Contact the Property Manager for more details.
The Gillen Pond is a dream come true for our grandparents, the late George and Mary Gillen.
In 1980, this house was built by many members of the Gillen family along with their friends. This house was originally built for their retirement years with the hopes that it would one day become a gathering place for future Gillen generations.
Family was of utmost importance to George and Mary. The Gillen grandchildren now want to share their experiences with you and enable you to build a lifetime of memories with your family.
Our property consists of 1500 sq. feet of lower level living space and our man made 3.5 acre pond. We have many trails around our property that lead into the beautiful woods surrounding us. This home is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beautiful sounds of nature. Our pond is perfect for swimming in the summer and even ice fishing in the winter.
Our property is located in a private and peaceful spot, perfect for family gatherings, or a weekend away. A truly relaxing getaway, our pond is man-made and has grown into a wonderful watering hole, filled with hours of fun for all ages.
We are surrounded by quiet and you can truly connect with nature. The paths around the house are safe and easy to follow.
The house has large rooms and can hold many people and is pet friendly. The fire place holds to the rustic nature of the house and is wonderful to gather around in the winter.
Enjoy your stay, and be sure to leave us a note in our guest journal sharing your experiences at our home.
I was looking for someplace relatively local to Albany to celebrate my 30th birthday with family (in from California and Buffalo) and some friends. this was close and was perfect for what we wanted. The space was really cool, areas to play lawn games and set up an ez-up. Everyone found something to do, walking around the property, hanging out, or riding in the boats! Fishing was a huge hit because the sunfish were biting like wild. Originally I had been looking for a place to just have a lake day, swimming and floating, but the weather wasn't excellent, so this was even more perfect because of all the activities.
The inside could have used a deep clean, but standard cabin in the woods. We actually brought our own propane grill becuase some of the other reviews said it was a small charcoal grill. Also agree with the previous review on getting the deposit back, took awhile (I believe they were on vacation).
Overall, this place worked out awesome. I will always remember the great time we had there including asking all my bridesmaids to be in my wedding there! Thanks for the great memories!
Plenty of space for a family getaway! Beautiful views! Our family of five and three dogs were welcomed without hesitation. To me that is truly dog friendly. The area is private and relaxing. I did expect more trails on the many acres, but there is only one around the pond the rest very wooded. Although the walk was short, it was still pretty. The grounds are well kept, although we were welcomed with plenty of goose feces. The inside is quant and spacious. The town is not too far away around 15 minutes, with local shops and your typical dollar store. The main attraction is the home and what it offers....a beautiful, relaxing time away from it all.
Herb went beyond his duties and let my parents use his personal tools upon arrival to fix their car. On the other end of things, we were promised drinking water and all that was left was a half gallon. There were expired food and condiments that we cleaned out and the grill was charcoal. It was a complete hassle to get the refundable damage deposit back. Received well beyond the terms of contract. Although, with the few hiccups I would recommend this place as we did enjoy ourselves.
Gillen Pond and the lake house were wonderful for everyone from the 2 year old to the 81 year old! The foliage and pond were beautiful. We walked the trails and in the woods, used the canoe, had great bonfires and s’mores, and played Scrabble and cards on the one rainy day. The house had everything we needed to feel like we were at home. Heather was great to work with and details were handled easily. We want to come back next Spring!
The owners are extremely nice and wonderful to deal with. The neighborhood is very rural and I felt safe. It was very private. You have your own lake and the kids loved fishing and just relaxing. There is no Cable, however the high speed internet works very well and saved the sanity of a "city girl" like me. There is a T.V. and DVD player, so you can bring your own movies. The beds were comfortable and it has a full, updated kitchen. We were able to cook most of our meals, so it was very convenient, inexpensive and relaxing. The town nearby had a VERY impressive town fair. It reminded me of our State fair in NC. It is very rustic and you have to get used to well water, but it was like camping with a nice cabin. There was an extra room with a ping pong table. The family enjoyed fishing, playing ping pong, relaxing and going to the fair. A fun and relaxing time was had by all.
It's been our 3rd visit here and each time the place gets a little better. The lake and boat are a nice amenity. Our kids (ages 10 - 16 over the years) enjoy the lake for boating, fishing, swimming, exploring,... We'll be back.
Typically we fill our vacation time with lots of activities and end up coming home needing a vacation. This year when searching for beach houses along the coast line I stumbled across this gem. The pictures are accurate and the house is clean and well maintained. Heather was easy to work with and check-in was simple. We spent the week relaxing and enjoying swimming, fishing and canoeing in the lake. No cable TV and spotty at best cell service forces you to disconnect and enjoy the relaxation and quiet that this escape provides. Our band of travelers consisted of elementary school age children, college students and adults. Everyone had a great time and are looking forward to a return trip.
Just a short drive from the historic town of Chatham. Take a walk around town, enjoy the shops, take in a movie or have a gourmet meal at one of the cafes.
We are located on 35 private, wooded acres surrounding a 3 acre man made pond. Ideal for fishing, canoeing & kayaking.
Enjoy live music at Hudson Opera House, or perhaps classical music at The Spencertown Academy. Maybe take in a play at The Ghent Playhouse or take a day trip to Tanglewood for a picnic.
FREE access to Colombia Land Conservancy, offering cross country skiing, hiking & fishing. Located at the end of Old Gale Hill Road.
In the winter months, check out Jiminy Peak, Bousquet & Butternut, all located about a half hour drive from Gillen Pond.
