property. We couldn't have had a better time. It was a perfect setting for us: very private and peaceful. We were able to bring our two dogs out the back door to run in the yard and retrieve sticks from the pond. We enjoyed watching the blue herons, sitting at the picnic table or on the dock to soak in the scenery, walking along the pond's edge in the pretty forest, building a fire in the pit and making s'mores, playing ping pong, watching movies, reading in front of the wood stove...I haven't felt this relaxed in a long time. Other than food for our meals, the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, including spring water (the tap water comes from a well and has a distinct sulfur odor!). The furniture is rustic as you'd expect for a woodsy cabin--but the beds were perfectly comfortable, and there were lots of comfy sofas and chairs for hanging out on. The only upgrade I'd have been happier with is in the bathrooms--particularly the tub and shower are not real inviting. Other than that, this was an awesome place to stay, with a lovely view over the pond--a truly tranquil and rejuvenating place. We will definitely be back!

Nice Place for a Getaway

  • 4 of 5

I was looking for someplace relatively local to Albany to celebrate my 30th birthday with family (in from California and Buffalo) and some friends. this was close and was perfect for what we wanted. The space was really cool, areas to play lawn games and set up an ez-up. Everyone found something to do, walking around the property, hanging out, or riding in the boats! Fishing was a huge hit because the sunfish were biting like wild. Originally I had been looking for a place to just have a lake day, swimming and floating, but the weather wasn't excellent, so this was even more perfect because of all the activities.

The inside could have used a deep clean, but standard cabin in the woods. We actually brought our own propane grill becuase some of the other reviews said it was a small charcoal grill. Also agree with the previous review on getting the deposit back, took awhile (I believe they were on vacation).

Overall, this place worked out awesome. I will always remember the great time we had there including asking all my bridesmaids to be in my wedding there! Thanks for the great memories!

Spacious getaway

  • 4 of 5

Plenty of space for a family getaway! Beautiful views! Our family of five and three dogs were welcomed without hesitation. To me that is truly dog friendly. The area is private and relaxing. I did expect more trails on the many acres, but there is only one around the pond the rest very wooded. Although the walk was short, it was still pretty. The grounds are well kept, although we were welcomed with plenty of goose feces. The inside is quant and spacious. The town is not too far away around 15 minutes, with local shops and your typical dollar store. The main attraction is the home and what it offers....a beautiful, relaxing time away from it all.

Herb went beyond his duties and let my parents use his personal tools upon arrival to fix their car. On the other end of things, we were promised drinking water and all that was left was a half gallon. There were expired food and condiments that we cleaned out and the grill was charcoal. It was a complete hassle to get the refundable damage deposit back. Received well beyond the terms of contract. Although, with the few hiccups I would recommend this place as we did enjoy ourselves.
